The XYZ Saga is probably one of my only time's nostalgia doesn't bait me in thinking it was good, it was actually as good as i remenber when i was kid, many people say this was the peak of pokemon anime in both story telling and animation and i can totally see why.
Not only XYZ has the best Pokemon League Animation Fights the Whole XYZ Series including the Fillers are the best not perfect but still better then the whole Journeys Series

I have to agree that nothing is perfect. To be honest the battle between Ash vs Sawyer and Alain is unforgettable because the battle animation was intensely incredible, except the lost in the final round from the Kalos... Also, I knew that it was from the director who did wrote about the battle animation to be a bit lack like standing and not moving around but that explains why the Kalos League is so good. Because I love it, especially the sub episode, it really give some hype

No wonder why the XYZ anime is considered to be everyone's favourite. Great storytelling and characterization, Budget destroying animation, fan favourites like Ash Greninja. And of course everyone's favourite controversial Pokegirl: SERENA!!!!
For me there's actually another point which makes the Kalos League Arc that much better: The SOUNDTRACK, and more particularly the Soundtrack of the Japanese Original (Which is sadly missing in the international localization due to licensing) I have actually tracked down the Episode of the Second Half of Ash vs. Sawyer in original Japanese JUST because of the Soundtrack. For Context: The Japanese Opening of XYZ is much more intense than in the Dub, it's a full on Rock piece, with lyrics, where the international version is merely an instrumental allusion to it. When the battle reaches the tipping point and Ash goes into Sync with Greninja, in the japanese version, a reprisal of that Opening is played, and the song is actually embellished with pauses and accented chords to directly underline the choreography of the ensuing Duel between Ash-Greninja and Mega-Sceptile. So you can hear the blows landing IN THE MUSIC. And finally it all comes to a head with a reprisal of the Lyrics "いくZ" ("ikuse" meaning something like "So, Let's GO!") It is SO much more epic than anything else in the series. I legitimately cannot watch it without tearing up, it's THAT epic. If you have the chance to watch the original version of this Episode do it, even if you don't know a peep of Japanese, You will know exactly what's going on, because everything, animation, choreography and music come together to carry it.
Here are my thoughts, that I'll be editing as I watch this. While this league overall was good, I actually rank this as my second favorite league, it only loses to the Alola League. I do agree with you that more than half of the characters should not have been in a league, but the whole point of the league wasn't to just crown the first league champion, it was to help the trainers of Alola grow. Kalos does have two things holding it back from the top spot, to me and a few others, it feels rushed due to skipping all the way to the semi-finals, that's not necessarily a bad thing as you said. However, Astrid has actually beaten Ash in their only battle prior, so her battle being only Hawlucha KO-ing Mega Absol felt stupid. Another thing, and also why I think Ash losing to Alain made sense, funny enough, was Ash's Greninja himself taking away training time the rest of the team needed, and Ash relying too much on Greninja in the third season.
As I was strolling around Walmart today, my eyes caught Pokemon XY on the shelves, and for ten minutes as I felt like SpongeBob, saying to myself “I don’t need it… I NEED IT!”, I walked out with the first 96 episodes on dvd. No, I will certainly not have the time to rewatch this show like I did as a kid years ago, but maybe picking out an episode every now and then will be very charming, and I love physically collecting media I love. (Also, it’s nearly impossible to stream XYZ anywhere nowadays without pirating, which I don’t mind, but still a hurdle.) Plus, now I will have the privilege of tormenting my children one day as they watch all episodes, fall in love with the characters, only for them to go off… Hopefully we’ll have a character reunion on by then tho? Nonetheless, nearly 10 years later, XYZ is still making buck off fans like me. Love this series like no other. Gonna have to grab XYZ’s last episodes and movies soon!
The Xyz league stands clearly above the rest for me… unless your talking about the first half. The pacing is a little off but I guess it was more than worth it if that’s what enabled them to work on the team Flare arc and make it the best it could be.
