Thank you very much for this (and others) video. Reaper puts ridiculous amount of power into user's hands for a very budget friendly price. These videos make sure that learning curve is not too steep (I won't go pedanting why I think that expression is wrong and it should be flat, not steep... ...ooops, I did it again).
The last time I was in a studio the producer used Logic Pro? with which he used this method which was new to me (I thought this was a Logic Pro thing only) and I was impressed and wished that Reaper could do it. I shouldn't have doubted should I? Nice one Paul, another winner.
Love it . I was able to learn more on your video. Can you please show how to trim certain part on the takes or lane? I tried to trim and I lost everything. Thanks
thanks... but when I take multiple takes, system does not show take 1/2 , take 2/2 as seen in this video. moreover, colours also don't differ from each other as seen in this video. what am I doing wrong?
Stupid question. But are you able to move individual takes. For example I have a take that is out of time but holds better pitch than other takes I'd like to nudge it in time but all of the takes move. I've exploded them in onto separate tracks to fix the timing, but I'd like a quicker way to do that. Is that possible? Also, great video.
Thanks for sharing this interesting Video with us! Well done! Two little questions: 1. What Theme are you using? 2. Can you let us know a bit more about the buttons in the top left hand Corner (Guitar, Bass, Vocals, ...) Thanks. Chris
Question: If you record in a playlist loop and you need to punch in/out in for example in Take 2 (Record 2) without re-recording every loops, how do you do it?
Is there any way to do a simple destructive record like in pro tools? I don't like how reaper cuts all my takes at the end of each take and would rather just overwrite the last take.
REAPER is a beautiful monster, is ONE OF THE BEST PIECE OF SOFTWARE of history of computer programing and growing every few months with updates, the skin is not important (but is totally customized), reaper excels in functionality and performance and has a lot of plugins and scripts, most of them are free, I don't need 40 gigas of samples, reaper is capable of do everything in audio composition, and with a little of studio the powerful is enormous, and there are a lot of free vstis and samples out there to start, I sincerely believe that it is one of the best daws, among the five best, o maybe the best. big fan of reaper.. sorry for my english
When I right click on a take I don't get the same pop up you are getting I get a popup title "Media Item Properties" how do I get the popup you're getting so I can access the same option window?
I'm the reverse; coming from another DAW and do not want takes :P Finding it super frustrating to disable the whole feature - i want to write midi performances without it continuously creating new takes...thank you for help w this
Great video! Could you give an explanation of how to use takes using multiple tracks. I’m recording solo acoustic guitar with two condensers and a pick up, so three tracks total. I’m wanting to use multiple takes and comping. Is there a way to group them together?
I have been searching and searching but I get different confusing answers I am playing guitar and I record a few takes and when I am happy with one take of the first part I want to continue with the song and keep recording I need the last take keep playing while I continue recording the remaining on new take How to do this?
Guys, i'm wondering is there's an option to "link" one track with n takes to another so if one updates/crops/copies from takes of first track, the same will be applied to other track automatically? Imagine you're recoring the same signal on more than one microphone. It may be very helful.. I've recorded mid-side stereo and now spent x2 time just doing the same manipulations on both tracks..
Great ...as always...Need one help. Say I recorded 3 takes in "Auto Punch" mode. But Reaper does not show like "Take 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3". It creates 3 different Lane Takes with a SINGLE WAV file name. In addition, I am unable to Comp as well, because all 3 lanes play simultaneously, creating mess. What am I doing wrong?? How can i set Reaper to perform as shown in this video?
How do I drag, cut or move each take separately. Say I recorded a takes of a guitar solo. I didn't like one place in it. I then record the second take, but only the section I didn't like. How can cut space in the first take and replace it with a 2nd take. Every time I'm doing this, its moving all takes as one?
You can't drag and move around individual takes as they are locked together. However, the easiest way to get around that is to just explode you takes to new tracks. Then you have a new track for each take and can move, cut, copy, etc.
