I put stainless steel counter sink bolts and nuts on mine better finish=screws can strip the threads in the plastic ie s/s bolts /nuts a lot flatter hatch too

Pro tip: Take a hole punch (The standard office type designed for paper, or a grommet tool, or a leather belt punch will all work fine - but if you dont have any of those available just make one out of a hollow tube that you sharpen inside and out with sandpaper) and use that to pre-punch out holes in the foam gasket for your fasteners. I know it seems simple, but failing to do so could result in a snagged gasket when drilling the pilot holes or driving the screws in that has a chance of ripping the gasket and making it more susceptible to water leakage. Sure... it wont cause damage 100% of the time if you dont prep the holes, but due to the multiple mounting screws and since most kayaks have at least two hatches - thats alot of room for error!!
Dont get me wrong, if you installed it without this step you may be fine, but while doing it if you have the time and the means to do so, its best to prep it out and do it correctly!

I noticed the flexing of the topof the kayak, integrity slighty affected. When I do mine I plan on installing pivots on 1/2 pvc with rubber furniture leg protectors
