While jumping around can get you to all sorts of places, I believe another good skill to have is to avoid jumping if it is not necessary. Once you started your jump, you can't correct your movement until you landed.
In my opinion this is one thing, that separates the good players from the best.

this is great.. the fundamentals of good gameplay often go unaddressed, and i appreciate the insight. maybe this is why my raid lead was constantly jumping around even while explaining lady deathwhisper(just dodge ghosts btw)

Good video - movement and positioning makes such a big difference for players.
Being able to move while panning camera makes a huge difference when a mechanic is coming straight at you. I see so many people look straight away from the boss.
You’ll see something similar to this on the murloc boss in BFD.

This is so true. You have to be an OG WoW player to understand this to the fullest. Everyone else will just think it's not important/not understand it. I literally find myself doing the same jumps.. Last ST I was jumping from a candle to another in the same spot you were lol. Trying to do full distance jumps from one to another without falling and do a full lap xD

You're making an interesting point. I always assumed that people who jump around for no reason do it subconsciously because they're impatient. I personally believe that moving more than absolutely necessary is a waste of effort and focus. But that comes from the perspective of a player who strictly PvEs and doesn't touch PvP with a 10-foot pole. You kinda opened my eyes a bit. Thanks.

I think it's kind of both. I think it's necessary for newer players to learn how to move their character properly. I remember when we started playing Classic, I had come back from years of playing retail at a fairly high level while our group of friends had never played WoW or stopped some time during Vanilla or Wrath. And I just take me able to move around for granted, while they struggled with what I would consider basic movement. I remember we did quests in Tanaris in the pirate cove and you have to go into one of the boats and walk on some beams to get out. My friend just could not do it and it took him several tries to be able to get out of the boat.
I don't think it's necessary for seasoned players to keep fidgeting around because it does actually take away some of the focus and it's good to just give yourself a little mental break and let your fingers rest. I do see the point he's making, but I would say; within reason. Fidgeting around won't make you an amazing WoW player, but it's a good start.

there are situations where jumping is helpful. for example as a priest or druid if you're being chased by a shaman pressing frost shock on cd, if you spam jump, you are likely to get frost shocked mid air and be able to dispel yourself or shift the slow before you land, and keep running without being slowed at all. jumping just before a move speed increase expires, etc.

yes. As a rogue you should always jump before stealth and right as sprint ends. Theres so many things like this it'd be hard to list them all.

Great video. It's amazing how many players would underrate this movement.

Could you make a more precise video on which keys to use while moving. I noticed many top players only using q w e and mouse for movement while I really struggle not to use wasd so I can actually put hotkeys on a s and d

In my opinion It doesn't really matter. You can rebind those movement keys to abilties and get used to them for "more keybinds" or you can just use more keybinds, theres no shortage of buttons on your keyboard and playing something like Rogue already doesn't have a ton of abilities.
Personally I still have the default move keys bound, and have autorun on a mouse button so I can play 1 handed with either hand. Or so I can pan my camera behind me and still turn while walking forward.

Where’s the part where you explain how? I just got the why/where/when to practice jumping.

To be honest, bro I don't think its something you can just make a guide for like do A then when you can do this do B etc. We all have our own mouse sensitivities. I don't think it's something you can just sit down and teach; it's more like a muscle memory you gain. I suggest you get out there, do some 90, 120, 180, and 360 degree jumps, and I don't know piss about have fun pretend you're doing some parkour. Try and jump onto the random fence and run along it while you're on your way to your next dungeon have fun with it the floor is lava. 20 hours later without even realising it your camera control alone will be much better once you have that then its just game sense when it comes to positioning :)
