@@Pokiiii62 Yeah. And it definitely fits Goh. Probably the only thing the writers did with Goh that wasn't stupid.
Also, at least from my experience, Goh shipping wasn't really something I saw many people who hate Goh concern themselves with, because it wasn't really a prominent character trait at all. And I was fortunate enough to not have it forced on me by "some members of the community". Personally, the only character that I feel was affected by the shipping fiasco, it's prolly Serena. I don't see how shipping ever came into play for any companion's identity other than Serena. And yeah, it's weird, to put it EXTREMELY lightly. But Pokemon is surprisingly unfiltered when it comes to these things. Remember how many Pokemon have a crush on Ash? Yeah, probably a good thing he's retired from the anime now...

    • @armantrto180

He didn't just ruin Journeys but stupid choices of writers did. Ash's new Pokemon are magically just born and they're strongest team he had. Ash going from winning Alola league which James from TR is Top 8 to becoming strongest trainer in the world. Ash not using older Pokemon. PWC being bad especially Masters 8. Iris becoming champion despite not having any dream of that. He wanted to become Dragon master. If so, why didn't Misty become Champion? She was "older" than Iris. Just because is Iris in the game, doesn't mean she should've become champion. Plus it is also soon. Also, not enough Galar region. Goh had some contribution like catching Legendary, catch mons left and right and being in 2 episodes in which Ash and Pikachu didn't appear. But it is mostly making Ahs unbeatable, after winning no offense trash league that most characters from past would do that with Z Move/Mega. I mean Gladion is strong but not stronger than upgraded older rivals.

@@zomorion9183 I mean that all goes, but if writers have decided that Ash loses to Tobias and Alain, that's fine. They don't deem seem Ash worthy at those times. But if you give Ash win against Gladion in a league that is - let's be honest not good system wise. Don't get me wrong, Gladion is strong trainer but not even close to E4 and in Journeys because of that you go: "Alright, Ash should beat Leon!" That is really stupid.

I honestly hate the fact that they gave Ash two random Kanto Pokémon and a Sinnoh Pokémon which leave him with two ACTUAL new Pokémon being Sirfetch'd and Dracovish. At least with Gengar I can understand cause it can Gigantamax but Lucario and Dragonite shouldn’t be with him at all. The thing is Gengar and Lucario aren’t really random. Gengar is a callback to his Haunter who he gave to Sabrina. It’s like a what if he kept it and evolved it moment. But it’s fully evolved…
And Ash knows aura sensing from the Lucario movie (on which make that movie canon) and used it with Greninja later on. It makes sense for him to have one of his own. Not random.
Now Dragonite was random, but I think it fits well as an Ash Pokémon. Exactly his style of attack with Dragon Dance to boost Attack and Speed.

I think one of the main problems with Goh is simply breaking the laws of Pokémon itself. Since every single time Ash tried to catch a Pokemon without battling it, that he didn’t befriend beforehand or wasn’t a weak little bug, it didn’t work, besides one exception, and Ash would be called out on how stupid that was, meanwhile that just kind of works for Goh. Like he isn’t even using different types of pokeballs which would at least make more sense as to why it was easier (especially since the one time Ash caught a non bug type without battling or befriending, was Totodile, WITH A LURE BALL)

