I'm really glad that there are players like you that like to learn and discover things by themselves and truly play the game the way they enjoy it. Some really nice tips for newer players to get into creating their own builds and seeing what benefits them and their group the most in the long run.
Thank you for this video. I felt the same way about designing my character concepts but let myself get discouraged by the “advice “ of unfortunately, the majority of the player base. I never got over level 40 before, because I kept trying to make a fun concept that would also fit what others said was the only way to play the game. Now I’m not so discouraged and I’m excited to make a hybrid concept.
This is exactly the type of builds i like. This game is more enjoyable when you play it your way with still being able to play through all the content. Thanks man, for all your videos and builds. ;)
great video. Finaly someone gets it! I am so sick of people telling me "oh you can't play Stamina Templar as a Nord, you have no sustain". What a BS! My Nord Stamina Templar geared in cheap purple Hundings Rage + Spriggans sets, no monster helmet/shoulders, chills at 21k health, 34k Stamina, 1400 Stamina Recovery, 20k Magic resist, 19k Physical resist, 2700 weapon damage, 32% crit. With only 208 CP and without any tri-stat food/potions. I solo pretty much everything I come across, have very good survivability, very high damage output, endless sustain (I just soloed a really tough worldboss for 20 minutes straight without ever running out of Stamina, constantly dodging/blocking/bashing/healing/killing adds....) And STILL people don't take me for stupid easy dungeons because "you can't play a nord Stam DD"... what a nonsense. Here is the point: play what you enjoy, know the mechanics, and have fun! Thanks for this great video, I wish more people would take it to heart. F*ck elitists.
with an optimized build you would have killed the boss in less than 5 minutes and this is why your build is trash in group content... where you are only supposed to deal damage as a damage dealer...
new player here who has listened to and read many guides. Yours is the first that makes total sense. Thanks for the explanation of how the game was designed, and I now have a game plan!!!
WOW, Thanks Sherman you just helped me to tie everything together that I have been working on and had it in my head but just couldn't put it together. Your approach makes for a better experience to learn by too. I feel, nah, I know I just took the step to being a better, more satisfied player since 2/14, Thank you. BTW I know how you feel about the Kahjiits, I'm that way about the Argonions in all of TES.
Your videos are such eye opener. You already won me over with the video about meta and trinity hurting the game but it’s topped by this one. You sure are persuasive. Are you sure you’re not a car salesman? ;) Great job, again!
this is great your tain of thought is about where i sit for my characters i looked for your channel looking up places to farm mats and such, good video mate
Hi Sherman Love your stuff and try to use some of your ideas in my dk build. I have run a dk stam build (dw/dw), but always feel the poison is not on them (and class stam abilities are all but non-existent). 2h/2h fire drake, hybrid in mag and stam...doable?
Is there a written version of this guide anywhere? I'm hearing-impaired, and with no-one visible in this video to lip-read (and some pretty crazy stuff going on in the auto-subtitles - I'm sure you're not REALLY saying some of the things it claims you're saying!) I found this a bit difficult to follow in places.
Well its just a guide explaining a basic setup you can use to create a build by following certain number value of 20/32 that means if your a dps you want about 20k hp 32k main stat and you can do this with weapon and spell damage as well so you have 2000 weapon and spell damage for tanks and healers and 3200 or higher for dps. But there is more to it then this but this is the start of what I explain. I hope this helps some and will work on another video that is clearer so its picked up better by the voice to text in the next version of this guide.
This is useful, thanks. What you are really saying is that this 20/32 idea is like a bare minimum and also a template to build/adjust around. My concern is, for example, you mentioned Chudan and the thing about 32k resistance; on a build with these basic level stats, you would have to compensate so much on the other stats to get 32k resistance that it would take you 2 hours to kill him, surely? And, rightly or wrongly, you would get kicked from a group for lack of DPS, or for dying all the time. Or am I misunderstanding you?
Don't take this the wrong way but I think you vastly oversimplified why your formula works. And it does work...FOR YOU. Here is what I mean..part of being successful in ESO (and any mmorpg really) is knowing a lot about a lot of things, a lot about the game itself (familiarity with enemy mechanics); and a lot about how to play. Here is an example of what I'm talking about: IMO your formula works because of 1) your experience with the fights; 2) your synergy with any group members and understanding of what/when/how they play their roles and their understanding of your role; 3) your understanding of whatever rotation you use and why you use that rotation. I'm just saying it's more than just 20/32. There is a a LOT more!
Sherman, you've outdone yourself here. This is a wonderfully simplified explanation to understanding what stats to hit for easier gameplay. Once I hit similar stats to this on my Nord Stam Warden I have had a similarly enjoyable & rewarding experience all around. It sounds like if one achieves these basic figures, they can pretty much make any character work that they could dream up. Is there any case where because of a particular race's inherent lack of passives or something, attaining this formula would be impossible? The only question (or problem, I guess) is this: how do we prove to other players that our character is perfectly viable for running a dungeon with them or whatever else you want to do? It seems like if it doesn't meet their idea of what will work, my Khajiit MagSorc gets kicked out of a running for dungeons before I even have a chance to try and play. Despite doing very well at DPS & keeping the other characters from having to carry me too much when I'm given the chance. (I think anyone can achieve if their stats make sense & they've simply put in the practice to succeed, as I'm certainly not especially gifted at all!) This can be so frustrating.
