    Hi Becca, and Chris
Just a bit of a heads up
I have fitted dozens of the surecal calorifiers
When it’s horizontal on the box that’s because it is meant to be horizontal. The reason you cant undo those bolts on the straps because they are stainless and bind and no one ever has to undo them because that is the way the brackets have to be when you mounted to the floor. if you move the brackets around the cylinder, then the cylinder won’t be at the right position for the hot out and the cold in
Also, mounting it in the position that you’ve got it. That cylinder being horizontal in an upright vertical position. The coil went bleed properly and you will forever be having problems with your engine trying to bleed the water out of it. Heating system
    Won’t ever bleed either
The calorifire won’t ever have a drain, so you could never drain it for winter purposes. Don’t mean to go on. But also the water inlet will be on the top and the cold will immediately go into the hot when you’re drawing off the hot and that won’t work properly. The immersion will be a short immersion in that one and again you will only have a couple of litres of hot water coming out of it instead of a whole tank. Vertical has long immersions fitted
Sorry to be the bear of bad news, but the person who told you on the phone that it was possible to use it was wrong
Also, there is no such thing as a universal one
The one you have can be adapted, but it would have to be engineeringly adapted
If I was you, I would package it up and send it back and order an upright one vertically with the pipes. As stated by previous people will be on the side. Or you could just lay that one down and put it under the bed that you are planning to build Which is what we would probably do, but make sure you put the pressure. Relief valve overflow to outside. Otherwise your lovely dry bilge will be full of water.
I love your RUclips channel by the way
I was late to the party and binge watched you in December
    😃

      Sorry, a couple little typos
      Can’t undo the bolts

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  4 месяца назад +1

Thank you for all this advice, yes you would think the sticker would be the give away, I talked to the guy and he seems to think its fine but I feel very weary of putting it in, It may be easier to return it if we can and opt for a full on proper vertical tank, knowing our luck imagine what could go wrong. I did also wonder if that was the reason behind the bolts. That have also since stoped making the universal ones so you have to wonder if there have been problems in the past. Thank you so much for all this and for supporting the channel, it really means alot

Chris was doing amazing job with the reclaiming of the floor boards. Chris I have to commend you even more this week on your editing, both visual and audio. You were certainly on a roll, and did an Amazing edit. You are a prerfectioniust when it come to your editing, which makes me very happy. thank you for the Dramatic Music, as brief as it was, thus making me want more (the old trick, give them less and they will want more). I sat here smiling right thru thge Vlog as I know all the hard work you have put into the edit. Thank you for that. Becca as always you are doing an amazing job planning out the Calorifier install. I'm so sorry you were poorly at the end of the Vlog. I hope you are a lot better now. Lovely to see "Mrs Duck" back again. You are both amazing, Thank you. Have a great week. Spoolbox

Two suggestions for slotted screws (besides throwing them away and using posidrives). I'm not sure exactly what they're called, but for use with a power driver like a drill, there are bits that have the driver inside of a tube. Some tubes are fixed and some are spring loaded. The screw fits into the driver in the tube and the tube keeps the screw from slipping sideways. I have several that can with the pack of bits you get with an electric drill. The downside is that the screw has to fit the tube. Secondly, there are screwdrivers with little spring clamps on the side that will hold the screw in position. These are also made for crosshead (Philips) screws and in different sizes. Extremely useful for installing a screw onehanded or in a tight spot. Good luck with the calorifier. I still think it would be better mounted horizontally. Oh, and I hope Becca recovers soon. My remedy is to get a glass of warm lemonade and a double shot of Bushmills. Warm your hands with the lemonade and drink the Bushmills. Repeat until you feel better.

Put the expansion tank above the calorifier as the bladders in them can go and you will need to access it to change. Also they need repressurising every 2 years or so. I find the best way to get them pesky flathead screws in is to get the wife to do them, bugger that won't help you!🙂

    Hi Chris and poor Bex,
Bex you asked if there were/are any secrets to slot head screws, simple, chuck them. If that is not an option Screwfix might have a liquid that you apply to the head of the screw and it creates a better gripping surface. Slot heads are always a bugger.
Have a question for you guys. Chris, besides keeping things in order on the Wombat, what types of jobs have you had in the past? Bex, besides stealing wigs off manikins, what type of work have you done, you seem VERY mechanically inclined?

