Very nice review. I have this still, and used to play the heck out of this. I actually have an EA memory card that I used for this game. I recently rediscovered this on an emulator game machine I got a few months back. The running game is top notch in this game.
One of my first video games I ever got as a kid, I have such a nostalgia for this and Nascar 2000. Made me into the football fanatic that I am today (Go Bucs!)
Packers fan here. By the time this game rolled around, I had already planned to make the leap to the Dreamcast and waited for a launch system. My time with the N64 had mostly ended in the late 90s, and only spent a few moments with the handful of semi-interesting games it had left. The PlayStation was king and had taken over my life at the time by then, and I was regretting not getting one sooner when I only had an N64. I didn't have a lot of money either, so instead of buying, we used to rent games from time to time, Madden 2000 for N64 was one of those times. About five years later, I bought a cheap copy along with other cheap games, when stores (including rental stores and rummage sales) were trying their hardest to rid of anything N64-related for less than a cheap sandwich. While I do belive that Madden 2000 on the N64 was a good games, I was ready to move on...and I wouldn't return to Madden games as a more serious fan until partway through the PS2 and GameCube's life. I was already spoiled by NFL Blitz series, which has become the only N64 football games I can fully enjoy and replay back then and today. Then the NFL 2K franchise came out and made all N64 and PS1 football games look like a joke. In my opinion, Madden had to evolve to compete, but we had to wait until the next generation of consoles and the Dreamcast was already there.
You’re absolutely right on Madden’s need to evolve. They had to make some changes and they eventually did. It’s kinda hard to change mid generation, obviously. I basically stayed away from the series back in the day from Madden 99 up until Madden 2002 in the GCN. - Danny

Madden 2000 on PS1 has some good extra nostalgia that the N64 doesn't even have like the extra secret fantasy teams have these musical intros that the N64 doesn't have. Today though I find it a nice throwback experience as the game itself is going to be 25 years old next year in 2024 heck Madden NFL 99 is 25 years right now in 2023 which makes me feel a bit old :D

Right on! For NASCAR, I wasn’t really ever into so much, but I did play NASCAR 99 (I THINK!) on the N64 and it was pretty fun. - Danny
