This is truly a superb CP guide. I'll be called a noob no doubt, but after leveling two characters to max I still simply couldn't grasp every complexity of this system. Thanks to this presentation, I understood for the first time just how CP and our chosen gear, jewelry and glyphs are far from being separate choices. Putting a ton of CP points into an area we have no other investment in otherwise can't play override, at least not in some cases. As in, if we have no healing reduction glyphs or any other gear on our character, putting a lot of points into something like Befoul isn't exactly helpful. That makes total sense, but I didn't truly take in that nuance. I have read the CP descriptions so carefully, listened to other videos on it and have re-speced a couple times to play around with differences made before on my characters, but just never noticed a huge change. Now I understand why. I feel so much more confident now about rearranging my points (and the gear to go along with them). I also love how to-the-point your guides are, neatly organized, visually timed to your speaking well, with engaging presentations on the screen. You don't ramble, you speak clearly, and everything moves at a good pace. I know that a lot of time and care goes into crafting videos like this, so thank you for putting these guides out here for the ESO community. One request: You brought up as an example that Piercing is a good area to put CP into if playing a Stam Warden, as one won't get Physical Penetration as a passive on this build. Please direct me to it if you already have another video on the topic, but can you talk about what characters have or don't have in regards to this type of passivity? I know that the information is out there somewhere in a succinct manner, but I'd really love to hear at least a high-level overview on the topic. I've watched and read a lot on the game, besides playing for a few thousand hours now, but I'm well-aware that I can never have too much knowledge. I always go through the passives a character has or doesn't have before creating it. However, ESO is great at being an enigmatic little beast to fully comprehend. :) It'd be nice to get more detail on these weaknesses and how to overcome them as much as possible. I wanted to gather this info before getting heavily into PVP, and you're good at explaining logically how PVE is similar or different in this type of regard, too. Thank you again!
First of all thank you so much for the kind words, really appreciate it alot and im very glad my guides have been able to help you and explain it in a way that's easy for you to understand :) In regards to your question, a good place to check is a skill calculator like eso-skills.com/ , the UESP build editor or the ESO Wiki and take a look at the skill lines relevant to your class, your weapons and your armor. There you can get a good overview of what major/minor buffs/debuffs, passive and active are available to your class. You can then use that info to make decisions on how to organize your skill bars and plan CP accordingly. For example, Stamblade and Stamden both get Major Fracture from abilities, so they dont need to invest as heavily into piercing as others since they already have it baked into their skills. Or, for example, if you get high penetration from gear, you can focus on other areas with CP as well. It's all a balance and figuring out through what sources you want to get your stats from. Hopefully this answered your question!
I did not know about this calculator. What a great link! Thank you so much for your prompt and helpful response. The site looks like just what I need to review the information that I was looking for. :)
Thanks for your guild and explanations of each of the Trees. I have played ESO for about 3 Years, and am just learning about the game and its mechanics, and builds. You did a very good job of explaining each of the trees, and what they do, I have been trying for a long time to find something like this explanation, so that I can make a better build. Keep up the excellent work.
I wish i could like this video 10 times!! All this information packed together in this video is god sent. The way you went through the layers on CP and how some of them work together was amazing, thank you for explaining this for us with 100% effort even when you were ill, i subscribed 👍 and will look into more of your videos whilst hoping for new content to come.
Ty Dottz for all ur great guides about that game. Because of ur work i started to play ESO today with a friend. Keep ur way with these guides, they help a lot :) .
This was an excellent video! Been looking for a guide like this for some time. It's straight forward, easy to understand for players of all levels, explains the pros and cons of every individual star and how best to utilise them in a build. Fantastic job! Keep up the good work and thank you for your help
Dottz Gaming Ah! That explains a lot actually. Been working on my build for months and survivability is decent but could not figure out why I wasn't doing better damage. Currently a cp164 stam/mag dk with all heavy armor werewolf. Any suggestions for making it better? Thank you so much for even replying in the first place, love your channel and content!
