I have been trying to find the nuances of AL PvP for the longest time and this was exactly what I needed. One thing that I assumed was that whether you got the extra points was determined by their rank rather than their rank score.
@@AzurLaneMeta Another thing that ties to this, when you get your four opponents which are in a similar range, occasionally you'll sometimes get a new person whose rank is vastly higher (or lower). My conclusion is along the lines of them rushing and since you "logged on" after they recently finished their rush would cause them to be pooled into your list of opponents. Would you be able to elaborate on that or is it an entirely random process?
Wow I never though there was so much idiosyncrasies to the PvP. I never really cared about the rank but I always try to defeat the most difficult fleet possible just to see if mine can win, out of curiosity. Or I simply fight an easy one to get the merits. Also, I never restarted a battle out of honour, may be a silly thing but I accept the defeats. Although I remember that on this season I managed to get in 31th in the first day, idk how but it was kind of cool. Anyways, I really appreciate the effort you put in making those videos. Your channel sure will grow in no time. You, Anders, Zoey, Hawk, Just3c and Userz123 are the top AL channels for me, keep up the excellent work!
Hey we are all here to have fun. If trying your fleet out against the strongest opponent and challenging yourself to not use the restart feature out of honor is what's fun for you, then more power to you. Thank you for the kind compliment.
Defence fleets are not meaningless, but they still really don't matter if you're just going for 'Admiral of the Navy'. As long as you lag your battles a bit and rush at the right time, you will still make it. I know because I've not missed an 'Admiral of the Navy' since I got my, fairly okay, meta fleet in order several months ago and I only run, weak, "meme" defence fleets. I also usually lose a couple fights a season because I'm either not paying attention or I get too stubborn sometimes when it comes down to the wire and I don't back out in time.
They make the least impactful difference of all the things you can do to maximize you score, yes. But if you are min/maxing they can help so I bring them up. 80% of ranking is wining against the left-most opponent. 10% is sandbagging. 5% is rushing. 5% everything including a small like 1% effect from defense fleets. (Note these %s are completely arbitrary opinion-based values based on my rough estimated impact with no real metric to center around, so don't take them too much to heart).
The most annoying thing about high rank pvp is restarting the fight 20 times because that single surviving Hiryuu keeps wrecking your surviving fleet of 4 on her own, while your Nagato consistently fails 4 barrage procs in a row. >_> (Also, I didn't know about any of those strategies and still somehow manage to be top100 or top50 at the end of the season, lucky^^)
I've never gotten as high as 20, but definitely it can be a time sink at times. Yes, the most important aspect is winning 210 exercises and playing the left most opponent. The rest will probably only make a difference of ~50 points total.
@@AzurLaneMeta I might have exaggerated a bit there, but I think I do often go into the double digits against Hiryuu more often than not. I suppose that's what you get for refusing to use Hiryuu yourself. xD
There is a lot more depth to PvP than I thought. Though I probably won’t invest heavily into PvP because the incentives and rewards are horrible. I’m just gonna keep buying cubes and gold bullins l.
Question: Doesn't your list reset every time you log out and back into the game? Sandbagging is allowing people to get ahead of you in points and thus maximize your own. How does this work if you play people in your range of points and refresh every time you sign in? I'm not sure how opponents show up on your list. And on lower points, say the beginning of the season, should you be looking for a certain range of people to attack? Like a certain amount of point difference?
No the list does not reset until you either win a battle or use 1/5 daily resets. Logging out and back in only updates the scores of those same 4 players.
@@AzurLaneMeta I see! So I basically should just keep an eye on the scores of the people as time passes on. But is there a specific range that I should be looking for? Like 200 points above me or something of the sort?
Any fleet you think weaker commanders would be able to defeat. IF you want to be super nice, you should take your highest level ships with no synergy and put all 6 in with no equipment. This will give people playing against your fleet the most exp while still a fairly high chance of winning. However, if your are lazy like me sometimes, just pulling a ship or 2 from formation should be sufficient for the tactic.
Okay WOAH. I had no idea there were changes in stats in PvP. But I guess that makes sense because they ships take alot more damage than usual. Also when you said skills aren't affected does that mean the dmg penalties/boosts don't affect them? And if possible what would be some meta ships to use currently? Specifically I'm asking should I going all in on trying to get ships like the Amagi and Washington? And I see alot of Nagato in your videos. Is she obtainable right now in any way or is she an event ship? P.S. I know that you're a PvP guru but possibly a video on PvE (i.e. optimal fleets and whatnot) if you can?