Agreed Turquoise Blue these stat set ups work really well and add a simple solution to those who do not understand how to set up a min maxed character but still gives them something viable to play. And it happens to me sometimes I get kicked for not following what others want but I do not let these type of people dictate what or how I play. I did test this set up with all race class combos and any one works with this even khajitt with there no racial bonus you have to use a few things different like tri-stat glyphs or just have under whats needed in your health or stat.
Well you might not hit the correct numbers do to certain factors like undaunted passive for stat increase and cp but tri-stat enchants on head chest and legs might help. Other then that what system you play on?
I play on PC and have been quite casual since closed beta. only just hit CP finally the other day due to various reasons. All this higher tier stuff is a bit beyond me and im just now trying to get into it. I suppose... a better question to ask might be, as a Magicka Sorc, what stats should i have with no food buffs or set enhancements? What is a good base to start from to work for 32k magicka 20k Health?
Hey Sherman! Im new to ESO! Are you able to hit the 32-20 formula solely on gear enchantsments? Or do you use foods and other boosters to help to get there?
Curious, does this 20/32 still hold in todays game like for Somerset? Ihave been gone from the game for a long time. So looking to get going again.. Like your video, just need to know if anything has changed to make those numbers change?!?!?! Thanks!
for easy unchallenging content yes endgame trials dungeon arenas no, reason not enough damage. to be fair the formula is to simmple and the game is to complex to make it that short. formula for a DD around 16k health (enough to survive mechanics an prevent almost all 1 hit kills) enough sustain to allow you to maintaing a light attack rotation for 2-3 minutes without running out of resources (needs to be ajusted individual for race/class combination), as close to 18,2 k penetration as possible (this value has not be achieved on your own but with debuffs provided by your group, if playing with an optimized group 6k solo penetration is ok if you play solo or cant count on the others 12-13k is decent) around 66% crit chance (more is better) as much main stats as possible (magicka and spell damage or stamina and weapon damage)
My biggest problem is the DPS, so far, no matter what I do (or what guides I follow) I can't go past 6k to 8k dps. I'll try this and see how it goes for me.
It just takes practice to get a good rotation down but do not worry I can normally only break 36k with the best DPS set-ups on my normal stuff its 10k to 20k and thats cause most of them are solo builds.
This is funny, b/c I've been soloing group content for a while now with a Heavy Sorc Healer - and my stats are just about what you said they should be. But you can do better, of course; and as I refine/gain more levels, I'm able to do content I couldn't before.
So I'm trying to make a orc mag dk tank that uses snb and 2h and with a calculator I have 23k hp/ 32k resistances/ 18k magicka/ 18k Stamina 19k spell and weapon damage/45% weap crit / 34% spell crit with no buffs or food... do you think this would be good build for a tank that can do some damage as well? after I setup my skills with buffs and food
Currently CP 320 but I brought up the cp to 558 on the calculator I'll send a link to the build en.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Special:EsoBuildEditor&id=85668 The weapon and spell damage changes when the 2h weapon is selected which is what I'll have most of my offensive skills on
thx you thx you and yes the champions part works on tanks i ve finally got the tanky stats i need for vet dungeons form i just neeed to find a way to get more mana. and thx you for the video
i went with your ideas on tanky stats form champions points and tested it when soloed Fungal Grotto.on vet the first two bosses down both took along time ,right now my dps is not the best, for alot of adds only can get the final boss to 65% hp before dieing but that again this is me soloing it
I am running a healer/damage build and even with gear and all points into mage it is still at only 24k and my health at 18-19k with food. How the hell do you get your stats to 32k mage that is a 8k difference. If I went all max mage on everything I'd get closer but not all the way and would have no room to manipulate my spell damage to 2k...... Is this even possible anymore?
yes it depends on the total mix of glyphs and gear and attributes that make the stat total. I am running 5 suducers, 2 torugs pact, 2 sentinel of kugamz and 3 grace of the ancients and all magicka glyphs and then 46 magicka 9 health and 9 stam and thats how my stats are that high I also run mage light from the mages guild for the extra magicka.
Yep this is still the same as was then as today the only thing that changes is your Champion levels and how many you have but stat values still do the exact same thing. And I do plan to make an updated version of this cause of the champion points.
I will be streaming the 20-32 build stuff this next week. I will be showing off how it works and this is mainly for new players to understand the game play. But with the new changes you might see a change in some builds to have a little more HP maybe.
All your Stats are actually really bad tbh m8. Sure 32k mag is ok, 1k mag Recovery is low, 1900 spell dmg is super low, but your Resistances are good I guess. Also a Tip, the Higher you resource pool is the higher your Spell dmg/ Wpn dmg is. So about 38k Stam/Mag is pretty good.
This was 2 years ago, and I didnt saw the whole video, figured out in the coments it wasnt necesary, but i think he means minimun stuff to do all the content
Yeh this is old but 2k spelldamage lol? I would never go without atleast 3k unbuffed in pve or pvp. And yes stam can do decent damage in heavy armor but magicka can not.
Sorry you could not understand the video and there is nothing but time if you feel you wasted it then that is on you you did not have to watch the video.
No, I did not have to, but I assumed that you'd have something innovating to offer beyond the basic, newbie stuff, so I gave it a chance. My bad! On the positive side, it could* have been more than 30 minutes wasted so one must count his blessings.