All of the xyz season was building up to this with the fights being culmination of each of the characters. For the masters 8, there really was no reason to make it a tournament format, like they could've just done what they've been doing for the rest of the show with designated battle dates and build each fight from there. Plus with almost no characterization from most of the masters 8, the only notable one being the iris and Cynthia match up with how for a time during black and white cynthia acted as a mentor to iris. They really wasted characters that every pokemon fan has wanted to know more about since the games barely give anything to us about these guys.

All points made are very valid, quality over quantity in my eyes is what makes a show or any form of animation amazing, I just finished watching the masters 8 and I feel the same way, every fight apart from the Ash vs leon, and Iris vs cynthia made me feel like I was on the edge of my seat, the other fights weren't memorable (Justice for Alain). I especially felt that the last 2 fight in the xyz league felt memorable, and It seriously felt like watching infinity war for the fist time, left on a cliff hanger, just wanting more. That's why I can keep going back to watch the xy league as opposed to just finishing the master 8 years after It came out. Ina nutshell for me, alola league, too many characters that imo shouldn't even be in the league, master 8 was ok, just alot of overpowered characters, Kalos league beginning was rushed but for the right reason, to focus on the characters I actually care about, and seeing the growth between Ash, Sawyer, and Alan, and all their pokemon, just absolute cinema. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Journeys could've been the best Pokemon Series. Ash traveling around the world, the Masters 8 Tournament, Project Mew, Goh, Chloe, they all had limitless opportunities to be peak. The pieces of the puzzle were right there, but the show just refused to put the pieces together! I understand that there were a lot of issues behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean I'm magically gonna love it. I could go on, but I don't want this to be a novel.
We still were animation on how fast the Pokémon move that Ash Greninja was quick on his web feet well he’s crazy fast after all the time that the enemy she got really better is that Pikachu vs Tapu Koko with Ash vs Kukui although this series is not perfect it did honest with youhave an enjoyable league Ash vs Paul had a Lotta weight with Infernape vs Electivire A fantastic series with a good league and for Ash vs Leon with Pikachu vs Charizard I do agree I think that battle is good but honestly everything else was a bit sloppy to meet you the only none Pikachu battle that I actually care for was G-max Gengar vs Inteleon because Gengar is Ash’s only Journeys Mon that I really like in my opinion plus I don’t like Journeys and yeah I do love XY and Z that includes Serena and Greninja especially Greninja and Ash vs Alain was great honestly I would’ve preferred it if Ash Greninja defeated Mega Charizard X but other than that amazing battle with the animation and Ash vs Sawyer what’s amazing is with the best battle in XY Series Ash Greninja vs Mega Sceptile was peak N nicely fluid with Greninja Water Shuriken and Sceptile’s Leaf storm clash in my opinion Ash vs Sawyer was is the best they spectacular battle to a spectacular series
See I enjoyed dp but xyz was just something else. Even as of today its the only season thst reminds me of so much nostalgic moments from this specific season. Xyz is just peak pokemon
I think you could fix it feeling rush with a few changes that shouldn't increase the load on the production. 1. Have Ash fight Tierno instead of Shota. Tierno and Ash had already fought a bunch before, Tierno was an enjoyable character overall and you could write some really interesting gimmicky battle around his rain dance team for Ash to overcome. Tierno vs Shota already looked good so I think that production effort would translate well into Ash vs Tierno instead. We really didn't need to see Shota have a battle that was effectively just there to showcase Mega Sceptile having lightning rod in the end. Seeing Mega Sceptile for the first time vs Ash would have made even more impactful if anything. 2. Have a filler episode between the tierno battle and shota battle (between XY&Z33 and XY&Z34 that is). Could remove that random Clemont filler in XY&Z31 to make time for the production schedule for it. That filler episode could have stuff like showing Shota prep for his battle with Ash, Ash talking with Oak, small scenes here and there of other battles being fought that day, perhaps some team flare stuff like Lysandre arriving to the luminose conference arena etc. Nothing that should be any more demanding than that Clemont filler episode from the production team.
