Todd has always been about the music. When I was in college in North Carolina in the 70s, he actually did a post high school homecoming concert at a high school! I couldn’t believe one of my idols was playing at a high school. I went and took a couple of my classmates, who later became fans. The Homecoming Court obviously had no idea who he was, and left quickly. We and my friends were able to go up close to the stage and experience his solo performance. He has been my hero ever since. His ethics regarding making music, being an ethical human being, have inspired me ever since.
I got into Todd long ago when I owned 100's of albums. I was into songwriters such as Al Stewart, Billy Joel and Elton as well.. Songs like "Real Man," "Can we Still be Friends," "Hello it's Me," are timeless pop songs and I still love listening to them to this day. I hope his tour comes to Portland Oregon bcz I would love to see him live!
I saw Todd in the 90s in what I think was the gym of a small college in Japan. There were no seats, maybe two hundred people, and I think I was the only American. I enjoyed it so much that I went back and saw his second show the next night.
Todd truly is a wizard and a true star. Listen to his early music with Nazz and then Runt and thereafter. Great music.
Rundgren is a legend. No one can come close to his song arangments and productions.
well, yes, they can. I love todd, but he is self indulgent and lots of material is poorly engineered. Yes, he has masterpieces.. but to say "no one comes close" is ignorant pathetic fan worship. Bacharach is much more than to as far as arrangements. .. for example.

They both are legends and it’s a shame nothing came from their studio sessions. Both are true visionaries but I would agree that Kanye’s last album was mid-tier compared to earlier work.
I’m not biased toward Kanye but PLENTY of people think he’s a legend
I think what Kanye has done is important but Rundgren is more musically inclined and just a better producer too. Kanye won’t have that because his ego is always gonna get in the way.

Todd is very smart and will pull away from a project if he thinks its pulp and going nowhere. I love the comment "Kanye is just a shoe designer" . That about says it.

also this shoe designer is not even designing these shoes. he likely has employed actual industrial/product designers who do it for him. that being said, yeezy as an entity is worth, what, 2-4 billion bucks? todd maybe right about him being a jackass but theres no question kanye is a top tier artist.

Aside from that I was turned off on Todd when in the song All the Children Sing, Todd state that "the Angel of the Lord," aka precarnate Jesus, "just declared we aren't worth a thing."

What? Before Kanye was a rapper he started as a producer making 5 beats a day for three summers he didnt just push one button he knew how to sample tracks and turn them into instrumentals
