Megas may have been broken and unhealthy competitively, but the ORAS days were peak from a casual standpoint. I see fakemon megas to this day, and mega evolution is (as far as I know) the most popular "favorite gimmick." X and Y may be among the least finished games in the franchise, but they at least did that right. Also, fairy type was probably a good thing overall since it counters some otherwise absolutely cracked type combos.
You didn't mention that gmax charizard, venusaur, blastoise and coalossel could take out 1/3 of your opponents teams total hp by using their signature moves once with the passive effect
Again mega rayquaza broke the meta so bad they had to build a whole new tier list to contain it and so far mega evolution is the only gimmick to reappear in another generation hell they even gave ash his own version of it and said version has been featured in two games Also don't forget z moves came from one of the most powerful lore pokemon
This is the gimmicks (in my opinion) on how balanced they were 1- Dynamax 2- Terastalize 3- Z-Moves 4- Mega Mega Pokémon are a cool idea in theory but don’t translate well especially when you make 4 objectively better than all of the others you were either using Mawile Kangashan Rayquaz Gengar or you were using a rogue strategy. Z-Moves are just obnoxious to deal with a move that are unpredictable that can one shot you through protect is absurdly annoying to deal with. Tera Pokémon are hard to predict but the cost of failing to predict isnt taking absurd amounts of damage or losing a Pokémon. Dynamax was across the board good every Pokémon could use it and it would make 1 Pokémon OP for a short period of time Also I placed Dynamax ahead of Tera solely because of Terapagos and Ogerpon throwing everything I said out the window and going straight back to megas
From a competitive point of view Tera is no doubt my favorite. It’s very flexible since any pokemon can use it without needing a item and it’s more defensive nature opens up a lot of mons to do well. I will however say that open team sheets did a lot of heavy lifting for this one. From a concept point of view Maga‘s rain supreme since new designs and great anime implementation make them the most purely cool gimmick out there. I jumped for joy when they where revealed for legends ZA. Especially since that game will probably be single player. I quite liked Z moves in the anime but Dynamax is the one I care least for. In singles especially it’s pretty horribly designed and new forms are generally done better by mega evolutions. When a single new move and more hp is all that separates you from your base form it just doesn’t feel as cool. Also, respect on that ranked rating. I personally don’t take things to seriously once I reach Master Ball tier, just having fun and collecting ribbons, but around 600 is definitely a rating to be proud of.
I can't wait to see what gimmick the next regions will be that will power up my Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent. Only to further stack another gimmick on it hypotheically. No one shall ever match it's power of hypothetical stacked gimmicks
Imagine if we made Dragon Ascent a 100 bp no drawback move that deals double damage to Mega Pokemon. Similar to how Behemoth Blade, Behemoth Bash, and Dynamax Cannon double in power on Dynamaxed Pokemon.
This was a very nice watch. Your style breathes life into the very stale "pokemon fun facts" genre of videos. I really like the way you write these videos. Perhaps instead of using valuable time in the first few minutes of the video explaining each gimmick, you could have explained what a gimmick was briefly, and gone into detail for each gimmick when its entry came up. I used to write scripts and edit videos for youtubers who did that kinda stuff and I know first hand that the average person gives up halfway or near the 66% mark on a video, so it's important to put your meat near the beginning or the middle. I just wanted to offer a little third person perspective because I want more people to discover you so we can get more of these.

I find it funny how pokemon fans favorite battle gimmick is just a mechanic that was copied from digimon. The mega evolution gimmick being so overpowered makes sense since digimon is overpowered when compared to pokemon.
how is z moves the most broken gimmick when gems exists?? gems boosts a move (depending on type) by 1.5x and you can have multiple of them on your team compared to when you could only use one. yet again they dont come with broken status moves

Nice video, but I have a question What makes z moves a lot more of a suprise factor than tera? Besides, tera, especially a desensive tera type, can probably do the same thing z moves can: suprise one shots, openings for stat boosts, etc. However, theyre even more powerful since now you have to deal with a pokemon with even more awkard weak spots, like tera fairy kingambit. Not saying tera isnt the most unfair gimmick, since there is still counterplay to this, but still. Also, nice take on putting dynamax at last.
The thing is that z moves have more variables than terras. What z move is it, who's gonna use it, and is it an attacking z move or a stat buff z move. The many variables made it a guessing game. Also thanks

Dynamax is nothing but a combo of x moves and megas. The were really lazy with dynamax
