Leobin says he's obsessed with Starbuck and God and all that, but the instant he is confronted with an actual divine experience involving Starbuck that can't be easily explained, he nopes out real fast.
That made no sense to me honestly; that light switch like change he had.
@@venetianjack1348 I don't disagree. That's part of what makes it so funny. But I wish we had seen more of him sort of coming to grips with it.
@@venetianjack1348 in the Bible, there was a witch who claimed she could see and summon the dead. I forgot who, but one of the main guys went to her asking to see one of his teachers. The witch panicked when it actually worked
@@grantbarday5760 no, the witch panicked because that man was a sort of inquisitor who had killed many witches.
@@grantbarday5760 Of Endor.
Everybody is gangsta till they see a corpse of dead Starbuck in a crashed Viper, with alive Starback standing near it. Remember how Leobin shat himself and started to run away?
things got too deep
It killed his character as he seemed to disappear from the storyline thereafter, the only thing I can remember him doing after than point is saying the Centurions deserved their freedom...
@@Negativvv But that's the best part! The guy was always sort of a coward. You do see some Leobins working on the ship later, but this one is probably sitting huddled in a fetal position on the Cylon ship the rest of season.
@@badnoodlez Yeah, probably
@@badnoodlez a lot of arc never were lol don't forget tigh and adama never even had a final farewell, among numerous other gaffes.
I always was hooked on the scenes between Starbuck and Leoben. I think Leoben actually did love Starbuck. Fascinating to watch. Whoever the writers were, they did an amazing job.
Only one problem with this scene, Leoben the cylon has superhuman strength. He clearly states at the beginning of the scene that he could kill Starbuck the human like snapping an old chicken bone that's been baking in the sun for 6 months in the desert. Starbuck gives him the "yeah, right" look and he proceeds to demonstrate his strength. He tears his hand cuffs apart like they were made with licorice. He rips the table from it's moorings and has her by the throat. Ok, I'm on board with that.
But then he is easily overpowered by 2 guards? With that kind of cylon strength, 2 mere humans would be no match for him. He should have been easily able to rip both their heads off, never mind simply stand up when they kept dunking him in the bucket.
I know I know, it's over analysis on my part, but still. A definite goof in the plot.
Still love the scene though.
He let it happen. He needed to get "drowned", he needed to have Starbuck seeing the hurting she was doing, then he would start with that speech "look how much I see your soul, how much I know of you"
This is one thing I always disliked about BSG. The writers could never make up their minds about how strong the skinjob Cylons are. In one scene they're extremely strong; in the next they're about the same as humans. Then there's also the fact that Gaius Baltar said he'd performed some tests that revealed that skinjob Cylons are basically identical to humans right down to the cellular level, which if we take that to be true, means they logically CANNOT be intrinsically stronger than humans.
@@antred11 I don't think that is true. We had the scene with Boomer inserting the cable into her arm, connecting with her. Not exactly possible if we go with the "literally the same as humans" idea. As for the strength, i also felt like they often chosed to not use their strength, but you could always come up with a reason why they wouldn't.
Leobin was always an intriguing character, like he says: to see the face of god is to know madness, it always seemed like his ability to predict the future made him seem crazy. But in retrospect almost everything he says comes to pass.
He was definitely the most interesting of the Cylons, for me.
Because religion is nonsensical madness.
I always got the feeling that Leobin knew more about what really going on than anyone else, human or Cylon. He was the only one really paying attention to the patterns.
Some effective performances there.
Oh, I don't know about that.
Much of it did come to pass, but when "this all" happened again, it was not with the same characters playing different roles.
I really need to find time to rewatch this show.
same.... for the 7th time
I think the time has come.
2:57 Andy Dwyer would call that Network Connectivity Problem
0:28 Hello Kate Sackhoff's stunt double.
Hah, I never noticed that!
What the frack!
Hahahaha! They goofed!
"Won't he just transfer away and laugh at all our stupid human ideas?" Yeah, pretty much.
I guess it just makes the point that humans are just as brutal as the cylons in the end. Its all about survival.
Nah they're just Americans.
The humans were cornered and left with no alternatives. And as any biologist will tell you, a cornered beast will not go down without a bloody fight. Even something as small and weak as a rat can be surprisingly vicious and brutal when placed in a truly desperate situation.