I feel like Journeys as a concept really screwed over Galar and the characters and Pokémon released. Horizons is partially cleaning up the mess, debuting character not seen like Kabu. Pokémon that never got to debut in Journeys like Boltund, Rolycoly, Carkoal, Poltergeist, Barraskewda…all debut in Horizions. Boltund, Blitbug, and Corvisquire debut as minor background characters. Poltergeist and Carkoal are Pokémon on the ship. Rolycoly debuts with Kabu, but you would think Sizzlipede (a Pokémon catchable in his own gym!!!) makes its debut…no…gets no debut.
    Porygon-2, Porygon/
-Z, Acrtovish, Kubfu, Dracozolt only get a brief image. Barraskewda gets absolutely nothing, I’m hopeful Kofu can change that. A lot of other Galar Pokémon debut only beside a trainer for a short scene, like Pinchurchin. And some only debut because of the Gatcha Machine. What happened to the episode that focused on highlighting each mons characteristic. And don’t get me started on the Husui bunch. It’s ridiculous.
Even the important gym leaders and DLC characters are not safe. No Milo, Nessa, Gordie, Melony…where? No gym challenges?
They changed the formula and it didn’t work. They made Goh the center of attention and they traveled region to region so he can collect them all and gather research. His goal was executed poorly. We see no struggles besides Dewgong on captures. Where is the growth of skill when he apparently has hacks in his DNA. Project Mew was a cool concept, but it made Goh the main character while Ash sidelines. Two protagonists clashing each others screentime. Goh should of honestly gotten his own show or something, maybe there would be more storytelling to make him less bland. Them being based in Kanto and wasting time there instead of maybe…the new region!
Nothing in Journeys felt deserved. Ash progressing in battles with cheap plot armor like Ash vs. Drasna, Ash vs. Raihan, Ash vs. Volkner (Motor Drive issue), Ash vs. Steven (Redirecting its Z move’s bolts after Metagross used Agility and dodged the attack). Pokémon that were unfazed or tanked damage well fall to one or two moves. Ash removing Cotton Gaurd’s Defense boost with soaking Altaria in water? Meteor Assault on a Dragon/Fairy is enough to faint it?
Catches don’t feel as earned. We needed more Flygon and Golurk capture moments. Actually fighting the target.
Battles feel forced and he don’t struggle enough. We needed to see more of the octopus/squid smackdown. Progression that felts earned, not forced.
Journeys is pretty flawed…. One of the worse modern Pokémon ever . Style I liked but everything else 🫠

Ok so my opinion before seeing the video:
Yes. Goh was such an annoyance for me, I was never someone that cared too much for doing the Pokedex, so a character with a dream of completing the dex would be something that I wouldn't really care, but I also never care for the pokémon contests in game but I adored them in anime, that's why I love Dawn, May, not Serena. But the anime could do something cool with a mechanic that I don't care about, unfortunately they didn't. Goh was annoying and frustrating, after all he was capturing several pokémon every episode, but what makes he frustrating, at least for me, is that many of the pokémon he got, were all pokémon that I would love to see Ash using, like the Cinderace, Flygon and Scizor and etc. I would prefer personally if Goh had some episodes for him, but we had way more for the old ash companions, like... WE DID NOT SEE MAY OR MAX IN THE ANIME WTF. Oh and captured legendaries, what for me always is a bad thing I always believe that no pokémon Trainer in the anime should have a legendary pokémon, no matter the excuse, legendary s should be only be able to be captured in the games

Just so you know, the true reason why May didn't make an appearence in Pokemon Journeys is because her Japanese VA had received a health problem that prevented her from handling VA work. So if that person couldn't voice that character, then that character wasn't going to appear in the show because of the rule that characters who get created in by people in Japan aren't allowed to be recasted unlike characters who get created by people in other countries. They were thinking that if that VA got well before Journeys ended then they would have May show up in it, but that VA didn't.

I didn't hate Goh, but I dispised how much screentime he was given during Ash's final journey (as the main character) only for him to NOT achieve his endgame; catching Mew!
TBH his goal of catching em' all wasn't all that ridiculous considering that was Ash's goal in the beginning of the series. Gary Oak was kind of the perfect rival for Goh when you really think about it. Gary was about catching em' first and asking questions later. Don't forget that bro had over 200 Pokemon before he entered the Indigo League!
Goh would've done better had Gary appeared earlier in Journeys to inform him of Project Mew. He could've been the reason Goh stopped catching for quantity and focused on training some of the Pokemon he had to build a strong team in order to confront Mew towards the end of the series. Heck, or even pull a Gary once more by rotating his team so he has a strong squad rather than simply a team of 6.
By traveling with Ash, he could then further see the purpose of building strong bonds with your Pokemon. I'd say Goh wasn't a lost cause like Chloe in terms of wasted potential. However, to have him eat up more of the plot with his catching stuff rather than Ash building bonds with his Journeys team or having PWC matches was hard to deal with...
Regardless of how the masses felt about the character, I thought it was a darn shame to NOT have Goh be there in person to watch Ash vs. Leon! WTF was the reasoning for having Chloe there instead of the traveling companion who actually TRAVELED with Ash in this particular series?!
Geez, the only reason I don't completely dispise this character is because he's voiced by the same person who does Remy from Big City Greens...

