NHL Blades Of Steel 99 review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using an Ultra HDMI modded N64 console with an Elgato game capture HD capture card using a real game cartridge.
Does this retro nostalgic game fall into your top 5 or top 10 N64 games?

It is odd that Konami brought back Blades of Steel and Track & Field from the NES to the N64, but they didn't bring back Double Dribble to complete the set. :S

NHL 99 and Wayne Gretzkeys 3D Hockey were our go to N64 Hockey games. A friend of mine had this game, but we NEVER played it.

No wonder it's just another shoddy sports title. I think a half of the N64 library is sports titles at the very least.

I think it just came down to what we found "fun". Wayne Gretzkey was pure arcade action (which we looooooooooooved) and even with NHL 99, even though it's supposed to be a sim game you could make it into an arcade style game by turning all the penalties off and stuff like that.

Ah great! Only recently found this channel, and when looking at the dates of uploads, and comments (2+ years ago) I was worried that you were gone, I'm glad that's not the case! Loving the nostalgia trip these videos give me, keep up the good work dude :-D

I’d love to see them bring it back on the Fox Engine. International Track & Field as well. I don’t dislike EA, but if Konami isn’t going to make single player focused titles anymore, being a sports competitor for EA could be a great business model for them. Many gamers prefer PES to FIFA, after all.

Thanks for another quick upload Glenn. I'm sick on the 4th of July, but I have 3 unwatched Glenn Plant reviews to watch in bed today. 😷🤒🤓

As an actual Hockey player, I wouldn't necessarily discount a game solely based on the speed of the players... because really, it's a trade-off: Sure, with face paced games, it's an exciting adrenaline rush... but at the same time, things can go so fast that you're unable to pull off the pin-point moves that you would like. Take for example, multiple dekes: In real life, you pull off single, double, or triple dekes in a relatively short time span. However, in fast paced video games, often times, the players are moving so quickly, that you barely have enough time to pull off even a SINGLE DEKE !!! I haven't played this game in particular, but in general, I view it like pizza: I appreciate the diversity & different kinds. Each one bringing a fresh take on an old classic.

So then Glenn does THIS Hockey game give anything for the Arcade fans?
Also i noticed Konami has a whole plethora of Sports games on n64. are any of them worth it?

You should review "Blues Brothers 2000" I had that game as a kid and I remember being on the first level too long and it being not so good, but interesting! :P

I have an intro video on this game in the can, and you're right; it does move way too slow. A deal-breaker for a hockey game...

Ah, too bad it's not an updated version of the NES game. that's still one of my favorite games on NES. At least Wayne Gretsky's is more arcade-ish. You mentioned "other entries" and now I'm on the lookout for a SNES release I didn't know about.

Konami made some great N64 games (Legacy of Darkness, Hybrid Heaven) but it also made some really shitty ones, like G.A.S.P and that game about the olimpics...