I'm late but here are my thoughts. XYZ league IS NOT PERFECT. it's the third best IMO. The animation was good for pokemon AT THE TIME but that was it. Alain Vs Ash ended in Ash losing so rewatching everytime Ash says hes going to win, I'm just like no you're not. Like the fights in the semis are okay, but it was rushed fasted than fast food serving you a standard burger. Alola League and M8 Tournament had more memorable fight than this IMO. over all XYZ league for its time was hype but now it's overrated as the best. My top 3 Leagues/Tournament arcs are. XYZ/UA/UJ. Or XY / SM / JN. Xyz and Alola leagues are good and great respectively. But the best tournament in the anime tops these leagues and its not even close is WCS M8T. But thats just my opinion of XYZ league and why the league and tournament that come after are better.
I completely understand your opinion, but I don't understand why you mentioned the fact that Ash losing against alain ruins the battle? Because you already know he's going to lose? This could be said for any other league fight, you already know leon vs ash is going to go in ash's favor so what's the point your trying to make? Plus I do believe the animation goes hand and hand with the ash vs leon fight, saying that it was only good at the time is like saying gurren lagaan animation was good at the time yet many anime still don't even hold a candle to that kind of animation. I believe the xyz league holds up very much so only behind the leon fight imo
@Pokiiii62 The reason I say that is, It was pushed EXTRA hard on Kalos that Ash was going to win, so to know he is not is different to other leagues where he's excited but they didn't push it as hard as Kalos. I also just find it funny he says he's going to win EVERY EPISODE when he not. Fair if that's your opinion. And well for its time XYZ Animation was good but Alola's was more fluid then XYZ due to art Style change, yeah it's still good I just prefer Alola and JN's smoothness. And Ash vs Leon was special animation that had more staff than normal working on it, that's why it surpasses it for me other than I just think it looks better than even XYZ or the movies even. Hope this explains it! :)
While the XYZ league was good, it's not my top league. The animation was good, and the battle with Sawyer was enjoyable. The big problem with this league is that I didn't care for the Ash vs. Alain match. Problem one was that going into the final, I knew that Ash was going to lose. My reason was that it's Ash Ketchum. He always loses these battles. When you know the outcome of a fight it's hard to get invested in. Not saying the match wasn't good, but it also has a few problems. Next, I just don't care for Ash and Alain's rivalry. There's just nothing that enjoyable about the two. I'm not saying they need the same thing as Ash had with Pual. Still, if there was just something more going on between the two I feel like I would have cared more. Now, the XYZ season is good, but it still feels like it was lacking something. Maybe I'm right, and maybe I'm wrong. Still, that's just my thoughts. Also, there might have been other things going on behind the scenes that messed up Journeys.
I really don't know how you could think ash was going to lose imo. This is the first time ash has even gotten 2nd place in a league before, so the fact he was so close to the win made you think he actually had a chance. Not to mention he fought alain previously twice so winning the final fight would make a lot of sense. I personally love alain's character because he wasn't a jerk to ash and instead it was just 2 trainers who were beyond op going at it. But I respect your opinion friend, good analysis 👍
@@Pokiiii62 Yes, there was a good amount of evidence to support that Ash would win. Such as Ash got to the finals, Ash never defeated Alanin, and the title of the episode were all good points. However, while there was good evidence, there was plenty of evidence to prove that Ash would lose. The top one being is Ash is supposed to lose these events. Sometimes Ash loses in a heated battle, and other times to defeated in the worst way. Rebmer Ash has lost because his Charizard wouldn't listen to him, he lost to a dumb trainer who made so many mistakes, and of course, the trainer who had nothing but legendary Pokemon. I have other points about why Ash was going to lose, but him always losing is a good enough point. You should only consider the chances that someone will lose. Especially if that person is Ash Ketchum. I also liked Alain's character, and I thought his journey was well-made. Heck, I was hoping he wouldn't be in XYZ and was just doing his own thing. While it's fine to have a friendly rival the thing is Ash has tonnes of rivals who are friendly. It just doesn't make Alain stand out from the other rivals, and being OP is not a good reason either. I'm fine if these two never battle again.