Chloe's problem was more than anything the fact that she didn't get to have the same kind of focus and attention put into her character because Ash and Goh were treated as the 2 main protagonists for Journeys, likely because they are boys and Pokemon is more associated with being for boys than it is girls. That said, Chloe was interesting when she was first introduced, as they could've built on her not liking Pokemon more and maybe doing something with that, but she got shafted because it apparently would've been too much work to write a third main character into the cast. They could've even possibly given her more screentime in place of the filler that Journeys is known for -- even if her plots were still mostly filler themselves, they could've still been used to give her something more to do instead of largely treating her like she didn't exist. And while she did get some resolution to her character at the end of Journeys, and I personally do think it makes some sense for her, given her main goal was to find out why her Eevee wouldn't evolve, it's still a problem because it mostly comes out of nowhere, and only seems like it was done because the writers suddenly remembered at the last minute that they needed to give her storyline some closure, too. There's also the fact that we never got to learn why exactly her Eevee was unable to evolve, which in my opinion is the biggest disappointment with Chloe as a whole, because it shows that the writers cared that little about her so as to just brush it off and hope no one would notice or care

Goh actually was a good character, his motives were just a bit meh. And his writing was a complete mess.
While i did enjoy his appearance in the anime, i think he would've done a bit better if he was a side character, or better yet, an mc of his own anime. I think being around Ash just limited which pokemon he could've caught in the timeframe of the anime since they're always in the same place together. A travelling character like Gary earlier on would've been a perfect characteristic for him so he could just show up from time to time and update Ash of his progress. I think that way, they could've shown his progress a bit better. Like if he caught this many after travelling to this one location/region and then showing up again later down the line to say he completed this regions dex or something.
Ash and Goh being together for me held both of their stories back. IMO, Ash should've taken the Galar Gym Challenge first and lose to leon before getting another chance again down the line when he enters the World Coronation Series.

But I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times where I was frustrated with the series. I feel like they gave Goh too much attention for a series where Ash is the main character, Pokemon Journeys sometimes made it look like Goh was the main character.
They definitely focused on Goh a lot more throughout the series until the Masters Eight tournament.

  • @matthewkuscienko4616
    @matthewkuscienko4616 Месяц назад +2

I never personally cared much for Goh, mainly because I found him to be boring. A big problem with Goh, and in my opinion the biggest reason why his goal of "catching them all" ultimately comes down to one major thing: the Pokemon that Ash and each of his various companions caught over the course of the series are characters in their own respects, and Goh owning such a huge number of them despite only appearing in one series of the anime as a whole meant that many of them didn't get to be as memorable because they didn't get much characterization. This is particularly problematic with Suicune, in my opinion: this is a Legendary Pokemon, so catching it should've been a MUCH bigger deal than it ultimately was, but not only did it not get to do much after being caught (even though you'd think they would want to do something important or cool with it, because, you know, it's a freaking LEGENDARY POKEMON), but Goh catching it should've been treated as holding more weight than it ultimately did, again, because it is a Legendary Pokemon. Because of this, seeing Goh catch it so easily and randomly not only felt unexciting because it was more or less treated just like any other random Pokemon Goh caught, but it felt underutilized, and therefore could've effortlessly been not added to Journeys because it's capture didn't make a significant difference in the end. To go off on a side tangent quickly, Pokemon being characters is also the same reason why unlike with most people, I'm happy Ash didn't catch the Latias that appeared at the end of the series, because it wouldn't have served much purpose, and doing so would only amount to giving Ash another glorified trophy in the form of a Legendary Pokemon that would do nothing to advance his character in any way; not to mention that Latias wouldn't be seen again after the fact because the series was ending at that point, kind of similar to his Torracat's evolution into Incineroar, really. Looking back at Goh, though, the other major problem I have with him is that, as was mentioned in this video, he more or less got half of the focus because he was made the secondary protagonist -- that said, this idea could've worked, but only if it were done earlier in the series, as that way, Ash and Goh could've each gotten more time to work towards their respective goals and develop as characters more, something that Ash got far more time to do than Goh because he was the main protagonist and had been in the anime since day one. That in mind, the reason why I feel this is a problem is because the series should've focused more on Ash and his goal of defeating Leon and becoming the World Champion: not only is it a more substantial goal with bigger stakes riding on it than simply "catching them all", but even with that aside, Ash being the main protagonist that we the viewers have been following the journey of for over 20 years at that point means that people were going to be more invested in seeing Ash achieve his goal than they would be with Goh, and this is reflected in Ash actually managing to become the World Champion to cap off his long career, while Goh, by contrast, never actually got to catch Mew, despite that being his primary objective throughout all of Journeys. It's for these reasons, I think, why people generally don't like Goh very much, and they are pretty valid in my opinion: Goh was a pretty underwhelming secondary protagonist that took screentime away from the character the audience would rather be the main focus, and he wasn't even allowed to achieve his goal despite becoming the secondary protagonist, which kind of makes his inclusion feel pointless to me at the end of the day.

