These are amazing gems. I'm glad the NHM is taking such good care of them. Plus getting some actual science done. Bravo.
I tried to find some info on Hixon. Who is he?

Between 1972 and 1978, Colonel Frederick C. Hixon of San Antonio, Texas donated his fine collection of colored gems. Hixon took the GIA “home study” course with the assistance of none other thanDick Liddicoat. He assembled his collection with the guidance of Ben R. Hammond Jr. and AllanCaplan with the goal of acquiring outstanding examples of all the colors of important gem species, as well as the rare collector gems. In a few short years, he had amassed a remarkable collection of over 200 superb stones. Serendipitously, the Hixon’s quest coincided with the building of the museum’s new Gem and Mineral Hall, and he was moved to donate his collection to the museum and to support the construction of a special room to display it. Hence, when the museum opened its new gallery in 1978, the Hixon Gem Collection provided the heart and soul of its new “F.C. HixonGem Vault.” The Hixon collection is a wonderful representation of popular stones on the market during the early to mid-1970s. Highlights of the collection include some amazing corundums: an 18.29-carat star ruby from Burma, a 6.7-carat“sleepy blue” Kashmir sapphire and an 11.18-carat deep red-purple sapphire from Sri Lanka.

You can find gems in heaven, Lucifer was covered with them.
Ezekiel 28:13 - Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