Thank you very much. This is exactly what I needed. Cp distribution was my weekness in building characters, and being able to understand each star in a detailed level is extremely helpful. Thank you again.
However, some things are still confusing. I get you wanting to explain it all in a whole but I find myself having to filter through info that's irrelevant to my build. I have a healer who's backrow is frost (don't judge, it works well) so do I spend cp for just a healer build or do I half and half it between healer and damager? I find have some damage output between heal spells helps the battle. Especially frost which immobilizes most things.
Well for that type of setup, once you place enough points in things like Elfborn and Blessed, you can gravitate towards other stars like Ele Expert to up your blockade damage 😁
Thanks a ton for putting the time into making this. As someone just returning to the game the CP system is pretty confusing; it's very helpful knowing that it's more tailored to my specific build/play style than anything else which helped me save a lot of wasted points that I was only getting 2% or 3% out of.
What would be your opinion on doing a bomb sorc? Its something I've started building and to my knowledge I've never seen or heard of anyone doing a bomb build but with a mag sorc. I'd love to see your take on that type of build
Bombs are best done on a magblade because of cloak. It makes getting into position for said bombs easy compared to other classes who need to run or try and sneak up to a group.
Out of all your videos I have watched i got the most out of this. First thing next time I play I will change the CP points in my top 3 characters off of what I learned here. I actually took notes for myself. I definitely liked how you said the % each star was at max, that was super helpful.
Cheers brother well done! I don't have to waste 3k gold anymore lol. You explained everything thoroughly through your experiences, so i could visualize it easily at 3:30am. Even though you were sick it was still good, and funny too. I no longer have to follow every single cp in builds i watch and read. You deserve more views and likes bro. Seen your other stuff, if i met other noobs like myself i'll send em to your channel ;)
It doesnt need to be updated. The CP stars havent changed since the creation of this video. I make sure to keep all my vids up to date. Glad you enjoyed!
really good video :) i started teso 6 months ago and i'm 326 cp. and the way i spend the points the 1st time wasn't good. thank you for the advices !!!
Thanx for explaining how the champion points work and what benefits u get from most of the stars. Personally going for a mage build so thnx to u i know which stars to put points to.
Just curious on your opinion on staff expert now in the atronach tree. You mentioned in this video that it was going to get better next patch. I wonder if it's worth some points currently. I use a lot of heavy attacks on my healer with resto staff. Appreciate your responsiveness. You're awesome!!
Even though I have no problem being a mage, I prefer my Stamplar to base their points in, obviously Stamina......but as far as points on the constellation wheel, what do you recommend ? Depending on what you advise, I may have to go get points back.
even though this is probably a bit outdated this helped a bunch, i dont know why i thought that direct damage attacks only meant light and heavy attacks for so long
Please get back with me on this, I do have a rather difficult question to answer as I can't seem to find out anything on it. Do sets such as duroks bane scale with the befoul star, or does it only effect abilities such as dragon knight standard?
On my dk tank I invested into blessed early on to boost vigor and green dragon blood. Then I also increased both mag and stam crit to 10%. I dont know if that was smart but the tank does well thanks to the red trees
What's the difference between mighty and master at arms. Which one raises my damage with my bow or sword? Basically it boils down to what's the difference between a direct damage attack and physical damage? Is the physical damage only for DOT and direct damage is for regular hits and abilities?
I am a stamina dragonknight dd, currently cp 92. But compared to other players, my equipment and skill choices don't seem to be the best as I don't do as much damage and also die pretty quickly. I've actually put some (8 o 10?) skill points into health. Now I've put a few green champion points into all three, stamina, health and magicka recovery. Magicka because I use obsidian shard to heal. But to come to my question, what should I generally use to heal? I do also use potions but the cooldown is just way too long for me to rely only on them. On the other side, I often lack magicka to use obsidian shard often enough.