    Hi Becca an Chris.
I’m in Sunny Bedford ( I would like to point out at this point that I am NOT a Bedfordian so you can slate it as much as you want and blame it for anything and everything…because it is indeed a Sh1thole Lol 😂).
I had to move here 14 years ago now to care for my Children ( now adults ).
It’s Monday the 26th and saw Bedford River today and boy has it burst its banks 😳, the River and the Lake have all joined as one !!.
Flathead Screws are a bit of a nightmare, slow and steady is all you can do really but candle wax helps with them going in and also a bit of soap ( fairy) but I tend to use cross heads as they tend to come out better rather than just rounding off !!.
The calorfier I think is probably going to be better horizontal because of the pressure vessel, normally the pressure vessel would need to be higher than the water level within the Calorfier and I think that’s why most of these set ups are Horizontal rather than vertical ( if you see other videos of people’s set ups in their narrow boats or yachts ? ).
Oh dear Chris….you have killed the DA lol 😂. Oh well another lesson learned 🤷‍♂️.
Hope you are feeling better soon Bex, I think everyone has been ill in some way or form lately, with measles, shingles and apparently a New Covid about you need to wrap up warm and get plenty of fluids down your neck…. Nudge nudge Chris….lots of cups of tea is a real winner with the Bugs going around, flush the bugger out is probably the best solution for it !!.
DIY can wait Guys, you both need to concentrate on your Health ❤❤xx

Sorry to always blame Bedford, its meant in jest so hopefully no-one takes it to seriously, Thats awful hope your al safe, is Bedford a flood plain? flat head screws need to be banned. thanks for the wax and soap hack ill sure pass that on to bex. yes were having a bit of confusion with the calorifier..something seams off with it all, could you imagine putting all the pipe workmen and then realising it won't work well that way.Thank for watching and have. lovely week ❤️❤️

@@TheNomadicCrobot Hehehe unfortunately there will always be someone these days who can’t take a joke and takes everything seriously 🙄…..Bollox to them Lol 😂,if they can’t take a joke it’s their problem.
I don’t know if you have heard of SureJust ( they supply calorifiers ) but they have plenty of diagrams of different set ups depending on the model and the type of location and build they are going into ( Rv,boat etc ) and there is also a forum called Canal World where you can find advice and tips !.
Apparently ( I asked a mate) and he was saying that your one looks like a closed loop system ( doesn’t have a drain which would go outside of the boat or to the bilge ) ??.
But unless he can actually see your one physically it’s not easy to say ( apparently there are 240/12 v ones that can be used for RV or camper vans and they don’t have the drain to the bilge or outside ?.
Oh regarding the Screws apparently if you flatten the end ( place head on the ground and tap the pointy end with a hammer ) then they go in no problem 🤷‍♂️.
Yeah,Bedford is pretty flat and there are quite a few Flood plains dotted around that have been ' reclaimed ' for housing ( funnily enough I remember working at Great Denham when it was a flood area and marsh and it was Mud a good few feet deep),actually had a Social Housing home there years ago, which we lost because of me having Cancer,at the time none of my sons were 18 years old so couldn’t look after the house while I was in Hospital so Aldwyk took it away from us !! Nice huh ?.
It was ok there but mosquitoes were a huge problem and the house was modern but very noisy ( town house and you could hear the boys in the 3rd floor when you were in the kitchen 😳).
We ended up getting another house but it is older and better for noise but omg it costs a fortune to heat up the place ( £500 in December for gas and electricity 😳😳)…..windows and insulation is shit !!.
Anyway…. Hope Bex’s is feeling better, ginger and lemon in hot water is a nice drink which apparently helps with colds