That Suicune capture made me very, VERY angry to this day! Journeys just blatantly disrespects Legendaries and how they are supposed to be treated. Honestly, the first time Ash encounters Suicune and it helped Ash in the fourth movie was a great moment for it, makes it worthy of being catch by Ash. Suicune’s been my most favorite out of the Legendary Beast of Johto, but seeing that some low-level trainer like Goh captured it and caught it feels like an insult!

Its Not that Goh Ruined Journeys or that he's a Terrible MC, its Not even his Goal being simplistic seeing someone trying to catch them all is Refreshing I think. Its that Project Mew comes out of Nowhere and Lessens the character even Further! We even see that Shiny Hunter guy, would've like to see Ash Trade Noctowl to him then maybe Trade back or something just to help out.

My biggest gripe with goh is that he is basically overpowered at everything he proposes and he doesnt put anything good into the series that other characters dont do, the fact that a normal pokeball unironically becomes a masterball at his hands is insane, ash struggled so much trying to catch pokemons without battling particularly in the first episode and then goh basically a ground 0 trainer does it first try, and dont get me started at the fact that basically mid season go almost caught a zapdos, imagine that happening with ash, he catching a Legendary pokemon who can alter the balance of the natural world mid season, besides goh is a terrible companionship, he has no reason to go with ash other than they are friends, killing the pacing of the series, and dont get me started on how he basically befriended eternatus, an extraterrestial pokemon that could destroy galar and he is just a good guy when goh catches him giving ash and leon a free dynamax, goh could be gone from journeys and the series would be better, the only good thing about goh is his cinderace, it was funny and one of the best pokemon in the series but they could just make ash caught cinderace instead

ooh, giving me a chance to talk about one of my favorite fictional characters lets go!!
So I wanna start by saying that I totally understand why people dislike Goh. Him being a main character absolutely changed the formula of the Pokémon anime, and I agree that the writing wasn't the best. I think there are lots of changes they could've made while still having Goh as an MC and make it work better, but of course that's out of the question now.
Goh as a character, I PERSONALLY find EXTREMELY relatable. Certain episodes like the one where Sobble evolved into Drizzile really hit home for me, and I even got emotional watching that scene where he talked to it. I also think that Goh can be pretty funny, especially when he's bouncing off other characters, like Ash. He is DEFINETLY neurodivergent coded and that adds to the relatability. I of course know that he isn't written the best, but I think that if they were going for said neurodivergence, they definitely nailed it. Like I said, if the episodes and the pacing of Journeys was structured better, I think people would actually like Goh a lot more. Goh is a big nerd who grew up antisocial, and if that doesn't sound like anyone else aside from me then I'd be pretty shocked. I enjoy how passionate he is about his goal, even if the goal includes lots of plot holes. Just like Ash, he's determined, and never gives up, and since that's a character trait I've always enjoyed in Ash, it makes sense I'd like it in Goh too. A really funny aspect of his character that doesn't get pointed out a lot is how unathletic he is. It's a lot like Clemont from XY, but not as much attention is drawn to it. It always gets me to chuckle seeing the characters have to go down a hill or something, and then Goh is in the background stumbling/falling, or climbing very slowly and carefully while Ash just jumps down. That could just be me having a weird sense of humor for all I know, but if it makes me enjoy the show I'm watching, then so be it.
I will say that, as an English dub watcher, I definitely have a bias, since Goh is voiced by my personal favorite voice actor, Zeno Robinson. That man KNOWS how to voice emotional scenes (see Hunter from TOH if you don't believe me lol), and he's in general such a talented person.
As for the shipping aspect, I'd be a liar if I said I didn't enjoy it. I think it's cute, and the idea of it and their opposing character traits can make for some fun potential interactions. I make fanart of them every now and then, and get lots of enjoyment out of it (side note, Goh is a VERY fun character to draw in my opinion). I don't understand why people try insisting that it's canon though, because it clearly isn't, and IDK where they got that info from haha. Of course, I get why people don't like the ship. They clearly work great as just being close friends, and I'm glad they stayed that way. I don't expect everyone to like a ship, and I respect others opinions as long as they aren't being rude about it or shoving it down people's throats, and being respectful to people who DO like the ship.
Fans of Goh can get intense at times, but that applies to literally any aspect of any fandom. I REALLY hate when people generalize a group of people over a few stand out bad ones. I've seen people get attacked online for liking the ship of Ash and Goh when they aren't doing anything weird/bad or hurting anyone, and that harassment is completely unnecessary. Of course, if a person IS being a weirdo, especially when shipping is involved, they should be called out, but do so without grouping the rest of the fans in with them
IN CONCLUSION: Totally get it if you don't like Goh (or his ship with Ash), but judging and attacking people over it is stupid as hell. Being mocked over simply enjoying something is actually the worst sometimes, and I'll never understand why people do it. I find Goh an enjoyable, fun character who I will always love to see and project onto, as I find him incredibly relatable. If you read this whole thing, wow. I appreciate it lmao. Sorry for making you read an almost 19 year old's opinion on a silly little guy.