Depends on the skill and how it's damage is dealt. If you're referring to something like Dragon Leap that deals it's damage in an arena INSTANTLY than yes, that's direct dmg
I just got to 160 when you were talking about elfborn you said it was worth putting Point into it when you have around 40 percent crit chance I was wondering how you get that as a tank I mean I know I'm early on and I'm just starting to put sets together but the recommended tanking sets are mostly HP not crit
That's mainly from a dps perspective. Elfborn or precise strikes, depending if your heals come from stamina or magicka sources, is still worth pumping up as a tank since getting a critical heal can be the difference between life and death
Dottz Gaming one other thing when talking about Shadow Ward and you do it other times you say 'if your a tank or using a sword and board put points into it' I thought only tanks use sword & board but the way you worded it made it sound like also DPS use sword & board . is that a thing?
Ok here is what i dont understand. When i look at.my CP gauge in the bottom righ corner i can see the colured arrow quite clearly moving along the line as i get more experience for that particular colour. Dottz Gaming thx Dottz, so stam dk dps should skip mag based abilities ? I'm having a hard time with this game. I only play Nord, so that might be why. I'm seriously considering quitting the game. I die all the time, my character takes forever to kill anything. I'm using the buffs, then dots, then direct attacks. Idk what I'm doing wrong.
Mag based Damge Dealing skills should be skpped, not utility skills. And follow my StamDK leveling build if you arent. That will outline EVERYTHING to set your char up perfectly for success.
I need help with a build. *I'm a dragonknight Nord tank* but too many salty players in ESO pve who doesn't care about the role play and they don't even do much damage then complain I'm just standing there so and so but really I'm trying my best to keep enemies taunted to me. But they don't care so I wanna mix *better damage dealing/ tank build also champ build that I'm looking for.
@@dottzgaming I'll try that just I been joining a lot of sucky group lately that don't do any damage at all letting the enemies pile up on me none stop like a spawning spam.
Is it a constant ringing? if so, that's your device or headphones because i dont hear anything when i listen back to this video on my phone or PC. if there's an occasional phone ring, that's possible because alot of times when i record i have my phone near me.
I've found warlord to be rather useless. I still keep a 10% reduction on it for magic characters but even them I'm starting to use the points elsewhere. Break free is such a broken mechanic. Full 30k stamina bar and being unable to break free sold me on converting its points elsewhere. Plus I do bgs a lot and honestly I just don't feel like it's worth the points to spend on something that works at best 50% of the time
You know what’s so weird, I was just looking up a guide on champion points and then you upload a video on it, number 1 trusting guide source ;)
Perfect timing!

Dottz Gaming This might sound like a stupid question but is there any reason why you wouldn't just wear all heavy armor?
Passives. The light and medium armor passives favor a higher damage playstyle while heavy favors a more defensive/tanky style.

I play a lot of non cp battlegrounds so im cp 522 and have yet to use any cp on my dps
Well you should still slot the cp for pve related activities :)
What is physical penetration
Causes physical attacks to ignore physical resistance
Dottz Gaming Thanks
as a dragonknight is befoul even usefull??
I don't really understand CP, I not sure where to really add them i already over 100 and haven't even sue any because don't understand this much.
This video explains exactly what every CP star does, and there is a video in the description that explains the basic basics as well
Cool Video..
Thank You So Much !! I Destroyed My Friends With This Information
glad it helped!!
I'm so bad at this game lol I've been upgrading random shit. I think ima make a new character
Don't forget you can reset your cp, skill points and attributes
Dottz Gaming ok I might do that
I've found warlord to be rather useless. I still keep a 10% reduction on it for magic characters but even them I'm starting to use the points elsewhere. Break free is such a broken mechanic. Full 30k stamina bar and being unable to break free sold me on converting its points elsewhere. Plus I do bgs a lot and honestly I just don't feel like it's worth the points to spend on something that works at best 50% of the time
I thought Shade was beneficial for people sneaking in heavy gear.
Odds are if youre in heavy, you arent going to be ganking exclusively, so shade isnt going to be as beneficial as other CP stars would be.
you forgot arcanist
No i didnt.
