Thumbs up👍 My talons would not retrack back all the way up and will get stuck at the last light which is 2 feet. I replayed your RUclips video, did the same thing with the little tools I could find on my boat and it worked. That saved my life on the water🙏🙏🙏 thanks man
Thank you for this video. Mine did same and as you said, simple fix. I purchased my Talons in Feb 2021 and there have been a couple changes. Top cap only has two Phillips head screws making it easier to access slipped pin. My pin goes all the way through the blue housing and is visible on both sides. I saw there was a problem as the pin was 1/2 in out on on side and not showing on other. At least Minn Kota made it easier to diagnose, now if they would fix problem that would be nice. According to rumors they won’t be investing much time in the Talon as they are discontinuing and have release Raptors.
Thanks for the info Bruce!…yea I’m strongly considering making the switch to the Raptors, they look legit…love my Talons, but may be time for a change, glad this video helped ya out!…thanks for updating with the new info!
Update: first time out after repair, half way through day I checked and the pin was almost out again. Looks like it will be an ongoing issue. My local Authorized Service Center is closed for 3 week vacation. I will update again after I speak to the about a proper repair.
NEW FIND. Problem continued with each use. Found there is supposed to be a “C clip” between the plastic spacers the pin passes through. $0.37 at hardware store for the clip as shown on parts diagram. Ordered a Stainless Steel clip from Minn Kota ($0.89 part, $11 to ship) and wii install today. Also, checked inside Talon for old part - not to be found, looks like there is room for it too fall out. I have the tilt brackets so each time I wipe down boat after use, I now fully extend, clean and spray with WD40 Silicon or Lucas Slick Mist (alternate each cleaning). PM me if you want more info on clip. Raptors look like the way to go, but I am goin* to nurse these a little longer before pouring in another $4k.
@@brucebroadwater8198 Oh wow, that’s good to know!… Thanks for the update!… Thankfully I still haven’t had any problems with mine but if it happens again I will definitely go that route… I keep going back-and-forth on the Raptors myself
Those 12 ft talon, do you have to be a around 11 ft for the anchor spike to be able to lock in the mud or can you drop your talon rite at 12 ft and still get a good anchor spike. I am thinking it still has to penetrate the spike deep thru the mud enough which takes up some of the lengh already.
Yea I’ve found that you only get a “solid“ hold in depth up to around 10-11’ max… if it’s really calm they may hold me slightly deeper but if there’s any movement from wind/other boats, they definitely don’t hold at 12 feet
I love the new raptors, they look legit!… I’m actually considering switching to them… But I’ve had no more issues with my Talons since posting this video!
Love the video! Great job and super detailed. I have the spike and the first two metal sections deploying. Do you think it's the pin like you showed in this video or do you think it just needs to be lubricated? Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you, I appreciate that!…I would start by lubricating and seeing if that helps, if not I would definitely take a look at this pin…I’ve found out that it’s more common than I thought…let me know how ya make out!
No prob, thanks for watching John!...I’m honestly not sure what that cork is for but if I had to guess it helps keep everything aligned for proper function!
Great review thx.. WD40 is not a good oil it works more like a detergent for cleaning or loosening stuff, don't get me wrong it works great as a quick temporary solution, but then you have to use a good oil or grease
How are you liking those Raptors?...I’ve considered swapping to them instead, they look sweet but I don’t personally know anyone who has ran them yet, thanks for watching!
nice!...that's one of the reasons I'm considering going back to Power Poles as well...I run all Lowrance HDS Lives, and the Lowrance Ghost trolling motor...so if I swapped back to PP, I could do the same from my graphs, but I could even control them with my foot pedal of the Ghost...I'm torn between the Raptors and going back to PP Blades...thanks for the info!!

Great Vid. You can also use Armor All on the Talons to lubricate.
Thanks man!...and yea absolutely, they work like new after a good cleaning and greasing!
awesome vid! keep them coming for the talons, good info.
Thanks man!...appreciate the support and the feedback!

Regular WD-40 is a water displacement formula that quickly evaporated. Best to use the “waterproof silicon spray” from the WD-40 brand.
That’s a good tip, thanks for the feedback Steve!… I’ll try that next time I clean them, thanks for watching!
I use silicone as well.
I now use WD40 Silicon and Lucas Slick Mist. I have tilt brackets so I can easily clean or lube every takeout right along with wiping down the boat.
Any more updates? Looks like lithium grease is the recommended lubricant for the talons, want to go used 15s instead of expensive new 10 raptors lol

When this happened did it just make a clicking noise? I have 2 12 ft and one does not go down but makes a clicking noise. Thank you
Hey Jim!…it did, when it got to the point that it stopped it would click a few times before it just “went dead”…hope that helps!
thanks for video.
so what is purpose of the cork looking thing?
thanks

Did you find out why the pin came out what's to keep it from happening again
Hey Brian!…not sure what made it pop out, thankfully it never happened again!

Thanks for the feedback!…yea I have to agree there, using a good marine grade oil/grease would definitely work better!…thanks for watching!
Only problem i've had is the 30 amp fuse tripping. Fyi that fuse can be rest. Just reset it and go on. This is on the Raptor not the Talon.
