The irony that the very ship meant to be a beacon of hope, peace and progress into the future became the largest weapons platform designed to go into battle.
No the alien magnetar ships were bigger and way faster and maneuverable and almost indestructible. Also the protomolecule station has a weapon that is revealed in the other books.
Still fails to do it's job as a warship, as the moment it goes combat mode, power goes off. This ship was designed to hold a colony, not a colony + torpedoes + PDCs, that's just asking for trouble in it's already overworked reactor that was designed for it's original purpose. It doesn't have enough juice. What are you going to do about it? Cut propulsion? Or cut Life Support just so you can fire your guns while being a sitting duck to even the most pathetic warship UNN can bring from it's Arsenal. Rocinante will dance around this and not miss a single railgun.
The detail of the swarm of rocket drones that act as "tugs" is really cool. And the coolest thing is that it is plausible, logical and could possibly be applied in real life. The hard science of this show is what makes it more delightful to watch.
This is my absolute favorite scene from the whole of the expanse S seeing all those drone tugs move the ship around and get it ready to launch which is truly amazing It was like an opera everything in this place
I'm just now watching this show and was confused on why it was adrift in season 3. Why didn't the mormons contract to have it brought back? I didn't even realize it was abandoned until OPA went back to salvage it.
Remember that the Nauvoo was the largest ship ever constructed at the time, and somewhat unfinished. Recovering it was a feat that required resources and equipment that only Tycho could provide. Plus, it's clear Fred and the OPA included a backup navigation protocol that would cut the burn in the event of a miss and place the ship into a recoverable solar orbit, the location of which they kept to themselves.
this is the most beautiful launch scene in all of scifi :) also, would it be okay for me to copy your fair use disclaimer text? i often explain fair use to people, but they don't even know the law exists - you have summarized beautifully here :)
My son sent me this clip...I know nothing about this show, but as a member of the LDS Church of Jesus Christ, my heart was on fire as I saw that big, beautiful angel Moroni in space. This whole clip was thrilling. I must watch this now! Thank you for sharing.
Three months later. But I picture believing Mormons being unhappy with the way the theology is treated. But if you can stand the play "Book of Mormon" with a tongue in cheek and not worry about potential areas of being offended, this is one of the better sci-fi shows around right now.

One of the best executed scenes in SciFi history. The choice to show us the entire 3 minute launch makes it so much more than run of the mill Starship porn. Not that I mind a little ship porn from time to time. But hearing the dialogue that would be right at home now coming of NASA speakers makes it feel bigger and more grounded. Plus the ship survives after all. Spoiler alert. but she survives.
No one, because the material isn't from Earth. That's why Tycho is a station orbiting in the asteroid belt, so that asteroids can be used for resources.
Are you stupid or something? A typical iron-nickel asteroid a few hundred meters across could net you MILLIONS of kilos, and thousands of them would be sitting right near the orbit of Tycho.

The little touch of the drive exhaust melting/warping a couple of pieces of the scaffolding and heating others orange-hot was outstanding.
Also notice that on the return trip, one of the tugs gets a little to close to the Nauvoo’s engines and burns up in its exhaust plume.
thanks i missed that
@@cinedelasestrellas thanks i missed that
i noticed that the second or third time i watched it. Several burn up in the drive plume
Actually it’s the opposite-and one of the few physics errors in the scene. Space is a bad conductor…like really really bad

The later scene where the ship is recovered and the drones have to capture it is pretty nice, too.
My only real regret in life is that I'll probably won't be around long enough to witness awesome stuff like this in real life.

Beautiful scene. I haven't been this impressed with sci-fi in a long time.

They either didn't have enough funds for that or didn't trust anyone to get screwed again. Or both. So they gave up
I think they sued the OPA, the lawsuit still continues, but they don't have the capability to recover it themselves.
i realize I am pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good site to watch new series online?

It truly is, still causes goosebumps. Of course go ahead and use it but keep in mind it's not mine it's the general disclaimer for that matter.
I'd go with the Stealing The Enterprise scene in Search For Spock.
Might be my fav scene of the entire show

Such a great scene! They even have the gantry getting orange hot and a few of the later tugs getting vaporized.

Watch through season three, when a pastor becomes a major character.
Hi. Does anyone know where I can get a wallpaper of the Nauvoo starting it's drive for the launch. Would really appreciate
The only thing that beats this is watching SpaceX Falcon boosters land themselves. Precusors to the tugs in this scene.

Even if that was meant to be a private expedition ferrying, what were they, Mormons? It's sad that ship never got to go on it's journey.
Good thing for the Mormons. Embarking on a generation ship when in a few months humanity gains access to FTL travel would be a bummer.

The LDS church was planning on a multigenerational voyage to a new system. Unfortunately for them the belters lobbed the LDSS Nauvoo at a big rock