    • @moffatt43
      @moffatt43 4 месяца назад

@@TheNomadicCrobot You can say what you want about Bedford Chris,it is a bit of a shithole lol 😂.
Trouble is sooo many people just can’t take a joke anymore, everyone seems to get offended by something that is actually funny?!!. They take life too seriously and basically are miserable shits hehehe 😝.
Yeah,Parts of Bedford are built on flood plains,I actually worked out in Great Denham before it became a huge housing estate, originally it was marshland and in places it was Mud a good few feet thick in places,we actually had a House there a few years after the estate had been built but unfortunately when I developed Cancer we lost the house because none of my sons were 18 at the time so we basically got kicked out while I was having treatment and was in hospital having a lobectomy, lovely people Aldwyk housing association…Not !!.
Stupid thing was, while I was in hospital social services were asking me when I would be out so they could put me and the boys in temporary accommodation 🤷‍♂️. You literally can’t make this Shit up 🤷‍♂️.
      It’s a long story.
We eventually got a House here in Brickhill and we don’t have to worry about flooding over here and it’s quite a nice area as well so bonus, costs quite a lot energy wise but not much we can do about that because the landlord is a bit of a Knobhead and refuses to replace the windows and doors etc,in December it cost us £500 for the month in gas and electricity 😳😳.
Regarding your Calorfier I have spoken to a mate and he said that the one you have is different to the ones that he has seen on other Boats,on them they have a Drain which either goes directly to the Bilge or is vented outside of the Boat, apparently there are Calorfiers that are 12v/240v which are designed more for RV’s and Campers and he wonders if it’s that type you have ? They can be fixed either horizontal or vertical, basically as long as the immersion heater bar is submerged then they work just fine, the pressure vessel must be above the water level though so that’s why a lot of people fit them horizontally and put them under the cabinets or beds etc so they don’t take up as much room.
He said that SureJust are a good organisation/supplier where you should be able to get some good advice from and also there is a Forum called Canal World which is a handy resource for Tips etc !!.
I always replace Flat head screws with good quality cross head ones,it’s not so much about getting them in,it’s about when you try to get the little buggers out ! I ended up grinding a flat head screwdriver down to get a better nice tight fit in the heads of the screws,oh another tip he gave is using a small squeeze of SIkoflex for every screw you’ll use on a boat,it stops the screws from rusting or getting stuck in holes and seals them a treat as well?🤷‍♂️.
Weather has been really weird today 1st March, I think we have had everything in the last few hours, rain, hail and wind and sun ??!!!.
      Hope Bex’s is feeling better.
Enjoy your weekend and wrap up warm.
      Take care ❤️xx

I´m not shure that an ergonome agree with Chris at every position he has when sandening.
I hope Bex hasn't forgotten that there must be a pipe between the calorifier and the expansion tank and quite a few pipes and valves throughout the system.
I mean, if you don´t use pipes I guess you will start all over again with water in the bilge
Don't worry for the water outside your boat, it is where it shall be.

I’m going to throw you another spanner, can the clarifier be mounted either way up as I’d expected immersion elements to be at the base if it’s on its end so whole tank gets hot rather than have thermostat turn off before the bottom of tank gets hot,
Secondly the heating coil. Is likely to be at the bottom end of tank not top. Also from point of view when draining down in winter, as water would flow out bottom and not top?
I hope this makes sense, I’d ask questions, can you mount tank on either end, I’m thinking pipes at base, but I could be wrong

@@TheNomadicCrobot it’s just my ramblings, but usually a vertical mounted immersion tank has elements mounted in side of tank, one at base and another half way up so the thermostat doest turn off whilst top of tank is hot and base of tank is still cold.
If their tanks can be mounted vertically, I’d of thought it would be with plumbing at base, also because when to drain down in winter you’d have to pull out the immersion element from top and pump it out, where’s if plumbing at base you can open a valve or release a pipe and water will flow out with gravity etc…
Another thought I had was ballast, at the moment, your boat is relatively level, if you mount the tank vertical as you’re planning to do on one side of the boat, this will cause the boat to list one side when is full of water, if the tank was lying horizontally under the bed in the centre of the boat, then this would have no effect on the ballast. What’s the stability of the boat.
You’d still have access under MAF dress for storing winter or summer bedding or extra clothing etc… and plus you’d have a bigger wardrobe at foot of bed that ball gown at the boaters RUclips convention 😂🤣
