This is a major hot take, but I am willing to do a deep dive to explain why I think it was a better call than running it. From the standpoint of reading the defense, New England had eight in the box, and I don't like my chances running the ball against eight in the box, even if I have Barry Sanders in a jumbo formation. Marshawn Lynch obviously isn't Barry Sanders, so passing the ball is the obvious call. As for the play design itself, it's actually a Pete Carroll special that he's used quite a bit over the years against man-coverage looks on the goal line, and it can be symmetrically flipped to either side of the field. The basic concept is that on whichever side the quarterback throws to, two receivers will line up there. The inside receiver is there as a decoy whose job is to rub the defensive back covering him. The outside receiver's route is behind the rub and then into the end zone, where the quarterback will do a pre-planned throw, and if the defensive back covering him tries to follow him behind the rub, it's an easy touchdown. The ONLY way this play fails is if the defensive back doesn't follow the receiver behind the rub and instead takes a direct path to where the ball is thrown to, which had never happened before Super Bowl XLIX, and hasn't happened since. What Carroll didn't foresee was that Bill Belichick had run this specific play in practice because he knew that it could potentially be called at some point, and that Malcolm Butler was burned repeatedly on it. So, it's 2nd & goal to go from the 1, with the game in the balance. Butler, who'd been burned two plays earlier on Kearse's incredible catch, is frantically subbed in by the coaches because they think that Carroll is about to call that particular design. When Butler lines up on the outside, it's almost as if a lightbulb clicked on in his head, because instead of chasing the receiver like he'd done in practice, he takes a direct path to where the throw will be and picks it off to win the Super Bowl. The design didn't fail because it was a bad design or because it was the wrong call for that situation, it was beaten by one of the greatest defensive plays ever made.
Very new to football, like started watching for a month. Is it hard for a QB to run 80 yards usually or is it just Daniel Jones? I see other players are able to run 100 yards easily if they intercept.
@@sureshkrjsl nah, it's not necessarily the distance he was struggling with. he probably could've slowed up a bit and still scored, but i don't think he knew that. it definitely isn't easy tho. it takes a long time to get to the point it looks easy (running that far, that fast is second nature to those players you've seen go 100 yards easily). guys like daniel jones don't usually need to outrun those faster guys for that long, so it was probably just difficult for him to keep running that hard for as long as he did.

the best ball hawk of all-time, and he was always trying to score once he got the ball in his hands. i remember back in 2004, on a sunday night football game (possibly against the redskins), he won me my fantasy game on 1 play by sacking the qb, forcing a fumble, picking up the fumble, and returning it for a td. that was a 12 point play.
are you stupid? his teammate is blocking for him but he's going back and forth creating an opening for the defender. he didn't try to 'use' his teammate at all so the teammate couldn't help block

iirc, the ref that got in the way of Joe Horn was Phil Luckett, aka the guy that's infamous for the Coin Flip debacle on Thanksgiving with the Steelers & Lions.
The Daniel Jones clip is relatable. It reminds me of a time I was racing the 800m in high school. As I was coming down the final stretch, my legs were moving as fast as possible, but my legs grew heavy, and I tripped 40 something meters before the finish line. Even if we try to go full speed, sometimes our legs will just throw in the towel.
I was at the Cowboys-Seahawks game that Romo fumbled away. I left with half the stadium with 2-3 minutes left. Heard the cheers from the parking lot. Never leave early...
Ed Reed showboating as a rookie and losing the ball was such a good lesson for him. Never lose focus, follow through, and he was one of the best players to play because of what he learned
I remember in junior varsity my freshman year of football I caught a pass wide open path to the endzone and just got too excited and fell down b4 I could score a tud. I remember desean jackson threw the ball before he stepped in the end zone lol and crazy part is it was a fumble and the cowboys didn’t know it so they didn’t pick up the ball
They actually did, but the whistle had been blown, so the ball was dead.
Its absurd bc that shit happens way too often. Its ridiculous
My favorite part of that clip is desean doing the double take looking back like he kinda thought for a second, “oh shit” then just says screw it and starts dancing 😂
The best part is it wasn't his first time dropping the ball before the goal line.