Yeah hands down Number 1# Similar to how Pokemon games Black 2 & White 2 were considered an ebd of an era Xyz anime gave us an era on one series raised our hopes for the future only to disappoint I was honestly tweaking after finishing everything up to Xyz, Black and white sucked Xyz saved. My favourite match of the Kalos League was definitely Ash vs. Sawyer, but I can see why fans are disappointed of Ash losing the finals to Alain (which could have been his first ever league victory). Are you going to talk about the Alola League next?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Journeys could've been the best Pokemon Series. Ash traveling around the world, the Masters 8 Tournament, Project Mew, Goh, Chloe, they all had limitless opportunities to be peak. The pieces of the puzzle were right there, but the show just refused to put the pieces together! I understand that there were a lot of issues behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean I'm magically gonna love it. I could go on, but I don't want this to be a novel.
i literally watched xy and xyz back to back 2 time and it hurts to clench my fist to the final fight also it was really good.

We still were animation on how fast the Pokémon move that Ash Greninja was quick on his web feet well he’s crazy fast after all the time that the enemy she got really better is that Pikachu vs Tapu Koko with Ash vs Kukui although this series is not perfect it did honest with youhave an enjoyable league Ash vs Paul had a Lotta weight with Infernape vs Electivire A fantastic series with a good league and for Ash vs Leon with Pikachu vs Charizard I do agree I think that battle is good but honestly everything else was a bit sloppy to meet you the only none Pikachu battle that I actually care for was G-max Gengar vs Inteleon because Gengar is Ash’s only Journeys Mon that I really like in my opinion plus I don’t like Journeys and yeah I do love XY and Z that includes Serena and Greninja especially Greninja and Ash vs Alain was great honestly I would’ve preferred it if Ash Greninja defeated Mega Charizard X but other than that amazing battle with the animation and Ash vs Sawyer what’s amazing is with the best battle in XY Series Ash Greninja vs Mega Sceptile was peak N nicely fluid with Greninja Water Shuriken and Sceptile’s Leaf storm clash in my opinion Ash vs Sawyer was is the best they spectacular battle to a spectacular series
See I enjoyed dp but xyz was just something else. Even as of today its the only season thst reminds me of so much nostalgic moments from this specific season. Xyz is just peak pokemon
The only pokemon battles that can match XYZ were Ash vs Kukui, Ash vs Leon, and Orange vs Ethan from Alan Becker. (Yes im counting that)

I think you could fix it feeling rush with a few changes that shouldn't increase the load on the production.
1. Have Ash fight Tierno instead of Shota. Tierno and Ash had already fought a bunch before, Tierno was an enjoyable character overall and you could write some really interesting gimmicky battle around his rain dance team for Ash to overcome. Tierno vs Shota already looked good so I think that production effort would translate well into Ash vs Tierno instead. We really didn't need to see Shota have a battle that was effectively just there to showcase Mega Sceptile having lightning rod in the end. Seeing Mega Sceptile for the first time vs Ash would have made even more impactful if anything.
2. Have a filler episode between the tierno battle and shota battle (between XY&Z33 and XY&Z34 that is). Could remove that random Clemont filler in XY&Z31 to make time for the production schedule for it. That filler episode could have stuff like showing Shota prep for his battle with Ash, Ash talking with Oak, small scenes here and there of other battles being fought that day, perhaps some team flare stuff like Lysandre arriving to the luminose conference arena etc. Nothing that should be any more demanding than that Clemont filler episode from the production team.

I'm late but here are my thoughts.
XYZ league IS NOT PERFECT.
it's the third best IMO.
The animation was good for pokemon AT THE TIME but that was it.
