      Can you give an extra lesson on tenses...? So that we don't mix it with past or present. Your lessons are really very good and helping and understandable too.

      You can say I have been to japan so many times. But you can't say last year, yesterday, 2 months ago, 3 days ago, 5 hours ago, etc. You can't say, last year, I have been to Japan. Instead, you say, Last year I went to Japan. and that is the fact whether you accept it or not. Love you, son.

      Your video is so amazing and very useful for English learners. To infinitive is confusing for none native learners but easy to understand. He is going to meet him.
      I want to take you there for work.
      I want to go there to console him. etc.whereas, for, use. like, the Mouse is for clicking the keyboard buttons. The knife is for peeling the vegetables.
      He was arrested by the police yesterday evening for stealing money from a bank. Thanks for giving me a warm hug. Thanks for helping me always. etc. Physiotherapist Shabbir Ahmed from Pakistan.

I just have discovered your RUclips Channel and I’m very happy. Your videos are so interesting and enjoyable that I could watch them all day. Hello! Thanks for your videos, they all are really interesting! The example you used "being married with/to"..well I'm Italian and in Italian we say "being married with" and it is very hard to speak English THINKING in English rather than translating what would you say in Italian! Hi Tom, thank you for the video and I found this very useful. I'm learning English to improve my English test score for migration. I have been learning English since I was 4 years old. I used to make mistakes when applying the present perfect tense and the past simple tense into English writing or speaking. The golden rule to remember is that you use past simple to talk about things that are finished in the past. Present perfect tense is used when you are talking about things that have been happening from past to present. :)

    I have been relearning english since last january!
    17 years ago, I used to have the english class in hight school. Afterwards, I was struggling all the time to improve my english level without any serious results.. so I just gave up !
    Nowdays I realize I have made a big mistake, this is why I'm watching a lot of coaching videos to help me better understand the english rules (grammatical structures, pronunciation techniques, verb tenses...).
    By the way, I'm still confused by which preposition can be used and also by past simple/present perfect !!

    Another mistake I've found to be common, at least from Filipinos (I don't know about the rest of the world) is something like:
    One of my favorite Filipino dish is chicken adobo.
    They pick up on "one" being singular, so they use a singular subject, instead of "one of" meaning part of a group of things, so that group of things would be plural.

      Great observation Armygirlsdad

    • @jonadabtheunsightly
      @jonadabtheunsightly 6 лет назад

      Technically, "one" is the subject, which is why the verb is singular ("is", not "are"). The prepositional phrase ("of ... dishes") is adjectival, modifying the subject. But yeah, "dishes" should be plural.

    Tom, the most common mistake that I make is related to the use of prepositions "in", "on" and "at". I am alway confusing about what's the correct form, in sentences like: "I saw this product in/on/at the website"; I bought this new shirt in/at/on that shop.

  • @UNOwen-ll3gw
    @UNOwen-ll3gw 7 лет назад

    I'd also have said "I love listening to music". However, I heard a native speaker say "I love to travel". I also remember the songs "I love to love (but my baby just loves to dance)" from Tina Charles or "I love to hate you" from Erasure. So my question is: after "love" (or "like"), is it preferable to use to+verb or verb+ing?

    These are all grammar issues that can be overcome in time. Correct use of the articles may be something that takes much more time and effort to master. From my perspective, the most difficult thing about English, which seems to be pretty simple at first, is the large synonymity (the subtle differences between several words meaning pretty much the same thing) and the collocations and phrases one has to learn by heart and sometimes use in the only correct way possible. Sometimes one still remains nonplussed because proverbs like 'dressed up to the nines' or 'raining cats and dogs' are impossible to understand (fathom) at first. This is a nice channel, good luck!

    Well Tom, if there's one thing I totally agree with you is that the main error for non-native English speakers is not to include the "s" on the third-person singular when conjugating verbs. I've been teaching English in Uruguay and Brazil for many years now, and always tell my students that once they get over with this mistake, they're halfway through to fluency. Cheers!

    Speaking about since. I' ve come across this sentence in " The Handmaid's Tale" by Atwood," Since the beginning of war gas is expensive and in short supply". How can this be explained? I know that present simple can be used when speaking about people's feelings as in " He mopes terribly since his wife left". But why gas?

    Woww... I made a mistake with the verb "to marry". I thought it was "marry with" cause I was influenced by Portuguese. Correct so it's to say that "sb is married TO sb".
    Thanks, cheers, Tom!

      Hi Yesnik Silva, the correct sentence would be 'People got to the gym to lose weight'. It's the infinitive or purpose! : )

      Elif, I don't really understand your question. Could you give me an example of it in a sentence?

    • @BreakBubbles
      @BreakBubbles 6 лет назад

      Hi Elif. For the sentence, "I'm watching your videos for listening modern British accent", the correct way to say it would be to say, "I'm watching your videos *to listen to* your modern British accent." I hope that helps. If you have another question, feel free to ask.

    What is the peculiarity about those verbs which we cannot use "to", but only the ending "ing", instead of that preposition (we cannot say "we love to watch spooky movies"?? The correct would be "we love watching ..."?? Is that so?