Really really wish you could audition multiple takes simultaneously within the take lanes without having to explode to separate tracks. Sonar has this option and I miss it dearly. Fantastic for when you intend to double or triple (or more!) guitars or vocals and are able to hear which passes sound best together. This is honestly the only shortcoming REAPER poses in my workflow.
Hi, you don't need to explode your takes to separate tracks; you only need to select the take you wish to listen to and can easily loop a section and keyboard shortcut between the takes of that section.
ReaperTV Thanks for the response! But my wish is to be able to select MORE than one take at a time and listen to them simultaneously, instead of only a single selected item within the take lane. REAPER is unable to do this currently, but I pray for the day this is possible.
Thanks for the great video. I still think that the Reaper Takes implementation is one of the least intuitive and weakest main features of the DAW and prevents me from moving completely away from SO4. That said, some of that is familiarity and this video helps. Thanks again.
Well.. shoot.. reminds me of when I spent the weekend cutting drywall with a saw only to go into work the next Monday. They were remodeling the office and the drywall guy takes his utility knife and zips the line and breaks the drywall off. A day or two late for me. As a Reaper newbie I have been doing multiple tracks for multiple vocal takes and then trying to figure out how to combine best sections.. Now I find this.. oh well.. lol
Thank you very much for making this video, very helpful! So much to learn......... I use Reaper because it's compatible with (for? english isn't my 1st language :-) Windows and Apple, very convienent.
Very useful video, thanks a lot! Quick question if you don´t mind: what theme did you use in this video? I really like the narrow mix track. Thanks again.
Right click on the one you want to keep, under 'take' select 'crop to active take'. Or you can create a shortcut as he did, go to actions, search for 'crop to active take' and input your shortcut
i guys i just started with using reaper and recording and i can't find the window with recording, stop, play icons the whole bottom section just magically disappeared ... would really appreciate any help. i just want to put down a guitar track and vocals . and my screen is just like the one shown at the beginning of this video except for the top section which i believe could also be seen at the bottom as it was in my PC.
Ok great but I am a newbee and for me right now I just wanna know how to cut and splice two two tracks together . I mean bring A and B together and cut out the in between. Eh!
PR SoundDesigns sorry, but what exactly sounds bad? Everything sounds fine when tested through monitors, phone, TV. So I'm not too sure what the issue is here.
Reaper is no doubt the best and most intuitive DAW I have ever worked with!
you've got to be kidding me
finding myself waching this after tinkering with reaper for years tells me that is not particularly accurate.
Wow I've been using Reaper for 3 years and didn't know this, I was creating new tracks for each take like an absolute chump. Thank yoooouu!!
Me too, LOL
i guess I'm quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Kabir Khalid I watch on flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Gerald Wesley yea, I've been using flixzone for since april myself :)
@Gerald Wesley Thanks, signed up and it seems to work =) Appreciate it!
bro what??? this is seriously SO MUCH BETTER than recording in any other daw!!!
@Marko Zivanovic cubase does not appeal to me and ive never heard of nuendo, but thanks for letting me know
Thank you for taking the time to make all of these videos, they are absolutely priceless!
Keep up the great work. Your tutorials are extremely helpful, informative and very well-presented. No complaints whatsoever.
It really worked for me after I look and try some tutorials, yours is the one that worked. Owe you a lot.
These tutorials are still relevant, and useful.
Many thanks.
Damn! Exploding takes in place is a great option for recording gang vocals! Thank's for the video, it is really helpful!
Very useful - thanks for posting this. I've used Reaper for nearly 10 years now and I learned a couple of new tricks! :)
My pleasure and glad you picked up a few new tricks too :0)
Perfect timing! I have wondered how the takes in Reaper work for awhile.
We're all about the timing you know ;0)
Thank you very much for this (and others) video. Reaper puts ridiculous amount of power into user's hands for a very budget friendly price. These videos make sure that learning curve is not too steep (I won't go pedanting why I think that expression is wrong and it should be flat, not steep... ...ooops, I did it again).
CTRL-L is what I was looking for, thank you!
i been using reaper for years and never knew this - glad i watched - u rock

