I've watched many hours of metal-melting videos on youtube and one thing that really impresses me about this is how shiny the gold was through the entire process. Most metals are dull and ugly after being poured, and need extensive sanding and polishing to be shiny, but the gold was beautiful from step 1, and kept it's sheen the entire time.

Gold doesn't oxidize. The only thing that can tarnish gold is mercury.

Gold is extremely unreactive. Dulling is caused by oxidization processes and such, to which gold is not vulnerable.
Usually you would go through the process of removing impurities in the beginning. But since they started off with already pure gold, probably the process wouldn't be shown on screen.

From melting golden bars, to molding, to polishing. And the next day, new necklace chain or ear rings already in the display to be sold. For me it's so magical. 😍😍

I have always wondered why there are 2 types of gold bars. One is "ugly", uneven and rough on the surface (cast gold bars) while the other looks so clean, shinny and perfect (minted gold bars). Now with this video, I can further understand how they make minted from cast.

Skilled craftmen anywhere in the world and specially in western type democracies are not poor.They may not be lamborghiny rich living in palaces, but they are at least middle class. And if you want an argument from the dark evil capitalist point of view: you do not let poor people near gold, the temptation is too great. The pay must be good enough to fear loosing the job more than gaining from stealing.
@@lormaeris what he's doing doesn't require a lot of "skill" per se. Anyone can be trained to do that kind of repetitive work. So craftsman may be a bit embellished. He probably gets paid way less than you think, but I'm sure he's making more than a typical factory worker because of the nature of the product.

금속 재료 공학을 전공한 사람으로서 말씀 드리자면, 열역학적 관점에서 순도 100프로 라는건 있을수가 없습니다. 99.9999...프로는 가능해도 100프로는 안됩니다. 일정 순도 이상으로 올라가면 순도를 높이는데 정말 특별한 공정이 필요하며 뒤에 9하나 더 붙이는데도 제조하는데 가격이 어마어마하게 올라갑니다.
금 원자도 순도 100%라고 부를 수 없나요?

Gold has nothing to do with chemicals after it's been purified to 99% pure unless you mix it with other metals for strenght than you can add a little of borax to mix the metals together

I like to compare engraving on solid material vs which can be melted and allow it to solidify. Manual & machine work was same on meltable material while solid material both kind of works shows lot of compromises.

At the 4:23 mark I am reminded of the semiconductor job I had many moons ago. I was sitting at a very hot small plate. I had a pile of tiny solid gold squares that I would pick up with vacumn tweezers and drop onto the hot plate. It melted instantly. I then with vacumm tweezers picked up a wafer chip, dropped it onto the melted gold then moved (foot pedal) it away from the heat. It would solidify instantly. These were used in electronic components. Gold is a fantastic conductor.
