Steep bank riding definitely needs a much softer wheel compound than whats currently available. Smooth-on sells various super soft durometers of casting Urethanes. It's pretty easy to make a quick mold of one of your wheels and cast some 60a or softer wheels. Wouldn't be wheels for efficiently rolling around, but for ditch banging they might rock. Like you've been saying, right tool for the job.I actually have a couple gallons of 60a duro urethane laying around, I might give this a try.

Yeah something gummy for sure. The centrax seemed right but as soon as they got dusty they couldn’t hold onto the smooth concrete at all. Something about the properties of roundhouse wheels seemed to result in them maintaining their grip even though they got dusty. But I have no idea as to why. So much to learn

For that bank over the sand, if you pumped the board like a surfboard you (i.e. up and down pumping) you probably could make it

Dusty wheels/spot + smooth concrete= wheels losing grip with pumping. I’m betting it’s never been done and I’d love to see someone do it 🙌 problem wasn’t losing speed. Problem was loss of traction.

If you’re ever in southwest Tucson A-Mountain neighborhood and Midvale Park have two pristine ditches, easily accessible.

Ooo I wonder if I’ve seen them? I’ve skated several ditches around Tucson and I’m trying to think of the one you’re referring to

@@TheSurfskateboarder A-mountain has a neighborhood to the immediate south. The ditch is visible from mission road just north of silverlake rd to the west. The midvale ditch is between housing developments bordering on S. New Castle Court and W. Kennington Ave east of Midvale Park Road about 120 yards on a wide open dirt road leading to it (just west of the Santacruz bicycle path. That’s my favorite since it’s right near me and I maintain the cleanliness

Nice! Take some contact cement and smear some generously around the wheels, and let it dry till tacky at least. Guaranteed you'll make that bank!

This actually sounds like something to try. You’ve experimented with this? I was so bummed that the centrax wheels wouldnt hold. The concrete in that ditch is skatepark smooth and dusty so it’s a recipe for sliding out. But if you think something like this would result in more tackiness without compromising too much on speed I’d 100% give it a go! Never tried anything like it!

@@TheSurfskateboarder I've never tried it, and not sure how long it would last....but I know that drag cars burnout their tires to melt the rubber to create a sort of super soft sticky paste for traction and contact cement would definitely mimic this. On dust free smooth cement you would have insane traction, but on dust, not sure. Just have to try it with some old beater wheels. It'll definitely slow you down somewhat, maybe alot, maybe not much at all....just have to try it! I'd try it but I don't have any steep banks near me.

@@TheSurfskateboarder The other thing that might be worth trying is tar. Trials riders rub a special kind of tar on their bike rims and brake pads that make them super sticky and grabby, maybe this could be rubbed on wheels and just a thin coat might be all that's needed to get that extra traction.

I tried going higher. I was confused as to why this consistently yielded shorter carves.
I finally used my app for measuring angles and found the lowest part of the bank was about 21 degrees and the top of the bank is 30 degrees.
30 degrees isn’t too steep. But when you factor in very smooth fresh concrete and dust, you lose a ton of grip at this spot. Believe me/come try it out (would be fun!)
If it goes, it definitely goes more easily on a low line drive.
I’m interested in experimenting with tar 😈
