What a great gar video to come back from after some amazing sturgeon. That gar was a beauty and I really do enjoy it when you show yourself catching the bait and showing your fishing gear. You've been making amazing videos and I can't wait for the next one.
@@wildlifefishingshow I came back to the video to watch again and tell you I switched my name from "KD P" to "Flahmas" and I see you just got the verified check. I swear that wasn't there like a couple hours ago but congratulations. Hopefully, that allows people to find your channel and videos much more.
I started throwing big bait’s about a year ago because of your channel I got less fish but I had way better quality fish I even caught a 81.66 pound catfish because of throwing a half of a bug mullet couldn’t have been happier with it
@@wildlifefishingshow that makes perfect sense. Recently I was fishing long nose gar in clear water and noticed they were hesitant to pick anything up off the bottom. They preferred a floating bait or anything they could look up at. It made me think of your floats so I figured I'd ask. Thanks man!
Just went on my first fishing trip ever with my girlfriends dad and I couldn’t believe how fun it was. I’m hooked. Already looking online to get my first rod n reel. Love your channel. Please Lmk if your ever in houston I’d love to join !
Please get a spinning reel, they just are so much better than spin cast and you will not regret it. Get a daiwa samurai, they are thirty bucks of of Dick’s sporting goods and last a long time, they also come in varying lengths and weights so you can fit it to your style
@@mobiledragon3449 I’m getting a 6’6 ugly stick rod from academy. What size of reel should I get if I intend on fishing for largemouth, sand trout and redfish. Also what kind of line should I get?
@@hendrix6516 20lb braid should work great for those fish, and a 4000 size penn spinning reel should do well, though you might want to downsize for bass a little and get a 3500, so you get the best of both worlds for saltwater. If you go to your nearest bass pro or cabelas, they should spool up your reel for you. Watch some tutorials on RUclips because that’s how I learned how to fish. One last thing for saltwater use something called a Carolina rig. You can look it up on google, and it works good for most saltwater species and even freshwater catfish. Edit: maybe get a 3000 if you’re doing more bass fishing, so you can get a better fight out of them. You should still be able to handle redfish and trout with you’re drag set right. Also for saltwater get circle hooks and 20 pound clear line for rig making. Sorry for long comment 😂
I have a couple of questions for you P. What is the leader line you are using? It looks like cordage or a thin rope? I did notice you did not do your normal wait until the Gar stops to eat the bait and when he runs again set the hook. I assume you were concerned with how much line he was taking with his first run, so you set early? Finally If you ever get a scale off of a big Gar show it off to the camera. I have gotten Tarpon Scales, redfish scales and others and would like to compare to what a large Gar has for armor. Thanks!
The leader is 500lb Dupont kevlar braid. Really good stuff. Sometimes the fish will eat the bait while swimming. I find if they maintain their original direction and speed without angling off for some time, they are probably going to swallow it while running. I was also worried about it running under that barge.
My canal like the one you would cast net in is the same but not as wide it has catfish 2 to 8 feet gar from what I seen and average bass is 5 pounds with the perch being about 3 inches
Well, I can see how if you are tossing a 15 foot diameter net, it might be handy to use a full circle before tossing. 10 foot diameter, most likely not necessary.
Absolute beautiful alligator gar man. On a side note how would one go about getting ahold of you I know some incredible gar spots in our area that I've never seen you fish would like to let you in on locations
I bought myself a cast net and took it out once and may have (or may not have, it could’ve grown legs and ran off) left it at the river and am too broke to afford another one, love the videos though
@@wildlifefishingshow oh yes 100% I’m sticking with a worm or a hotdog piece under a bobber for bait from now on, fast net law in my area is stupid strict anyway
Wow Payton this fish is amazing and beautiful I would really want this in my house personal fish pond but I am just afraid that it will eat too much meat which my father don’t like and U can also come to Malaysia and go to the big water dam there has a lot of most aggressive snakehead species.I haven’t caught one but I am aiming to get one this year
@gregweber9575 this will sound like it's not insightful or helpful, but the very best thing you can possibly do is just start creating videos ASAP. It's so much easier to develop every skill in the book once you get started, but getting started is the key. Doesn't have to be the best videos or even what you're picturing in your head at the moment, just anything.
lmfao yeah, im big into reels and rods etc so if i see something that catches fish im likely to get one, ima probably get a 50w soon cus i got a 30 for a rod and its a little small but yeah lol, thanks for the headsup but yeah lol

I like how seasoned fishermen have a pretty good idea what they have caught long before the fish has been seen.
Most of it is due to the bait you are using but sometimes simply how they are fighting
@@batboy3086 I have to kind of disagree with you. I've caught largemouth on shad gizzards and channel cats on rapala rattle traps.

Basically the Sampson effect
@@wildlifefishingshow 😆
How do you decide when to use a float or not? When you see surface activity?
It's usually when I'm fishing slow current with a lot of snags. The float is primarily to help me determine how to navigate those snags.
