    Little tip for a hole saw run in reverse on plastic

    • @seakayaklife
      @seakayaklife  2 месяца назад

      That is a good tip. We actually tried that for a bit but it generated so much heat that it started to melt the plastic. It might have been ok on the actual boat since it's a much harder version of polyethylene, but we didn't like the "all in" one shot you get with a hole saw. That dremel attachment was so easy to control and I'm a big believer in cutting slowly and leave yourself a way out!

    I have the P&H Scorpio Mk2. All 4 hatches leaked like sieves from the get go, particularly the rear day hatch. The Kayaksport hatch lids do not conform with the moulded plastic rims. Your new day hatch will be watertight because you have a hatch rim that is designed for a hatch lid. Your decision to accept the yellow Valkrie and retro fit a day hatch will prove to be a great decision. Well done. I do enjoy your videos.....Peter

      Thanks Peter for the info. Now I'm worried about my hatch leaking. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the feedback

      @@seakayaklife Thanks for your response. I must mention though, that all my water intrusions were after surfing and rolling sessions. I see on one of your earlier videos at Tybee Island you guys doing just that. For general paddling around I am sure that your hatches will remain quite dry. By the way, P&H were exceedingly helpful and provided me with replacement hatch lids, but the lid was not the issue of course. I tried a number of ways to seal the hatches, such as cutout silicon rings, foam, and neoprene, to no avail. interestingly I have managed to get an almost perfect fix by covering the hatch with good old bin bag before placing the hatch lid on. No one sees it on the water so who cares? It is the result that counts eh! In case you are wondering I live in Queensland, Australia so all very exotic to see your neck of the woods, so to speak. Stay safe ....Peter

      I have to say, when we started this channel a few months ago, never in my wildest imagination did I think I'd be chatting with a kayaker from Australia. This is amazing thanks so much for reaching out. Made my day! Be safe and paddle on!

      @@seakayaklife It was growing quite a bit but then client work got in the way so we haven't had time to produce any content in 2 weeks, so that has slowed us down a bit. I hate when work gets in the way of the fun projects. We'll be back in action soon though, thanks for asking.

    Such a hard job cutting plastic 😂😂

    • @seakayaklife
      @seakayaklife  День назад

      If you're making a joke, we probably do deserve a laugh for how dramatic we seemed. I mean, cutting plastic is easy, right? What makes it hard is when you realize you have to make a perfect cut cuz there's no real way to recover if you mess up, cut too big, cut in the wrong place, etc. We've done tons of plastic boat mods over the years, mostly drilling holes here and there. If you mess up, you can just plastic weld it and start over. But cutting a 6" circle within 1/16" in a $3000 new boat? It was a little stressful! 😃

    You did it! A nice hole in an expensive piece of plastic. Good job.
    Did you lose the tie down point for the hatch security line when you trimmed everything else off the hatch lip? Or is that one of the futzy details you'll cope with later? That's the hatch lid on my P&H that I have the hardest time popping on when in the water and I'd be really nervous if it wasn't on an idiot string.

    • @seakayaklife
      @seakayaklife  11 месяцев назад

      We were wondering if anyone would pick up on that! Good observation. We attached the lid leash inside the compartment to the underside of one of the deck fittings. It's actually the same way they attach at the factory if it comes w a rear day hatch. And BTW, we don't go out to sea w/o everything tied down lol 😉
