I listened to this fight on the radio with my dad when I was 8 years old. My pops was a huge fight fan. Man,
seems like yesterday a lil wide eyed kid heard Clay screaming. Then I grew to love him, we went to close circuit
fights vs Frazier One and Foreman. Probably the best bonding moments I ever had with the old man.
    RIP Muhammad and Pops.

Ali and Tyson are my favorite fighters but I have to say from my knowledge of boxing his defense wasn't that great he relied more on natural reflexes than actual real defense that's why as he got older and out his preme he started doing the rope a dope because his reflexes slowed same as Roy Jones who also relied on natural reflexes they would drop there hands when dodging punches which is not a good idea I would say Floyd had way better defense probably the best defensive fighter ever

But Liston was carrying injury in his shoulder, which we could see with his movement. He was at least 34 or 36 years old at the time, which is certainly not a prime age for any athlete; and especially against the best HW Boxer, Ali. @@tigertruthAgreed, this is all speculation. Actually, my assessment based on a few things. First the advanced age of Liston, secondly the fact that he was carrying injury. But one important thing is that the great Manny Steward felt that a younger and injury free Liston would have won against Ali. Of course, one can't be fully sure. I just felt that the resume of Liston, the intimidation, his reach advantage, size of his fists combined with the assessment of Manny Steward, might mean that Liston would have won. @@johnharris8191 Show me one undefeated heavyweight boxer. I’ll wait. In fact, Ali was never knocked out in his entire career, something barely any fighter can say. Ali had the best ever chin in boxing history, and because of that chin he suffered from Parkinson’s in his 30’s. He is the most confident boxer to have ever lived. I believe you put any boxer in the ring with Ali, and they fight until one falls down, Ali beats every boxer in history and is always the one to remain standing. There’s a reason Mike Tyson cries every time he speaks about Ali, because Ali was special, cut from a different cloth.

@@RD-kh3xt You are a student of the game, unlike amateurish observer @john harris who simply wears his emotions on his sleeve shirt -- he never gets tired of singing his recurrent refrain of "5 losses". Ali's "losses" included the close but unanimous decision by Frazier that wasn't decided until the 15th round left hook knockdown. Then followed the split decision wins by Ken Norton and Leon Spinks. Then the ill-advised comeback challenge, at 38, versus heavyweight champion, all-time great and prime Larry Holmes. Then the swang song versus journeyman Trevor Berbick at almost the age of 40.
A little correction, however. Officially Ali suffered a technical knockout loss as he quit on his stool against Holmes in 1980. But you are right, he was never really knocked OUT throughout his career courtesy of a chin of steel God endowed him with. No amount of training can make a difference to any fighter's jaw because either you are born with it or you don't have it, period. 'nuff said.

Makes me truly wonder what fight they actually watched. Liston arguably only won one round (round five when Clay was near-blind, and even THEN it was still MAYBE a 10-9 round for Sonny). Clay really beat Sonny like he stole something.