The issue I have with Goh is that it felt like the writers didn’t know what to do with him once Raboot evolved into Cinderace, while there are moments with him after that point but had they send him off after that arc was done and given that to another character like Chole or to Ash’s journeys team to put them more in the spotlight. The series may have been more well liked.

For me Goh was, as his name implies, a Pokemon Go player, in contrast with Ash being a "classic rpg" Pokemon player. That way, Goh makes sense, as in Pokemon Go you mainly mindlessly catch every Pokemon you see to keep them in a virtual safe, trade them to get something you cannot catch, or discretely turn them into candies. He even actually uses the Pokemon Go spinning ball technique.

Goh would be better if he had his own series and didn’t share one with Ash, catch them all is Pokémon’s trade mark so they could of had him be the main character of Ash retired.
Then again that would have made Liko not exist and we can’t have that.
Plus people would be mad if Goh caught a pokemon and he barely used it like his Cubone. People don’t like Ash’s Palpatoad and Boldore because they barely got screen time. While people love Greninja and Infernape because of their screen time and the attention they got.
Imagine if Ash caught a Dragonite or Gengar, Dracovish and Sir’fetched just for them to barely get screen time while a Lucario takes the spotlight…. Oh wait

I honestly agree with the shipping part itself.
The only good things about Goh's shipping with Ash is the LGBTQ+ diversity and the moments they have together.
Other than that, Goh is not worthy in being Ash's romantic partner.
Goh is just a generic money farm noob for Pokémon who basically robbed goals and screentime especially from Ash, Serena, Brock, and even Misty.
The Satogou community itself is INSANELY TOXIC. Some people shove their headcanons and thoughts that it is canon when it isn't. They're also spiteful towards other ships.
Amourshipping and Pokeshipping communities are toxic as well. (If you're trying to spite me)
Just because there are official posts and behind the scenes stuff about Satogou, doesn't make it canon unless it is shown in the official show itself.
There are official posts about Amourshipping from animators and voice actors, would you say it's canon? Exactly! No!
Shipping wars about Satogou and Amourshipping are happening between the official Pokémon creators/voice actors themselves without any arguments.
It's best if you don't ship Ash with anyone until he turns into an actual teenager, not even Serena or Misty.
If anything, I really hope Ash ages up and he ends up with someone more worthy like Serena, Misty, or even Dawn. Just one.
And I hope Goh ends up with someone who isn't forced to have a relationship with him like Chloe.
If you like the ship OR Goh, then I won't kill you and I'll leave you to do your thing.

I feel the biggest issue with, Goh is that he's sort of the embodiment what was wrong with Journeys. Journeys wanted to do something different with how it progressed it's plot but the issue lied in the fact that it felt so unfocused since they're set up was essentially having Ash and, Goh travel the whole world and do whatever the episode demanded at that moment. It's because of this that, Galar is almost completely ignored with the show barely ever giving time to explore the region because they feel the need to go the other ones so that they can have, Goh catch the pokemon there. What makes this worse is that this resulted in so many of the characters in sword and Shield not making an appearance, I don't even think, Bede was ever even mentioned and with how in the games, Galar treats the gym challenge like a massive sporting event compared to the other regions, you don't really get to see that as since we have the masters tournament in place of the standard gym challenge and said tournament is happening in all the regions it makes, Galar seem like any other standard romp when we actually do get to see it. Goh, isn't what ruined Journeys he's simply the poster child for the shows issues and thus people tend to blame him for everything that was wrong with it when really he's more like just another problem in the grand scheme of things

The sun and moon cast had more than double the amount of companions from the trial captains of akala, to Lillie and gladion, kiawe and Sophicles. But despite the large cast all of them had lovable funny traits especially kiawe. Honestly if this was gonna be ash’s last series (ik a lot of people are gonna hate me for this) but having an old companion like Gary, Brock, Sophicles, Serena, or even Iris or Cilan would have been great. All of them each had a way better relationship with ash than goh or Chloe ever had.