@@Thrashman-ye4cf bro use to be funny lol
I love the great defensive play ones more than offensive players screwing up. Great work on D guys!
Also, it's incredible how many of these mistakes/missed chances happened to guys who are Hall of Famers!
1:00 the lineman came to celebrate with fitz 😭😭
Ted Ginn Jr. The greatest at dropping game winning touchdowns to ever play.
Because he's actually a corner back oh st made him a reciever 😒🤦🏾
Where was Ben Watson running down Champ Bailey?
that's what i came down here to say. i couldn't remember if it was ben watson or ben coates though. i knew it was a patriots tight end who ran 100 yards plus from the complete other side of the field. dude ran the hypotenuse to make the play.
19:58 Ed Reed certainly overcame that rookie mistake to have a Hall of Fame career.
the best ball hawk of all-time, and he was always trying to score once he got the ball in his hands. i remember back in 2004, on a sunday night football game (possibly against the redskins), he won me my fantasy game on 1 play by sacking the qb, forcing a fumble, picking up the fumble, and returning it for a td. that was a 12 point play.
14:18 I'll be mad if I'm Dante Hall! I can't stand when Teammates try to outrun you but won't block for you! Block his behind!!!
are you stupid? his teammate is blocking for him but he's going back and forth creating an opening for the defender. he didn't try to 'use' his teammate at all so the teammate couldn't help block
I've f'd up at work many times. Glad mine weren't televised. I feel for a lot of these dudes.
DK running down Baker is like a T-Rex running down its prey. That dude is unfairly large and fast.
There can’t be many things more terrifying than DK Metcalf running at you at full speed and with bad intentions.
@@roljamas There was once a linebacker named Mark Fields. A real life NFL linebacker with video game attributes. Would not want that beast running me down either.
Even though I know what this video is about, I’m still kinda expecting most players to catch the ball when it’s passed and shaking my head when they don’t. 😅
Danny dimes tripping on a dime.
6:48 props to the punter for the chase down
6:00 the greatest return no one knows about
18:02 Adam Vinateri out there doing his best Darrell Green imitation
21:31 Darrell Green doing Darrell Green things
21:51 Eric Dickerson said he knew Darrell Green was going to catch him
Crazy that Viniatieri was around for Cowboys Herschel Walker
Watched that Daniel Jones sht live bro I was rolling😂
So was he
1:13 that should not be allowed Lol
Official is just standing directly in the way. At least shouldn’t have a down expended for that
That ref should’ve got flagged for that pass interference
“He drops the ball!” Is my new favorite thing to hear any announcer say.
You should hear the "Choke Cubs Choke" song then.
7:01 what can Wims do right 😂 he randomly punches CGJ one day and drops an easy TD another
The most impressive thing about this video is a punter tackling 2 different people at the 1 yard line, one of them being deion sanders. Shout out hunter smith. Colts know how to pick a special punter 11:03
Daniel Jones falling down instead of scoring an easy TD is the perfect meme to summarize his entire career.
So true!
The amount of great players in these clips just goes to show it’s not automatic. Man some of these were absolutely brutal, a lot were funny asf though 😂
This channel memeing harder than anyone on NFL twitter rn
You missed Champ Bailey INT of Tom Brady and Ben Watson running him down at the goal line!!
I love how they showed the ref falling in slow mo for a second 1:18 😂
A few of these are legit great efforts by the tacklers not giving up. Can’t blame the ball carrier.
say what you want about trubisky but that throw was perfect
The snowboating before getting in the endzone... when they fail it's a beautiful thing.
Turf monster moments
Ted Ginn had that drop issue on the niners too. Always pissed me off.
Man....this channel is awesome!
That final play of the Seahawks and Patriots Super Bowl game will never, ever, EVER be forgotten. It will make every single NFL fail video until the end of time. It will be written about in history books.
Daniel Jones checks under the bed for turf monsters
As a Dallas fan, I can get past the Tony Romo fumble against Seattle, because I thought it was a hell of a hustle to make on a botched hold. But, why do you have to remind me of the Leon Lett fumble against Buffalo in the Superbowl? That one still sits in the pit of my stomach like food poisoning!
The last play of this video is diabolical work by NFL Throwback.
