cool, i'm trying to apply this to my guard game. very ofensive, but gotta be wary to collar chokes or baseball chokes for example. i guess.

This is interesting because one of my training partners has been doing this before we knew what mantis guard was. And yes it's impossible to pass for me!

Dudeeee this guard is awesome. I am not a fan of playing half guard because I am small & skinny. Everytime I play half guard, I get smashed.
But during a free roll tonight, I tried this & I have never felt so much comfort & control over my partner by playing deep underneath his body.
This guard allowed me to keep my body on an angle & keep my partner off his base.
I did not get a submission but I did survive a roll without being submitted by my much higher rank partner.

Is Keenan actually inveting these attacks. or where they something that throughout the years have come and gone in some academies in Brazil. Why i say come and gone is because after testing it for a while it was deemed unpractical to the true heart and soul of bjj, which is street defense. But perhaps that the heart and soul is moving towards straight sport without no consequences of getting brutalized by strikes or at least even the thought of a possible strike, now maybe these kinds of moves are considered innovative for the sport of bjj (not the sd style of bjj)

You just need to practice it in whatever environment you are going to use it in. If you're afraid of getting hit, train the position with somebody trying to touch your head and see if you can do it without gettin hit. I have used mantis in combat jj and with just a few modifications it works wonderfully. Thanks Keenan. As far as the collar chokes go, I wouldn't know, I don't fight in my pajamas.

Seems like he is vulnerable to a cross collar from that guard position...neck is wide open. Go for the choke to force him to abandon the mantis guard IMO

So it's more like a Deep-Half entry rather than a unique guard system.
