On the Traktor S2 you can either swap the gain/trim control at the top of the EQs for filter in the S2 settings within Traktor set up. Or you could use a filter assigned to the channel from the effect rack.
Been dj'ing for almost a year, and still learning all the time. Crossfader is a fantastic learning aid for those who really want to push the boundaries of their skillsets, really appreciate the work you guys put into these vids. Thank you!
I'm just an ordinary guy, who has been listening to dance music for a very long time and can I just say, you DJ guys and girls are super talented and incredibly clever. I for one couldn't hope to approach the amazing tricks and devices you all use. Actually, I don't want to when I have top DJs to do it for me. And you make it look so easy. Wow. That's why I simply love to listen and watch the best at work. Great sounds, inventive techniques, thanks for the insight.
I would love to see a video that shows a general idea of each FX and what their intended effect is. For example; reverb can be used to fill space and create dramatic build. Interested in things like enigmatic jet, flanger and phaser. I mix mostly peak/driving techno (BPM 127-135) Thanks!
you should really try to learn it, its super simple and with people like Jamie, here its even easier. mixing is easy start by getting a program, and just try to match song phrases together and practice counting your beats, then upgrade to learning to beat match and from there you should have enough understanding (in like 2-3 weeks) to be able to apply some of these tricks. TRUST me, NAILING a transition or drop or anything is SO incredibly satisfying. specially when its two songs you always dreamt of mixing.
Wish i found your tutorials a few years ago when i was transitioning from vinyl to digital. I'm learning a lot, even the basics help. Coming up with these techniques on your own is not easy and your clear instructions are great, thank you.... your taste in music definitely helps too. thank you for all your doing.
Technique five was my favorite. I just turned 40 and my wife got me dj bundle so I just started to dj and I’m having blast although finding tracks has been more tasking and time consuming as I thought. I have been using the echo transition and it true I find myself using this technique to often. Thanks fo the vid.
My favourite is definitely mixing technique 1. I'm using the autoloop technique a lot, and I personally believe it's effective, and pretty easy to master. However the first 1st one is easy to learn, really effective but more difficult to master. There's always creative ways you can develop it. #WeAreCrossFader
Since I am a House DJ in training, I prefer the first one. Using the Filter and Low EQ's to blend and bring in one track and slowly fade out another. I used this technique last night and hope to use it again when I record my mix.
Your videos are top notch. Everything is explained in such a clear and structured manner. I’ve spent a lot of time recently watching tutorials and Crossfader is consistently the most helpful asset to learning how to DJ and advancing my skills. Huge, huge thank you! ❤
Looking through tutorials and I thought I saw a familiar face! Being taught online by a chap in my year at school while living on the other side of the world... how bizarre! Great tutorials
My favorite mixing technique is number 3. I'm an open format DJ, and I discovered it kind of by accident (or out of necessity), and the loop feature is something that has worked for me very well. However, I never considered chopping the loop in half. Now that I know it would sound nice to chop it every 8 or 4 beats, I feel like I've been playing it safe all this time. Thanks for breaking down this technique. I'll definitely try it tomorrow during my dj set. #WeAreCrossfader
Thanks so much. Even for someone like me who's done this for a while, it's always good to brush up on basics to keep from getting stale. Much appreciated!
Filter In and Out (1) and Hi Hat Mixing (4) both really peaked my interest. Indeed, adopting your suggested techniques would add variety to any mix. I'm not sure how effective they might be with other styles of music, mostly hip-hop and dancehall. But I play mostly EDM and calypso/soca music and both genres blend nicely together. Anyway, good video and much helpful tips.
As an open-format dj i use all my hotcues on the nxs2 for various parts of the song. A (green) - 8 bars in to the intro/15 sec left of the intro (for fast mixing), B (purple) - when the vocals start, C (yellow) - buildup, D (red) - Drop. Then i use the rest of the 4 hotcue banks to do the same, but for the second part of the song. So no 5 might be good for the ones who doesn't use hotcues like me. And the other ones were good beginner tips. But the one that i need to practise more is no 3. I know it's a powerful tool to use loops, but i rarly cut them in half. So that's what I'm going to practise. Thank you. Best regards from Sweden.
Love your videos cause they are the best way to learn and understand that djing is just more then pressing the play button, my favourite technique would have to be number 4.
I'm a old school dj and this will help me a lot to keep up using a Midi Controller and do more than just that first technique which I mostly use honestly.
4am here in Florida watching your video 2019 may 31st I really loved all the techniques but I want n will learn the cue fades those sounded so BA. Great videos ty for making them all I'm a total noob only 3 weeks in but learning is the fun part.
nice to see usable technics that's not "pull everything to echo and don't beatmatch at all" on youtube tutorials. nothing really new - but hey, still learned a bit

I really like the Word Play technique. The others I use often is some form or variation, but the Word Play was a game changer for me. I have been DJing now for less than 1 yr. I have always been in music from vocal to instrumental to production I was a Karaoke DJ for a long time before jumping into digital DJing with CONTROLLER and let me tell you it has made me one of the hottest guys around in the world of Karaoke. Thanks for the new. I subscribed today as well.
My favorite was the vinyl spin back echo, which I already use and always sounds great, thanks for the interesting video, still had the chance to learn new stuff! #WeAreCrossfader
The sampler one is probably my favorite. I think you taught me another one that has to do with looping. I also like the cutting out the snare one. Just be creative I guess. Thanks Crossfader!
nr.2 Can also be achieved by using the brake effect on the DDJ RB pad FX section. that way you don't have to change anything in the settings for the start stop button.
Guys first i want to thank you for all the great videos, they really helped me becoming a lot more confident and learned so muuch from this channel! I consider all of them really cool, if can pick one... the rhythm one i didn't know and i will really practice it cuz it is so cool. Really love your work and guidance. Keep posting, you people with great souls! 🤘

Crossfader in Transition 1, what Kind of Filter do you use ? Or is is just The eq? I just have a Traktor kontrol smk2
On the Traktor S2 you can either swap the gain/trim control at the top of the EQs for filter in the S2 settings within Traktor set up. Or you could use a filter assigned to the channel from the effect rack.

i want to ask sb3 vs rb which one good for beginning to use ddj?thanks

Nr 5 is very good

5 is especially my favorite. I always like it when DJs use the melodies and harmonies of two songs to bridge them together.
ok so ivve basicly been teaching myself and ive used some of these but watching u do them has helped me and will greatly improve my mixing
i have been mixing for 2 months extreme beginner and you just delivered me the holy grail of videos thank you for fixing my dumb ass

Hot cue play is favourite as it’s quite different to many transitions. And it’s fun!

You're the best sir Jamie and the rest of Crossfader family. This is a great video for me that is just starting DJing
Thanks, just started in this world....I think the #5 is better as it adds more personal flavor on the sounds selected.

#5 is so cool...this way the dj has control over the song and makes it his. Dope
I often do the hi-hat technique to keep up the energy but I hadn't thought of adding a reverb, makes it sound much better.
4th technique is so cool, it’s my fave one!