The first two clips have to be the funniest. The lineman coming to celebrate with Fitzpatrick is killing me😂😂😂
Okay, we're all human, but come on, catch the ball. Your hands don't slip on that paycheck, do they?
This is so painful. I know what's coming each time and it's STILL something that makes me wince in anguish with each instance. Great compilation!
1:12 nah that should count BS.
As a long time Bear Fan I would like to thank you for not making this a 45min lowlite video on just our bone head mistakes!😮😊😢, there were a couple of teams that were on more than most!😂❤
A Daniel Jones moment.

Hunter Smith is a legend for tackling Deion Sanders and Desmond Howard.
3:19 Too dumb 😂
Me on every one of these dropped balls, “I totally would’ve caught that.”
For anyone wondering, the Cardinals did not score a touchdown after Metcalf tackled him. (But the cardinals still won)
The last frame of Julio Jones before it cuts away at 13:04 may be the most tragic posture of defeat I've ever seen
Don Beebe running his ass off to stop a touchdown late in a game his team is getting slaughtered in will forever be my favorite play.
iirc, the ref that got in the way of Joe Horn was Phil Luckett, aka the guy that's infamous for the Coin Flip debacle on Thanksgiving with the Steelers & Lions.
2:05 “you would swear that everybody would learn by now”😂😂😂 12 years later now and they STILL DO IT😂😂😂
It’s not a slip. It happened to me in a game. Can’t explain it. Like your body goes faster than your legs and you just fall forward at high speed.
The Romo bobble still hurts and so does his last play where he had the best team he’s ever had and he injured his back.
12:12 smart play it off as an injury after that drop pass lol
I remember the Bears vs Saints play because the Saints ran the same play a week later and it worked for them
The Daniel Jones clip is relatable. It reminds me of a time I was racing the 800m in high school. As I was coming down the final stretch, my legs were moving as fast as possible, but my legs grew heavy, and I tripped 40 something meters before the finish line. Even if we try to go full speed, sometimes our legs will just throw in the towel.
Darrell Green the GOAT. #28 ☝🏻
Saints Fan here, I can still hear my uncle's voice to this day yelling at the TV "GET TF OUT THE WAY REF!!" 🤣
Another video, one of the best NFL channels
I was at the Cowboys-Seahawks game that Romo fumbled away. I left with half the stadium with 2-3 minutes left. Heard the cheers from the parking lot. Never leave early...
Hope you get to one million subs soon.
“He had it every which way, but in his hands” 🤯
1:40 man, I remember seeing that play.
Ed Reed showboating as a rookie and losing the ball was such a good lesson for him. Never lose focus, follow through, and he was one of the best players to play because of what he learned
Danny Dimes falling was the perfect symbol for the NFC east at the time.
I remember in junior varsity my freshman year of football I caught a pass wide open path to the endzone and just got too excited and fell down b4 I could score a tud. It's a weird feeling like your feet are slower than your upper body. It was embarrassing
Can't imagine how Danny Dimes felt in front of millions of people
*2:59* Damn I miss John Madden. *😢*
Actually an impressive compilation, surprised you were able to pull so many clips
Hearing Al Michaels frustration on the broncos play was hilarious
Nfl throwback adding a blooping reel. 👍🏻👏🏻
6:50 that punter with the ankle slap tackle is awesome
Hunter Smith getting back to back entries at 11:00 and refusing to be beat
15:54 G. Smith’s pass was absolutely AMAZING!
6:00 the announcer was spot on - this could have gone down as the best return of all time. to take the lead as the clock expires, is the cherry on the top
Absolutely fantastic video. 9.9/10 just one you missed Eddie Lacey reason for his weight loss stipulation on his Seahawk contract was running out of gas on an easy touchdown with the Packers. Minus that fantastic as always!
First game, First start of his rookie year ... Tyrann Mathieu makes this play, 8:10 ... he was special in AZ and still is !
5:59 is crazy 😂 you have to score after a play like that
Missing from here -- because it was incorrectly ruled a TD -- was a Jerry Rice 50+ yard TD in which he dropped the ball on the 2-yard-line before crossing the goal line. However, the refs ruled it a TD and no one bothered to check the replay.
that is called staying under the betting line
Really got some good ones here for the Chiefs vs the Steelers
