    “Sorry boss, I’m going to be late for work. Glenn just uploaded a video about a sport I’m not a fan of on a console I never owned. Yes, it is an emergency.”
    You know a channel is good when you don’t care what the creator posts, you watch it and love it!

    Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest is hands down the best baseball game on the N64.

    This was my first baseball game as a kid. I was 6. N64 was my first console. This game was so hard for me the first time I ever scored and lead 1-0 in a game I immediately started bunting to get out and get on to the next frame to try and get 3 outs and “win” only to find out there were 8 more innings 😂 I had no concept of how long a baseball game was yet

    Wow, over a decade, hard to believe I've been enjoying your videos for so many years! Your passion for the N64 reminded me of why I enjoyed playing the console as a kid. Though I can't remember exactly, I think the first video I saw of yours was Turok and Turok 2, h nice why I got every Turok game for the N64. Here's to another decade! 🥂

  • @FnRenner
    @FnRenner 2 года назад +9

    I remember renting this many, many times as a kid. My pops never let me buy sports games because he said the only difference between this years edition and next years were the rosters. The graphics advances didn't matter to him. I wonder what he'd think of the state of sports games in 2022 lol. He'd probably spend far too much time online calling people "dumbass knuckleheads" for buying a Madden game in this millennium...

    • @PaulGaither
      @PaulGaither 2 года назад +3

      Did you never own any sports games, or would he at least allow you to own the older titles that were being sold for $8 and under?
      For example, I bought Troy Aikman football from 1994 in 1996 and I got Madden 96 in 1998.
      It was my friend who owned NFL 2K (1999) on his Dreamcast, and we played that for two years until 2k2 came out. My first NEW sports game of my own was Madden 04 (2003), and then ESPN NFL 2K5 the next year. Despite that, I knew it was foolish to just buy the new game each year.

  • @oscarzxn4067
    @oscarzxn4067 2 года назад +7

    Releasing a weird version of the last year sports game instead of the actual new entry is the same thing they did with the only Fifa game they released on Wii U (Fifa 13).

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  2 года назад +6

      And they still do now calling it “legacy editions” on switch

    • @ruekurei88
      @ruekurei88 2 года назад +1

      They do that with all platforms that aren't their main moneymakers. Vita, Wii U , Switch, 3DS etc. If you aren't a main MS or PS platform, then it's best to ignore EA sports games in general(first entries may be okay, but they're gonna be rough, all legacy after that tho). YMMV with PC.

    • @oscarzxn4067
      @oscarzxn4067 2 года назад

      @@ruekurei88 Legacy Editions are just literally the same game. Fifa 13 for Wii U did get some changes from Fifa 12, but it still wasn't Fifa 13-

    • @doktorabraham
      @doktorabraham 2 года назад

      Oddly enough I preferred fifa 13 on Wii U over the PS3 version lol but yeah it was clearly FIFA 12 with lots of frame drops and lacking features and modes.

  • @TheGunmanChannel

    I find the only sports titles that have held up well are extreme sports like snow boarding, skate boarding, BMX etc. But there may be some exceptions.

    • @PaulGaither
      @PaulGaither 2 года назад +1

      I agree, and a big reason has to do with the core game play experience. For example, Techmo Bowl offers a very different and unique American football 🏈 experience compared to modern versions of the sport, which is why it retains fans to this day. Meanwhile, nobody is clamoring to play SNES, N64 or PS1 versions of Madden or other football games.
      Ironically, the more simulation a game wants to be, the less it holds up over time. This is because better simulations come out each year and make older titles obsolete and unplayable by comparison.

    • @Brendon_Shepherd
      @Brendon_Shepherd 2 года назад +2

      Arcade sports games like NBA JAM and Wayne Gretzky Hockey i can easy pickup and play. Its mostly more simulation style sports games which dont really stand the test of time.

    This is the baseball game I played as a kid (next to Bases Loaded on GB). And while it didn't age as gracefully as I remember, the audio and sound are amazing and you can notice small touches like: whistles and cadences from the fans and warnings from the ballpark PA.

    I have the playstation version of this title. Played it like crazy when it was the newest title. On occasion, I'll still pop it in and play a short game, always enjoyed the various sound effects. Played the n64 version when I rented it from blockbuster video. The playstation version is the better version. For baseball on the n64, All-Star Baseball is the best for simulation style. Ken Griffey jr. is probably the best arcade style.

    Triple Play 2000 is a god-damned work of art on PSone when you compare it to the DUMPSTER FIRE on N64! I should know as I have had both versions since '99! in fact, it was so bad that my older brother imported Konami's Powerful Pro Yakyuu baseball game from Japan, although we couldn't navigate the menus as they were all in kanji but we still had fun playing it... the same cannot be said for Triple Play 2000 on N64.

    I don’t know why EA stopped doing baseball games. I feel like MLB The Show needs some competition. The Show has so many issues that should have been fixed by now, but they are not because it’s the only AAA baseball game in the market so people will buy it anyways…

    I this game did miss a HUGE opportunity to make a name for itself as well. I only have the two baseball titles that were released in PAL version and found that both of them were extremely satisfying to play. Also, apart from soccer games on N64, what other sports games were your favourite to play?

    I'm embarrassed to admit that I still don't completely understand the rules of baseball, lol. It seems somewhat more complex than soccer's or tennis rules, and more of a slower paced game overall. Maybe I'll look into them sometime. On another note, why did the poor old N64 often got some of the crappiest ports? This game Triple Play 2000, but also the Quake games, Superman 64 (although the PS1 version was never released, it was recently leaked), and even the renowned Resident Evil 2 port didn't come without it's own cuts.