Alain Vs Ash ended in Ash losing so rewatching everytime Ash says hes going to win, I'm just like no you're not.
Like the fights in the semis are okay, but it was rushed fasted than fast food serving you a standard burger.
Alola League and M8 Tournament had more memorable fight than this IMO.
over all XYZ league for its time was hype but now it's overrated as the best.
My top 3 Leagues/Tournament arcs are.
XYZ/UA/UJ.
Or XY / SM / JN.
Xyz and Alola leagues are good and great respectively.
But the best tournament in the anime tops these leagues and its not even close is WCS M8T.
But thats just my opinion of XYZ league and why the league and tournament that come after are better.
I completely understand your opinion, but I don't understand why you mentioned the fact that Ash losing against alain ruins the battle? Because you already know he's going to lose?
This could be said for any other league fight, you already know leon vs ash is going to go in ash's favor so what's the point your trying to make?
Plus I do believe the animation goes hand and hand with the ash vs leon fight, saying that it was only good at the time is like saying gurren lagaan animation was good at the time yet many anime still don't even hold a candle to that kind of animation. I believe the xyz league holds up very much so only behind the leon fight imo
@Pokiiii62 The reason I say that is, It was pushed EXTRA hard on Kalos that Ash was going to win, so to know he is not is different to other leagues where he's excited but they didn't push it as hard as Kalos.
I also just find it funny he says he's going to win EVERY EPISODE when he not.

And well for its time XYZ Animation was good but Alola's was more fluid then XYZ due to art Style change, yeah it's still good I just prefer Alola and JN's smoothness.
And Ash vs Leon was special animation that had more staff than normal working on it, that's why it surpasses it for me other than I just think it looks better than even XYZ or the movies even.

While the XYZ league was good, it's not my top league. The animation was good, and the battle with Sawyer was enjoyable. The big problem with this league is that I didn't care for the Ash vs. Alain match. Problem one was that going into the final, I knew that Ash was going to lose. My reason was that it's Ash Ketchum. He always loses these battles. When you know the outcome of a fight it's hard to get invested in. Not saying the match wasn't good, but it also has a few problems.
Next, I just don't care for Ash and Alain's rivalry. There's just nothing that enjoyable about the two. I'm not saying they need the same thing as Ash had with Pual. Still, if there was just something more going on between the two I feel like I would have cared more.
Now, the XYZ season is good, but it still feels like it was lacking something. Maybe I'm right, and maybe I'm wrong. Still, that's just my thoughts. Also, there might have been other things going on behind the scenes that messed up Journeys.
I really don't know how you could think ash was going to lose imo. This is the first time ash has even gotten 2nd place in a league before, so the fact he was so close to the win made you think he actually had a chance. Not to mention he fought alain previously twice so winning the final fight would make a lot of sense. I personally love alain's character because he wasn't a jerk to ash and instead it was just 2 trainers who were beyond op going at it. But I respect your opinion friend, good analysis 👍
@@Pokiiii62 Yes, there was a good amount of evidence to support that Ash would win. Such as Ash got to the finals, Ash never defeated Alanin, and the title of the episode were all good points. However, while there was good evidence, there was plenty of evidence to prove that Ash would lose. The top one being is Ash is supposed to lose these events. Sometimes Ash loses in a heated battle, and other times to defeated in the worst way. Rebmer Ash has lost because his Charizard wouldn't listen to him, he lost to a dumb trainer who made so many mistakes, and of course, the trainer who had nothing but legendary Pokemon. I have other points about why Ash was going to lose, but him always losing is a good enough point. You should only consider the chances that someone will lose. Especially if that person is Ash Ketchum.
I also liked Alain's character, and I thought his journey was well-made. Heck, I was hoping he wouldn't be in XYZ and was just doing his own thing. While it's fine to have a friendly rival the thing is Ash has tonnes of rivals who are friendly. It just doesn't make Alain stand out from the other rivals, and being OP is not a good reason either. I'm fine if these two never battle again.
