That’s great! I can’t wait to see them! I had a hard time with the whole alcohol thing too. I just didn’t feel comfortable buying vodka, but the lemon extract does such a good job! My mom loves the painted ones because of that little bit of lemon flavor 🥰
I love to use “paints” on my sugar cookies! It’s fun, easy and you can show more of your creative side with it. I use extracts more then vodka. I’m more comfortable with extracts then with alcohol too. I know the stuff in the alcohol dissolves when it drys. But I get a bit worried of using it especially if any kids eat my decorative sugar cookies.
I just found your channel today and love how you explain things! Listening to you talk reminds me of a childhood friend, and it brings back wonderful memories. Plus, you justv have a way of explaining things that is easy to understand and follow along. I noticed you haven't posted new content in a while, but I plan to watch all your cookie content so far. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I’ve tried lemon juice and had no luck unfortunately☹️ I think you have to have the alcohol content in the extract to make it evaporate quickly so it doesn’t dissolve the icing. It would probably be better than water in a pinch though! 🥰
@@momiguldurrani106 oh gotcha! There is a product called sugar prism edible acrylic paint that mixes with water to paint on royal icing. I think it would be worth checking in to! I saw it on Instagram 🥰
Thanks for this!! Do you find there's any weird flavor from the extract? I have lemon and clear Vanilla I'd like to try. I used water once but curious how the extracts work! I don't keep alcohol in the home.
It does lend a lemony flavor 🍋 but I think it tastes great and everyone who has tried it this far has agreed. My mom actually prefers the painted ones for that flavor. I think the clear vanilla would work really well too. I tried almond extract once with no luck. It gave it an almost greasy look if that makes sense. I used to use water but kept having tiny holes like pumice in the icing. Turns out the water was dissolving the icing but the extracts have enough of an alcohol content to evaporate before they damage the icing underneath. I just didn’t feel comfortable using straight vodka or another alcohol either 🥰
Thank you so much! I saw a McCormick orange extract online that looks pretty much exactly the same as the lemon. I would say it would work. Definitely won’t hurt to try!
There is a faint lemon taste. It's not super strong, but I've had customers compliment the extra flavor. If you're looking for a flavorless option, ever clear vodka is another popular choice for painting cookies :)
I don’t have a set color scheme. I’m sorry! I just pulled several gel food colorings from my collection. I suggest Canva or the color picker app to get the various shades from the picture though 🥰

So glad to have an option that isn’t alcohol. Very pretty! I’m excited to try it.

Lemon extract contains alcohol, in fact all extracts do.

@@SarahGraceCookieCoI use vanilla extract for my watercolors. I haven’t used lemon extract yet for watercolors. I think I might try it sometime.
Those cookies are beautiful
Thank you so much Lori!

@@SarahGraceCookieCo thank you so much for your response,😘. But minimum quantity of alcohol is also prohibited in our religion. I am finding that way.

Can the cookies be frozen after being painted?
Can I use vanilla extract that is brown ?
I've never tried that before, but it might give it an antique look! I want to try it now :)
Can u taste the lemon on the cookies or no? Just curious 🙈
