I really like your split personalities analogy... reminds me a lot of what people like to often say about the McLaren-Merc SLR. One party wanted a cutting edge supercar, the other wanted a grand tourer, and the end result was a car that did neither particularly well. But the godly sound it makes (especially when ripping around a racetrack) is probably enough to offset any doubts about its other shortcomings.
It's always a pleasure to hear your point of view. I have a theory why this car is rwd and rather challenging to drive etc. The reason is if they'd make it 4wd and easier to drive it'd be just a version of what we already have in the game - Porsche VGT, so I'm personally glad that it's so different in terms of driving characteristics and even drivetrain layout than Porsche VGT, and it's the main reason why I love this car so much.
I love this car. The insane acceleration always brings a smile to my face. It isn't perfect, it's handling isn't perfect, especially on its default sports tyres, and I feel the brakes are sometimes just not strong enough. For an EV, I don't expect high top speed unless it's a Rimac, so 205mph top speed doesn't bother me honestly. Would more speed be better? Of course, but I don't hate it. My biggest issue with this car is the same issue I have with almost every EV... They continue to, for whatever reason, make them unusable in any event with fuel. It isn't realistic for any car to run out of battery power after 1 lap at Sardegna (The track is 3.18 miles long, and the fuel consumption is 8x, 8x3.18= 25 miles, which would be just over 7 laps), yet all of them with the exception of the Hyundai N VGT and the Audi E-tron VGT run out after 1 or maybe 2 laps. It sucks and it's a pointless limitation that I wish they would remove. And of course... Fuck the Jimny! Worst car ever added to GT7 that PD in all their amazingness doubled down on and made a duplicate!
Great review. Yeah, I bought it. Just for the sake of buying/ collecting it. But where I'm really using it is in the current time trial (I'm a few hundredths of a second away from Gold). And that'll probably be it. Oh, and I need to compare this car to the Skoda VGT to see which has worse brakes 😅
Could we possibly add the power restrictor and turn it into a 600 HP car or 400 HP car? I guess I'll have to try. It is absolutely gorgeous in VR at least.
Hot take: i actually like driving this which is rare for me and EVs, knowing how the brakes work and that you just have to roll it through corners makes it better I think if they dropped the PP right down to reflect how much you can actually use it would make a huge difference to how people experienced it, being so high and looking how it did i think people presumed they could take all corners flat-out tomahawk style I do wish it was better and not an EV though, like the 917LL
Even for collectors, I would suggest holding off buying this. I have a feeling it’ll be a reward for the GT World Series. I gave up on the car after the Salzburg Time Trial. It was an abysmal experience - the brakes feel even worse than the old Merc from this update and the RR drivetrain, like you alluded to, is so counterintuitive for a car with so much power. Well, at least it has an interior and it looks good.
The biggest thing for me was just getting used to the single gear. I got a mediocre time at Nurburgring for me, but it was okay overall I guess. I wasn't hating it as I did my lap
Braking distance increases quadratically with speed. The brakes work just fine. You have to brake sooner than you normally would because the car is so fast. The turning is also fine. Again, you have to slow down or you will be asking the tires to grip beyond what they are physically capable of. I think this car handles great and people are just underestimating how much sooner you will need to bake compared to other cars. Also be sure to use TCS (just like with most real hypercars).
@HSGAutomotive the more i drive it, the less i like it. Porsche has stated that the mission X is meant to break the lap record at nurburgring So, i think Polyphony should revamp the whole chassis and suspension model for this car, at a minimum. It should have been AWD imo, but it's too late to change that.
I have all the cars so i bought that one also. At least it's cheap. But like all EV i refuse to drive it unless it's strictly necessary (Tesla on those weekly trials). I found EV's, cars without "soul". I love to go down LeMans, high speed with the engine screaming and then the shift down at the Mulsanne or Indianapolis corner when i break. You can not have that on a EV. It's a sanitised car.
I honestly think that RR-drivetrain cars are just, by and large, absolutely atrocious to drive. Its making sense to me now, that cars like that absolutely hate elevation change. I once tried to drive a bone-stock Porsche 911 car, which has the RR layout on Nurburgring... and for as skilled as I am, which isn't much above adept, wound up last. It slipped, slid, and spun out on every single corner, and I could not, to save my life, put it in a proper driving line. I've come to dislike RR cars because of it. To me, they are a nightmare to drive, and I won't ever use such cars for anything serious again.
I haven't been impressed by this car I tried the x track test the high banks are too much for it. the Daytona test was a flop on softs but hard tires work just fine so it will take time to get used to
I really do love the looks of this car! Just wish it drove and handled better in game!
All EV porsche are undrivable in the game
Rubbish Game

It could easily disappoint me if I ever get the chance to drive one, but yeah the SLR is my favourite Merc overall, and a dream car of mine for sure

great voice and very articulate, could understand the old/new "compromise" situation very well. 10/10

I agree with every point except for the jimny. although a duplicate definetly wasn't neccesary
the rimac is actually very slow for an EV of its power in terms of top speed. Look up the yangwang u9 and aspark owl sp600

GT7 please give us a Rimac Nevera !!!!!

This video is spot on. Drove it twice now unloading.

I would rather driving this than the Jimny that's for sure
Well to be honest, 330 km/h isn't exactly slow, but in most circuits it drives like trash

They need to correct the handling and torque delivery
It's rwd, which is absurd for an ev
Especially so for a 2023 EV at that, RR is more like the Model S or Fisker from the late 2000s
@HSGAutomotive the more i drive it, the less i like it.

It's the first Porsche car where drivers use their feet to brake.
It is a driving excel list….
I wouldn't be surprised if they adjust the braking and handling in the next update. Like the Genesis VGT
Good video, but the only reason I watched it is so I don't need to drive it. Could not care less
i hate porsches but this car is dope, even though it sounds like shite. 55 merc is cool too.
Personally I think it drives to well and it should be nerfed more, in particular breaking. ;)

Too much CR for what it get
I’ll probably buy one eventually but I’m not the biggest fan of the VGTs and this one being electric…?
Meh.
This car has awful handling as well. Like a boat, no feel for the speed, snappy handling
