I realized this season had seriously left an impact when the gen 7 games created the Battle Bond form for Greninja specifically based on the anime. That was wild to see back when it was first announced, and it felt like Ash's Greninja had truly cemented itself as legitimately iconic.

Ash technically now that his story is finally over as a character had a very realistic arc for a professional career. Having middling success for a couple of years winning a few minors or sub-majors. Placing well in competitions either cut short by inexperience or just didn't have the winning recipe for the tournament he entered (Which is true to life) I think XYZ was Ash at his technical best but it stripped away his sort of love for the game, he was too serious, Losing the Kalos League hit hard, and Alola gave him the chance to reset, rediscover his love for Pokémon, and grow in a different way. so he could enter the World Stage as a complete trainer.