But the Cylons were not pressed into a corner. The Cylons could have chosen to never confront the humans again, and could have stayed in their own territory until the end of time. The humans had no interest in fighting the Cylons, and the Cylons' only motive was an ill-conceived notion that "In order for the children to come into their own, the parents have to die". Therefore, I would argue that the Cylons are even more brutal than the humans. Because the Cylons aren't fighting for survival; they're fighting because they want to fight, and they care nothing for the billions of dead.
We didn’t start that war. The Cylons premeditated genocide against people who simply wanted to be left alone
Leoben to Starbuck: "What you dont seem to realize is that im not locked up in here with you, you're locked up in here with me!"
That's another movie.
The beginning of this scene is the most perfect example of frack around and find out 😂
NO EXACTLY LIKE THAT!
Too bad star buck wasn't smoking a cigar during this scene
Katee Sackhoff was incredible in this series.
Starbuck clearly lost this battle.
I'd say they both got some licks in
@@stonem0013 Dunno, looked like Kara brought a knife to a gun fight.
@@general8284 Perhaps the violence was ineffective, sure, but pretty much all of the psychological attacks she made on him landed - he was scared that when he died he wouldn't have a soul that would continue, and he wanted to be more than a programmed machine. She definitely understood him, especially by the end.
@@stonem0013 I respectfully disagree. Every time Starbuck took a shot it was like she wasn't getting the message of what was actually happening. Obviously in hindsight of watching the whole series...
Leoben had a message to convey to her, which she wasn't ready for, he just used the threat of the nuke to keep her attention for as long as he could.
I don't think he was afraid of what Starbuck had to threaten with. He had an objective to complete and he did it.
False dichotomy pal. No one won anything. No one.
Anecdotally, "Starbuck Gets A Surprise" is also the name of a movie I'd like to produce and star in.
my thoughts exactly. although i always had a crush on racetrack
How did the cylons engineer their human-like bodies to be so strong ?
Especially since they all seem to be as weak as humans in later seasons?
They are made of Synthetic material and the material is made from organic silica, silica is the same material that makes up the Centurions and Raiders. But the Silica in Centurions and Raiders are inorganic thus metallic. Theirs isn't so based on that principal their strength is like a weak organic metal so their strength is relative to their bodies so they have heightened strength, agility, reflexes etc. But they won't hit harder than a basic metal like steel so their fists will hit like a hand shaped organic steel or iron or something. So they are only slightly stronger than humans. They can break out of handcuffs push and lift metal objects but they can't break through a super solid metal door or lift a car over their heads just push it off. They're about 3 times stronger than a human which isn't much but can do a lot of damage to humans. Spider Man has a relatively weak super strength and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer has the same strength and their strength is 10 times that of a human so humanoid cylons do only 30% of their strength. Thus enhanced/heightened strength not super strength. Because they're organic they can't be made bullet proof, can't stand super potent immense radiation and are immune to most diseases but not all.
The show was pretty inconsistent on that. At one point either Cottle or Baltar said that the humanoid Cylons were nearly identical to humans, right down to the cellular level. If we accept that to be true then it follows that it should be impossible for them to be stronger or faster than humans.
@@antred11 Perhaps they're only stronger because humans don't work out all that much
They're not exactly much stronger, but programmed with very efficient use of movement and muscles.
Katee and Cullum worked together again on Longmire.
Fuck, I have to watch the show
Is it just me or is Starbuck like insanely hot right now

Why is that lady torturing Billy Tallent?
God the camera work is just horribly done
idk anything abt that, but the editing is pretty bad. (He has cuts & blood, washed away after the first two dunks, then back, & worse!)
Everybody's a Critic the show wasn't designed to be filmed on a soundstage for studio audience they seem designed to be on one cameras shoot show it's a new way to break away from the old traditional set up a sound stage with a studio audience and then shoot with multiple cameras blah blah blah
Well the budget was less than a normal network show back in the day. Sci-Fi was a barely known basic cable network back in the day and BSG put them on the map. So in the first season they didn't have the money to smooth things out like now. Also the camera work is done on purpose to make the show look gritty, it's a popular technique in a lot of gritty shows it's just overdone a bit. But at least it's no where as bad as say Canada's Blackstone which was also a great program by the way.