  • @Miguel92398
    @Miguel92398 Месяц назад +1

To me, I think the purpose of Goh's existence is to promote more on Pokemon Go instead of Sword and Shield. The premise of the anime is to watch Ash and Goh journeying across all the regions and meet new and old Pokemon. The fact that Goh just chuck a ball to any mon with a single Pokeball is absurd. Hell, there's an episode dedicated to catch all the Kanto bug types and they didn't even bothering to continue this trend likely because it was heavily rushed to try and promote Sword and Shield and its DLCs.
I could see a potential if the writers are at least closer to the game developers to know the game and its contents beforehand. But also the writers wanted to conclude Ash's journey now that he became a regional champion after 20+ years because why would he wanted to journey to another region and participate in another regional league.
Maybe, just maybe, if writers had ideas to make Goh the new protagonist, having most of the series focusing on Goh and his character development, while Ash being a mentor to Goh while him training for the World Championship and extend it until Scarlet and Violet, it wouldn't be a bad idea at all. But no, with all the 2 weeks break and writer scarcity, it's difficult to have Journeys to keep up, especially during the pandemic.

  • @rockstarbonnie4508

Well despite being a good series I feel that the series would've been better as a sword and shield series, you know gyms, companions, few pokemon, tournament. I like the part where ash becomes a champion, but it would've been better if it was after his trip to galar where he travels kanto and realizes there's a champion tournament instead of being rushed. Plus even if Goh and Chloe became his partners in galar, it would've made sense if Chloe caught more pokemon, Goh should've got less attention and starters, team rocket should've got their old pokemon back early on with James cathing moropeko afterward, and they didn't reply on filler episodes without catching a single pokemon. I mean Goh was in places with multiple pokemon spawning, yet he only caught a few from that specific place, he was in a forest and all he caught was a ariados and pineco.

Great video! I do agree that Goh (and Chloe) were sadly victims of circumstance. They were given a bad hand.
Had they got a LGPE or SwSh side series like how Alain and Mairin got in XY, then I'm sure they'd be more liked.
The road to his goal was stupid given the anime mythos, he doesn't even meet Willow or the actual GO Leaders.
Had Goh met Gary in 2019, he would've course-corrected his mindset since Gary had 60 total (200 via repeats).
Heck, he could've rivalled Leaf since she aims for Mewtwo. Heck, Gary MET Mewtwo and that went unaddressed.
Goh isn't given the opportunity to do Safari Zone Challenges like how May and Dawn did Contests to be engaging.
Or even use the Incenses, Berries and Modules from the mobile game. Items that are Brock, Cilan, Clemont coded.
All of his mons are caught in regular PokéBalls because the staff knew they couldn't keep track of 113 (RIP 151).
I still believe Goh should've battle the Galar gyms to prove his worth to Peony to take him on Legendary Raid Battles.
It would've been great prepwork for Mew. And instead of Eevee, let Chloe get Kubfu, a Pokémon who too is undecided.
They could've explored different pathways still. A Pokémon who needs discipline is a hand-meets-glove for a student.
Ash's final team should've been Pikachu, Gengar (Sabrina), Pidgeot (Mega), Lapras and Primeape (evo in MPM).
Mimey, Butterfree and Tyranitar rotate as the 6th member. Let Ash's last hurrah be him bringing his releases back.
This means Melmetal would've been his last catch - an IRL mon (GO) from Kanto (LGPE) who can GMAX (SwSh).
Liko and Roy are very much Ash split into 2 (emotional Pokémon understanding VS practical Pokémon battling).
While Dot is a do-over of Goh and Chloe since she has one's smarts and tech savvy and another's tritagonist role.

My issue with Goh is the same as a lot of other people: He catches for numbers. In every other series (including this one for Ash) the main characters are given their pokemon over time, so they can bond with them. Every pokemon has its own personality, and one of the best parts of the show is watching how they interact. With Goh, though, he only actually bonds with 3 or 4 of his pokemon, which makes his new captures feel less important. It feels like you shouldn't get too invested when he catches a new pokemon, because it's just going to sit around the lab anyway.
