When explaining 'to pop in' I have noticed that the English subs show 'popping' at some point. Thanks for the reminder of the great British expressions!
I couldn't speak English very well when I lived in Cardiff, so Welsh people didn't say "Cheers" to me quite often. I guess they kindly tried to use a simple word, "Thank you." I heard many "Sorry" and "Thank you." in the UK. They helped me a lot. I was so impressed Brits. A lovely country and people.
Wow! I really love London! I went in 2017 and I felt in love 😍 It's such a lovely city that I came back again in 2018. 😍 🥰 And I love and enjoy this video! Cheers Tom! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
I'm a Japanese person living in America, and I say "sorry" all the time too, and get criticized for it sometimes. Americans take it literally, but a lot of times we just mean to be polite. I'm glad to learn British people are the same way! I should use more "excuse me" in place for "sorry" here in America, come to think of it. Thanks for the LOVELY video!
Yes, I really enjoyed your lessons. They are so useful for learning everyday English. Even here was former British colony, and we went thru years of education that was mainly taught in English, I didn't learn what you taught here. BTW Tom, could u produce a lesson on how British greet each other in formal or informal meetings? Again most grateful for your valuable sharing!
Great video Tom! Really enjoyed it and lots of useful English phrases there and loved the shots of the British museum! Lovely! :) We look forward to working with you :)
Smashing video! I think both of your channels are fabulous, ace and cracking. I've been learning British English for a couple of weeks. Cheers. Thumbs up from Taiwan.😊
Great work Tom, would love to come to London someday to watch Arsenal play. I like your videos a lot. They are nice and helpful. I like the way you speak
This is a lovely idea watching you walking around in London while learning British phrases. Bravo! Looking forward to seeing this series. Keep "walking" and keep going. Cheers mate.
I like your lessons tom.thank you very much.how can you walk , tell sth and take a video at the same tme? I appreciate that.you are a amazing teacher.can't wait for your new lesson.
One of the most amazing video on YT: fun, well-filmed and really instructive! I happened to watch "Love Actually" last week and soon thought it was an ordinary sickly sweet Christmas film. Two days later I checked YT notifications and found out you had filmed a video about it! Now while watching this one I hear you talking about it again... and it's suddenly one of my favourite films of all time! Happy new year teacher! Greetings from an italian follower. It's a pleasure to learn and improve English with you. Thank you x
Tom,show us more of London!Tell us about places, buildings, historical figures, museums...Lets pretend we are visiting you, where would you take us?this would be an amazing and super useful lesson! Cheers, mate!
Thank you Tom! I really did enjoy it. Could you explain how different up for something and down for something are? Or are they completely interchangeable?
Great question Sunnie. 'I'm up for something' strikes me as being from British English whereas 'I'm down for something' originates in American English. In British English we invite people to do activities with 'Are you up for (going to the cinema)'. You may hear people say 'Are you down for (going to the cinema)' but it would be more informal and probably not used as much in general.
As an American I’ve used “are you up for ...” to invite someone to go somewhere. “Are you down to ...” is used in the same way but I think is more common with younger generations.
You have a excelent teacher and i like watching your videos every day, thanks ever so much for teaching me these amazing British idiom... You deserve more subscribers
It was really nice to see London and learn English words at the same time. The British people are very polite. As a French,to go to the toilet (aller aux toilettes)is the most polite form you can hear in France. Your videos are very helpful, and I like the way you make them. Greetings from France.
Please, never stop. I don't know how it is possible btw but I used to (and now I tend to as well) apologise so much for absolutely nothing but I'm not British what the heck ;_;
Don't worry,Julia, you're not the only one ! I and my son used to apologise over everything we thought it would hurt one another ... Now ,we are living in a different world . People hurt each other ,on a daily basis ,on the bus , everywhere , and have the slightest intention to apologise . Let's stick to what we've got ,shall we !?! Our Sterling English ,and humane approach !
Hey Minh, thanks so much for your message, I'm pleased you found it useful. If there are any other video lessons you would like me to make please let me know.
Thank you, Eat Sleep Dream English. I'm going to take the IELTS exam next month. Therefore, I would like you to show some idioms, linking words and collocations usually spoken by the native speakers. I think they can help me make the conversation with the examineur more natural and fluent. If you have free time, please make a video about them. I subscribe and wait for you.
I enjoyed this tour so much and the best of all I learned some new phrases, thank you Tom you’re an amazing teacher! Do more of these videos please, I love knowing other places.
Here is a very nice lesson. Thank you. If you have time it could be nice to explain the difference between "to like" and to "to love". Are they interchangeable ?
To know a language is to know the culture of the country where that language is spoken. It was nice to show scenes of London meanwhile you teach the lesson.
Great video!! It really gives us a strong sense of immersion by taking us to those cool places in London while you're teaching us British English expressions. What a cool idea!! Definitely look forward to more video lessons like this. Interestingly, now I remember that I used to have a British professor who always ended his emails with "Cheers", and I mistakenly thought it meant “See you” or something like that. ;-)
I love the talk and the walk!! But please be careful and keep an eye on the road, especially when you are walking across the road:) thanks for the lovely lesson!
