    Bros, this is the great break-up album and you must understand the dynamics of the personal relationships of the band members to grasp how awesome this record really is. Each song is a dagger or a plea or confession to someone else in the band, written by Lindsey, or Stevie (who were a couple) or Christine (who was married to the bass player but in love with guitar player). Hello! The male voice is Lindsey Buckingham.

  • @kbrewski1
    @kbrewski1 Год назад +6

    One of the biggest selling albums of the rock era. This and Hotel California by the Eagles pretty much dominated 1977 on the radio (Aja too). Every song great and most were hits.
    IT IS A GUY SINGING LEAD!! Lindsay Buckingham is the lead vocalist on this and he's the band's lead guitarist>>A GREAT LEAD GUITARIST. He tended to write the hardest rocking songs. The 2 gals, his then girlfriend Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie, the keyboardist (wife of bass player John McVie) were also lead and backup singers, generally did the softer tunes. The oddity of this album is the 2 couples (Buckingham/Nicks and the McVies) BOTH WERE SPLITTING UP WHILE RECORDING RUMOURS!!
    So almost all the songs are ABOUT THEIR LOVE LIFE SPLITTING UP!!
    The easiest way to tell the difference in the voices of the 3 is this (other than reading the album credits):
    Lindsay has a somewhat high male voice, but he sings rockers and tends to shout the uptempo songs with kind of an urgency.
    Stevie has a smoky seductive type voice, she does have a low register for a female, but "smoky" is the best term and her songs are witchy, gypsy like, a bit mysterious.
    Christine McVie is also blonde (further confusing things), she's British (Buckingham/Nicks are Americans, McVies and Drummer Mick Fleetwood are British). Her songs are usually the softest and poppiest of the 3 singers.
    All 3 were great songwriters and lead vocalists but Lindsay Buckingham brought the energy to the band, he's intense and an incredible guitarist. I saw FM once, but saw Buckingham solo twice in small venues just to watch his guitar playing.
    I guess it doesn't help matters that Lindsey is usually a girl's name and Stevie is usually a guy's name. 🤔 😂
    PS Fleetwood Mac btw, was formed by drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass player John MCVie, ie Mac.

  • @gothicprincess52

    The "heavier" female voice, as you described it, is the other female lead singer Christine Mcvie. She has kind of a low smoky tone. Yall said you might have heard Go Your Own Way in a commercial. React to "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac. Christine sings lead on that one. Lindsey and Stevie do some great harmonies with her. You will definitely recognize it. Only a few months ago it was all over TV in Chevy's “EVs for Everyone” commercials. Sadly Christine passed away Nov 30 2022. Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac wrote or co-wrote eight of the band's songs on their Greatest Hits album. Guys don't leave her out of your Fleetwood Mac reactions!

    That's what makes Fleetwood Mac so amazing - so many vocal sounds from this group because they all contribute. Try You Make Loving Fun next, that's got Christine on lead vocals and an amazing bassline. Also I don't think you've listened to Dire Straits yet but I think you'd like some Mark Knopfler examples of amazing guitar solos.

      I just replied on another comment about Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits as being one of the few 'finger-pickers" playing lead.

    Lindsey is singing lead, and the song is a direct message to Stevie who is singing backup. She hated the line "shacking up's all you wanna do" and would intentionally screw it up when they played this live.

    Look at the Album cover on the video. It shows the album art and the Song names that were on that particular 45 rpm single when it was released. "Go Your own Way" is the B SIDE of "The Chain". THE B-SIDE!!!! They had a huge hit with A B-SIDE!!!!
