    I love that Todd is never afraid to take chances with music and just goes with his own flow to be who he IS not what people expect him to be!!! Too many people just see him as some singer in the 70's with 3 hits singles I saw the Light, Hello its Me and Can we still be friends- how sad- Todd is a genius!!!

    i was on the way to NYC on the Greyhound w/ two friends to see King Crimson in The Felt Forum at Madison Square Garden, May 1st, 1974. there was a guy on the bus we engaged, and he asked us if we ever heard Todd's A Wizard A True Star. Nope. he raved over it. the only Todd we knew was pop Todd. we bought it after we got home from what i consider the best concert of my life, and i have seen MANY. (that Crimson broke up just months later. i have seen many versions of them.) we loved Wizard. and we saw Utopia many times. my favorite is RA. i wonder if we hadn't met that guy, if we had become such Rundgren die-hards. and i haven't listened to this in a good while. it is still fantastic!

      I was working at Moog Music Inc in Cheektowaga, NY and a co-worker asked me to go along to see Utopia.
      What a show. Todd played every instrument including Sax and the Pyramid. Since that night I’ve never stopped being a big fan.

    I had the pleasure of seeing this tour in 1977 three weeks shy of my 17th birthday. I was and still am crazy for this album. I probably listened to it off and on in rotation in the ‘80’s and beyond but I bet it’s been 25 years since I heard it. To sit back with a low level of stress wearing quality headphones and enjoy start to finish, it’s nostalgic for sure, but also still sounds so fresh.

    • @melodymakermark
      @melodymakermark 8 месяцев назад

      @AldousHuxleysCat, I can’t recall. I got into the show free because I assumed the duty of an usher in the upper balcony, so I was preoccupied with seating people for awhile after the show started. After a bit, I grabbed a seat and settled into my roll as a fan. It was sooo long ago. I certainly remember Todd climbing that pyramid, but I can’t even recall if there was a frozen glass guitar that night. They had issues with the glass guitar, and it apparently (from what I’ve read since) wasn’t available for every show. Todd was ripping it that night though. Loved his guitar playing/shredding.

    This is an incredible album packed with such stunning songs and performed by amazing musicians that are on top of their game. This for me stands up as one of Rundgren's finest albums especially within the "UTOPIA" catalogue. I remember just relaxing back and listening to this album in my bedroom with the lights switched off and being taken on a journey to another world, great days and still loving this album "RA" - a quality album!

    So thankful that I got to experience the Utopia/RA concert in Tulsa, OK . Todd was playing to benefit saving the "Old Lady on Brady" built in 1918. It was a convention center that was designed like an old Opera House. Seated 4,200 with 1300 seating in the balcony. Best concert I have ever experienced. Too sad that most of Todd's footage of his RA tour was lost in a fire. Does anyone remember that they had water jets surrounding the drums on stage with a Giant Sphinx Head behind the aluminum Pyramid that Todd climbed. WOW!!!

      Richard Schroeder Now that's some excellent excellent advice that all y'all can bankroll yer golden bricks on. Seriously, if you start by listening to the first Utopia LP and work yer way through the anthology; in chronological order. OR, just type in UTOPIA DISCOGRAPHY and browse yer everlovin' arse off. I just remembered something that I have had in my LP-Vinyl collection for a very long time and I cant seem to find out where to get a CD analog...I'll be brief...The album I have is a promo-copy(not for sale), and is autographed by the band. This I know is authentic; I've seen Todd's autograph on a baseball so I know it's the reeel McCoy. One last clue...The album was released @1982 and it's simply entitled 'UTOPIA'-this was also the second video played on MTV, right after 'VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR'. Todd was a real move-n-shaker during those early 80's. Now I know that the Album has 'Hammer In My Heart" and " Libertine", and I think it may have "Cause you make me crazy" ...Again with the MTV thing. Anyhoo, I'm just not RUclips literate so I hope I haven't wasted your time. Thanks, and pass on the Rhubarb if you can...'CAUSE THERE'S ALWAYS MORE

      HI my friend, that Utopia album is great, they're wearing black suits right? That release was only titled Utopia, it was the opening salvo to introduce the Band, not being a Todd solo type of record. Every song was killer, designed for commercial appeal but it didn't fly all that well.
      Actually I'm gonna put it on right now, take care all.

    Hiroshma didn't go quite like that. The War in the Pacific was a war of no quarter. The Japanese were not going to surrender. They fought to the last man in the Pacific Island battles, had suicide attacks on USA ships, and vowed to kill as many Americans as they could in the face of losing territory. The Japanese did not respect American that were POWs, and did not adhere to the Geneva Convention rules regarding POWs. There were atrocities, and some retaliation on the USA side. Not to mention, Japanese atrocities committed against Chinese civilians since 1937. So, it was a brutal war. Hearing interviews by USA soldiers at the time, after Japan did surrender, they were happy the war was over. There was relief, not "fry them", "God is on our side" bravado. The occupation of Japan was peaceful, the Emperor was retained, the USA and Japan became allies, and we know the rest of the story. Yeah the bomb is terrible. May no one today, or in the future, had to experience nuclear war.

    Unfortunately this album was mostly written off as a typical prog rock album. Boy, were they stupid. This album has like 3 genres going on: a LITTLE bit of prog, art rock & a hint of pop rock. Every song really stands on their own, has a new theme, and isn't a chore on the ears.

      the Scottish accent was done by bearsville's house engineer John Holbrook. he's an Englishman trying to do a Scottish accent then afterward they sped up the tape to give it an elfin quality.

      +mojorisen74 Cheers for that info. Sweet Bejasus wouldn't an Irish accent have been better :D I guess you must be an expert or were involved in the recording. I caught Todd live performance of the album at the London Hammersmith Odeon some time around '76. I've been a big Todd fan for many years
