This is my personal favorite car out of the five in this update (mainly due to my bias with Mercedes-Benz cars), and it's also another great option to use in the cash cow WTC 700 race at Le Mans.
Vintage and retro are some of my favorite aspects of Gran Turismo and this is just an absolute gem for those of us who rather feel like a wheelman than an astronaut :D Probably will leave it stock and enjoy driving the heck out of it on Goodwood.
Merc’s other high rollers are the W194 SL by the way, after it got upped to 20mil last year, also a fan of that too theyre both very similar cars I find, the SL being a lot more floaty as a GT car would be. I’m just gutted we can’t use these cars as much as I’d like, I would love a Historic Cup to come back for pre-1979s as we had in older games, I used to race them so much in GT sport
I'm down for this car simply because all open air buggies are a blast to drive in VR! I need to give it a try later tonight. I had just over 94mil in the bank before the update, minutes after, I was down to 62mil after buying multiple Escort's, Porsche,Jimney's, all the new wheels and a bunch of upgrades! Plenty for me to get caught up with in the coming days! 👍💯 Keep'em coming good sir! 😉🍻
I've almost got up to 20 million for it. I'm definitely looking forward to trying it out. As for the price, this is BY FAR, the most expensive update car, 2nd place going to the McLaren MP4/4, which was 8 million at release, now 10 million.
Honestly, I have no problems with it being 20 million. I think it deserves that price tag for its uniqueness alone. And it is actually pretty usable. I put the mid range turbo on it (yes, unfortunately, it’s only low or mid range) and Soft tyres (very overkill I know) and I smoked the new Turbo event on Mount Pan. It’s such a pleasure to work with. What surprised me the most were the brakes, they feel too OP for a car if it’s age. Only problem I had with it was instability at high speed, but it is running pretty much no downforce so that’s a given
Haha bought it on day 1 release. Lucky I had a lazy 20 mil waiting for something good like this to come along. Straight to Nurburgring for that nostalgic 50's F1 feel as the great Juan Manuel Fangio
I am rather saddened we didn’t get the chance to convert this to a streamliner with a widebody mod. But hey maybe that just becomes its own entry in the game in a later update.
It's so weird seeing the driver's shoulders sticking out of the tub. Back in the good old days when it was safer to throw yourself out of the car than crash it. Or alternatively just don't crash.
It wasn't safer to be ejected at high-speed. Drivers elected for driving without seatbelts to avoid the grisly and painful death that came with being strapped into a burning, overturned racecar. Especially, consider that this is the era before self-sealing fuel tanks and even minor collisions often ignited the huge quantities of high-octane race fuel inside the cars. By comparison, a quick toss and skull fracture meant a fairly instantaneous and painless death 😕
@@movinmetal2596 That's before seatbelts became a thing, in historical context. It's possible to have miraculous things happen where a driver manages to survive an ejection from the vehicle, but that's extremely rare.
@@TheSilverShadow17 Yeah, a guy in Indy came up with them in the 20s but few drivers used them until they were mandated in some form or another. Masten Gregory had a penchant for jumping out of cars, surviving multiple wrecks including one where he jumped out at 100+mph 🤯
We had it on Sport Soft tires at the last race of the Exhibition Cup. Felt pretty good, even if with those tires at hairpins the car felt like a boat, similar effect occured if you braked too late, because the car locks the front tires and you lose a LOT of time. Kinda hard to understand and difficult to master, but awsome for time trials.
I just bought the car when the update came out and its fun to drive without the TC. With TC its not bad a little bit of oversteer but its controlable. Its pretty good on fuel when it comes to the the 700pp Lemans race. I’ve yet to do the race in sardegna but overall imo its worth the 20 mil.
Idk what is wrong with PD since the PS3 era about the legend car prices being stupidly high for no reason. I mean who is gonna spend days to race just for ONE car... They need to stop it, please.
The clutch pedal action is animated on this car which is not common for most gt7 cars. It only moves when the gears are changed and not when the clutch is depressed on a controller which is a shame. The seating position is also very awkward with the drivers legs spread wide apart.
Had some fun with it on various tracks against some "professional" AI! Great against itself but obviously beaten by the Honda F1 from the 60s! Just be curious if the Mercedes ends up as a price car in some sort of mission race update in the future as it seems like a precursor of what is to come!
Thanks for this. Polyphony need to wake up to two things: [1] - A realisation that we don't all wish to spend our entire lives accumulating counting beads and [2] - Their engine sounds are STILL absolute rubbish. I endured their license-gathering nonsense when I bought GT7 and discovered that unadvertised charade, but that's all the pointless, previously hidden hoops I'm jumping through. While I'm here, I'll mention that the front wheels in other views elsewhere on RUclips look like jerky stickers of unrealistically sharp-outlined grey things (probably because that's what they are, albeit in digital terms). How difficult can it be to realistically reproduce the high speed rotation of what in real life are far from perfect rubber rings? All of the above moaning is because I paid good money for this game and resent being treated like an unworthy intruder who deserves to be punished before he has any right to achieve anything approaching value for money.
The RPM gauge isn't broken, that's how they worked. I believe you can see the same effect in the Aston DB3.
Pretty sure the 917 is the same.
Wondered if it might be, hadn’t looked up any vintage footage to see
Isnt the SSK Mercedes already a high roller? It was pretty expensive at 13 mil when I bought it
So is the Alpine A220.
1984 Super Silhouette Skyline has a similar rev counter too
4:30 - The rev gauge is chronometric. It's supposed to move like that and not a bug.
And yes, the real car has one as well, so it's all accurate.

Ah yes always forget the SL, and the 20’s Tourer
Still grinding for it! Can't wait to get it though! It's a beautiful machine!

Bought it, loved it. And tried it out with comfort hards, not tcs/abs on the Nordschleife. So hard to drive realisticly.

Phenomenal f1 1950s car easily the standout off the update & is excellent
I think the rev gauge is like that in real life because it uses something called a chronometric tachometer
The best post launch car🤩
I bought it as soon as it was released but haven’t tried it yet. The cockpit view looks great.
20 mil is nothing, to unlock all the magic in this incredible vr2 sim...
Worth every penny

I practiced as much as I could with this car for the nations race, found to love it and even won my race😊

So cool seeing it rev 9k very cool not many others one hit that high rev 59 vet close hp to this one forsure

Me
The W155 actually look great.
The RPM gauge thing ain't new, i remember seeing it in a Porshe long time ago. I think it was the group C.
It is period accurate: this car features a chronometric tachometer
I think the Nissan Silhouette has it too, the weird boxy one
It’s how old cars use to work

Fun car. I wanted to drift it but i can’t put steering angle mod on unfortunately
I think it was boring to drive with RH tires. Haven't yet tried with weaker tires, so hopefully it makes it more fun and alive.
I am so sorry for you buying W196 R for 20 million credits
A lot of the legendary vehicles are 20 million, and it'll get worse unless they make prices lower on them.
I'm at 39.5 mil right now & still prolly wont buy it. Some of my most memorable races have been in slower cheaper cars.