My pleasure John, and come on. Have some faith.. this is Reaper we're talking about here. lol ;0)
This is fantastic, a brilliant tutorial. Thanks for your great videos and all your help.
No problem at all; glad you've found it useful :0)
Thanks, Paul! My favourite Reaper Channel😃
Love it . I was able to learn more on your video. Can you please show how to trim certain part on the takes or lane? I tried to trim and I lost everything. Thanks
I miss this channel
thanks...

Same question!!
Hi! Great video. I have a question though: How can I move or crop one take individually? Does it always select all three? Thanks!
this!
These Reaper blokes aren't messing around
Very nicely explained and demo'd! Thanks!

sorry for my english
Nice video. Is there a way edit (split and move) takes without affecting the other takes on top of it, and without exploding them to new tracks?
Brilliant! Thanks a lot for this helpful tutorial.
Amazingly useful video. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Very helpful!
How do I get that play button at the top to play individual takes? My workspace looks different. Thanks for your help.
Hi, i dont understand witch command you execute when press T at 9:26. Can you explain ?
When I right click on a take I don't get the same pop up you are getting I get a popup title "Media Item Properties" how do I get the popup you're getting so I can access the same option window?

very useful!! thanks a lot!!
My pleasure :0)
I loved it! Super clear and informative, thank you so much!!!
very helpful ..though i know n seen tutorials in past except comping..
Fantastic video
I got a problem, I can't visualize all the takes, just one. but if I double click on the item I can change the take. I don't know why. It was normal
Thank you! Just what I needed to know and well presented tutorial.
John, nice video, thanks. Is there a way to create a lead sheet from within, or by an add on to Reaper?
Super explaination of this. I mostly still record off-line in a Fostex VF16. Can I import takes and have these same options?
You saved me. Thanks!
how do I import comp tracks to reaper from logic x

Well explained thanks

uhh... how is this not intuitive? lol
Very useful thanks
Thanks for this! It was such a big help to a beginner like me :)
amazing thanks man

Thank You
Very useful video, thanks a lot!

It's Default Commala 5 :)
I think you should put on the intro screen that you use Default Commala 5 as it's your most frequently asked question. :)
John Hanslip lol, tell me about it. 😉
Help! Reaper keeps playing all the takes at the same time despite me selecting them individually :(
Good video ! Thanks a lot. Can you please explain how to commit 1 take of 3 if I like 1 I want other to go away.
Right click on the one you want to keep, under 'take' select 'crop to active take'. Or you can create a shortcut as he did, go to actions, search for 'crop to active take' and input your shortcut
@@monz7951 Thanks a lot !!
I'm new to reaper so when you say things like "use the split tool" - no idea where I can find it, I don't see this icon on my reaper.
I had the same issue. Watch the first 5 minutes of this. ruclips.net/video/LzesiU5_Blk/видео.html
It would be handy if exploding to new tracks also copied whatever fx you're using.
Thanks man I'm imploding and exploding tracks all over the joint now!
ur amazing
i guys i just started with using reaper and recording and i can't find the window with recording, stop, play icons the whole bottom section just magically disappeared ... would really appreciate any help. i just want to put down a guitar track and vocals . and my screen is just like the one shown at the beginning of this video except for the top section which i believe could also be seen at the bottom as it was in my PC.

Ok great but I am a newbee and for me right now I just wanna know how to cut and splice two two tracks together . I mean bring A and B together and cut out the in between. Eh!
S to split, and "glue items" to combine
Was this a cleverly disguised promotion for the channel, to get subs?? If so...hats off
Lol, not intentionally. Did you sign up though? If so, I think I'll have to use this technique more often! lol
ReaperTV lol, COINCIDENTALLY, I didn't notice that I HADN'T subbed yet...until reading your response! :/ But yea I did now. I did like the video tho!

PR SoundDesigns sorry, but what exactly sounds bad? Everything sounds fine when tested through monitors, phone, TV. So I'm not too sure what the issue is here.