Good video - good info on how to make any build work.
Hey thank you.

Ok, am I missing something? He just spends 25 minutes saying that with 32k resource (stam or magic) and 20k health, you can do everything in the game?
Dex I wanna see him do vet hard mode maw with his “formula” lol
Yeah 5 min max to explain his idea I recon regardless of weather people agree or not!
This is useful, thanks. What you are really saying is that this 20/32 idea is like a bare minimum and also a template to build/adjust around. With out food 15k health depnding on race and 27k magicka again based on race cause food can take you over.
thanks mate, I appreciate the help.
Ten minutes in and still no formula. My time is precious, too, you know.
malataur were you just hearing it? Or did you actually listen?
Listened, of course. Ten minutes of generalizations but no formulae were given.
20k hp and 32k in primary stat. You're welcome.

Hey Sherman!
Im new to ESO! Are you able to hit the 32-20 formula solely on gear enchantsments? Or do you use foods and other boosters to help to get there?
You need foods and in one case the undaunted passives for the max stat increase but I think its only Khajitt that falls short.
This was a needed videos its awesome you should update so it’s with your fresh new builds
Man people keep finding this video were I try to first explain the formula of the games design maybe I will do it again with a new perspective.
Wait I'm like CP 220 and I have 44k health, does that mean that 8k of health isn't in use?
Nah your fine its just a basic formula for players to follow.
Sherman's Gaming ooooh ok thanks!
Curious, does this 20/32 still hold in todays game like for Somerset? Ihave been gone from the game for a long time. So looking to get going again.. Like your video, just need to know if anything has changed to make those numbers change?!?!?! Thanks!

TL:DR @4:32 (Max out these attributes) Personally, it's going to take a long time if I ever can achieve this.
Volenfell is fairly easy to solo on my magicka dk. Was farming treasure hunter gear, then decided I liked mother's sorrow and julianos better.
"And I was like........wow........that's cool."
Haha great video btw
So I'm trying to make a orc mag dk tank that uses snb and 2h and with a calculator I have

The weapon and spell damage changes when the 2h weapon is selected which is what I'll have most of my offensive skills on
Not bad the cp setup seems to focused on resistances and not enough on damage reduction.
thx you thx you and yes the champions part works on tanks i ve finally got the tanky stats i need for vet dungeons form i just neeed to find a way to get more mana. and thx you for the video
Glade this helps Erik and keep at it. Thank you for your kind words.

Is this still correct?
I've made an immortal op Healer Woodelf Warden Tank
From this 20-32 formula?
Put the beer down!
Halfway through the a yet to see a formula...
Sorry I did not explain it in a way you can understand there is a newer version out that might explain it better.
Where?
You just ramble on for 10+ minutes saying the same damn thing again and again without getting to the actual explanation.
Yeah , I got sick of watching 3 mins in
will this formula work in PVP??
It should work in both areas of the game but I could be wrong on the PvP side of things.
well it doesnt work in PVE so no lol
a demonstration would have made this a lot more convincing.
I will be streaming the 20-32 build stuff this next week. I will be showing off how it works and this is mainly for new players to understand the game play. But with the new changes you might see a change in some builds to have a little more HP maybe.

Well Besides PvP and HM Dungeons/Trials anyway. But if that's what he meant, then sure it would get the job done.
This is like one of those info commercials.... goes on and on and on... before he gives you the info....blah blah blah
Yeh this is old but 2k spelldamage lol? I would never go without atleast 3k unbuffed in pve or pvp. And yes stam can do decent damage in heavy armor but magicka can not.
🤦🏼♂️🗣💩
This is just 20min of bs
Thanks for your honesty and have wanted to redo this and one of the reasons why I want to take down alot of my older content.
Blah, blah, blah. Pointing out the obvious a dozen times. Talking is cheap and I want my 30 minutes back!