Gotta be honest, I don't care about rankings. But this does show me that I've been going about this wrong. Since I usually just blow all my attempts right after the new 5/10 attempts come in. It usually lands me in Rear Admiral to Vice Admiral, though I haven't actually gotten a full way through a season without losing 5 attempts due to silly reasons lol. tfw I thought of the sandbagging method a year ago and used it to hit Admiral of Navy for a few seasons when I otherwise would not have been able to Then after I stopped being consistent at logging in for PVP because of work :(
Generally you dont, however at the top end of PvP you can use that chart to see if they are closer to the cap or not. It becomes fairly obvious. Early in the season or if you are not at the top, you can still somewhat tell when your opponent's make a run. If they were ranked 800 and then suddenly when you log out and back in they are ranked 300, they made their run.
Like....on week-2 of season, when i was on rank#25. I got my opponent's rank are lesser than me (like 26 or 147). They keep on my list by 4x even 5x refresh list until out of refresh....it is okay to get 9+ point because situation like this ? Greeting

Yes, AA will reduce the dmg you take from airstrikes. Both from the natural dmg debuff it provides and the fact the opponent's planes will have less health and thus deal less crash dmg. However you are mostly better off focusing on other types of equips as your base AA for most ships versus an equipped AA wont make too much of a difference that it would warrant taking up equipment slots.
I started playing week one and was consistently rank 60-90 in PVP every season, in my server. It was a pain in the ass. I can not begin to tell you how annoying doing stuff like this is. Was it worth it, IDK!?
Ya, this sandbagging method doesn't work if you are prone to not being exactly on schedule. The closer you cut it to the end, the more chance you miss reset by a minute and lose out on 5 attempts. I think the most misses anyone has had and still gotten AOTN is 9. However, miss even 5 and you'll struggle to only get there for a minute or 2 after some decent +11s.
I just keep putting weak fleet (Dunkerque/Bataan/Enty/Noshiro/Yoizuki/Yuubari this season) until the really end to maximize the chance of +11. I won't get to top 10 at the really end as I've lost a couple of exercice this season but I already claim the 2500 yesterday and I probably can still stay top 30 at the really end. I always get the 2500 points with weak fleet when I don't miss exercices. People that put top tier fleet rarely get "Admiral of The Navy" once, if they do, it's because they got lucky at the start. Top tier defense fleet only matter a bit 2 days before the end of the season and really matter at the really end to stay on top of the ladder otherwise they get their well deserved +9/8 for using Hiryuu in defense >:P (and can't get to AOTN)
Defense fleets are less important than almost every other aspect in terms of ranking high at the end. But IF you have a strong attack fleet, you are hurting yourself if you put in a weak fleet during week 2 of a season. Using Hiryuu in the defense fleet does not increase your chances of +8/9 runs.
@@AzurLaneMeta It does when you get stuck because more people failed against your defense fleet and more right now (end of season) as the ranking get really close so you easily fall against lower rank than you (and thus +9/8). If you check top fleet on Sandy server right now, lots of them aren't top tier yet. I failed a few exercices but it seems like I still can get 1st (46 points needed and I have 5 run left) so having weak fleet even in 2nd week is still good (at least, it really doesn't hurt), that's the only way to make difference as +11 is more common with weak fleet.
If you let a weaker fleet defeat you and then they get stuck on the next person, it doesn't help you. But if someone below you (if they are battling the most left they will always be below you), loses to you then you wont ever have to deal with them again (unless you lose/miss attempts). Thus this keeps it so that only people left in the undefeated pool are those that have attack fleets capable of defeating all defense fleets. This is good for you because it will mean then all your attempts will move (unless they oversleep or something). This is different than if you are trying to maximize merit points. Then having a farmable fleet at all times is a good thing. This is why you see a lot of players not changing defense fleets, they care more about merit points over rank score. Also, it could be partially a lazy factor, the difference is very small and I definitely can related to not always switching over a defense fleet.
That's the highest achievement you can earn without ranking in the server. If you keep playing and winning you can earn points to rank high enough for better achievements.
Haha as are most people. 1 thing I would suggest if you don't care about rank and just want merit points, do your lag from 0/10 to 5/10 instead of 5/10 to 10/10 as you will have less chance of dropping below 1000.
Haha this way overkill for me. I'd be happy if I even spent all of my challenges before they maxed out let alone timing when I play and what teams I use. Fuck that noise xD Can't be bothered

What about a "power creep in the meta" video?
Ships that used to be meta but have been replaced by overall better ships
Hmmmm...
I'm stuck in Captain!!!
Please hep me
That's the highest achievement you can earn without ranking in the server. If you keep playing and winning you can earn points to rank high enough for better achievements.
I'm taking PVP seriously for the gold bullions
Haha as are most people. 1 thing I would suggest if you don't care about rank and just want merit points, do your lag from 0/10 to 5/10 instead of 5/10 to 10/10 as you will have less chance of dropping below 1000.
Haha this way overkill for me. I'd be happy if I even spent all of my challenges before they maxed out let alone timing when I play and what teams I use. Fuck that noise xD Can't be bothered
It is labeled "advanced" lol
Fair enough
Horrible. A total nightmare.
It is when you oversleep a refresh after spending nearly 2 weeks trying to rank... Speak from experience.
