- 8 inch Plywood Bowl, turned at an angle. It was quite hypnotic while I turned this bowl.
Loads of glue so traditional tools didn't work very well, although the round carbide tool more than made up for this.
I absolutely love this project. It is a real statement piece!

Bravo, that offset did extraordinary things to the final turned product. Well done!
Thank you very much 👍
It's really really really nice and inventive congratulation
Thank you very much 👍
I really like the offset. You created a beautiful bowl.
Thank you very much! 😀
I am going to have to try this.
Good luck! It is a great project to try out.
That is really pretty and I love how you turned it offset.
Thank you very much. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the effect is brilliant. Definitely one to upscale in the future.😎
That offset added a really cool effect 👍
Thank you very much 😀
Mounting it off set made all the difference!
Good idea. 👍
It definitely did! Thank you very much 😀
Use a silicone spatula or sauce battery instead of a glue spreader, works wonders and are super cheap
I really do need to buy a couple. Thanks
Fantastic looking bowl RDM. The offset angle on this was a stroke of genius! Have you thought about creating 'plywood' from semi decent wood just to avoid any voids in the final piece? I'm not decrying use of Starbond (great product) but just to get that (near) perfect bowl... Thanks for sharing this. All the best. Ray
Thanks for the steer Ray. I am currently going through a 'glue up' phase, so I might well give that a try down the line. 😀
i guess Im pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good place to stream newly released series online ?
@Joel Zeke i use Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Eric Bryan Definitely, I've been using FlixZone for since april myself :)
@Eric Bryan thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it!!
Gostei muito!
Thank you 😀👍
This is amazing! Every carpenter I know has a love-hate relationship with plywood but I would never have thought to stick it on a lathe! Incredible work, sir!
Thank you so much for watching. 👍
I've turned a dozen or so plywood bowls. I like to fill voids with fine shavings and the thin CA glue. I love the offset idea. That's going to be my next project. Thanks for the inspiration.
Sounds great! Good luck 🙂👍
👍👍👍😁
Many thanks 😎👍
Interesting project with construction plywood. Interesting result as well.. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
I use a set of small kitchen spatula's to spread my glue. They work great and the glue won't stick to them.
I probably should use something like that, but glue on my fingers reminds me of being at school and making models out of cereal boxes and cardboard tubes.
... почему ты клей всегда размазываешь пальцами?, на кисть или валик денег нету?!
Хахахаха. Просто у меня плохая привычка. Спасибо за просмотр 😎👍
I am going to try this. Thanks for all the links and good photography. Is the offset 10mm?
Yes approx 10 mm. It really does bring the piece to life. Thanks for watching
That is really cool - I'll have to try it. I notice you use Sanding Sealer a lot - i have not used it. What does that do after you sand?
Thanks for watching. Sanding sealer acts like a primer or base coat for the finish. It improves the finish 100% I would strongly recommend! 😎🎄👍
I learn something new from every wood turner. I’m pretty new and need all the help I can get! Seeing you offset it like that opens up so many doors. It’s a beautiful piece sir.
Thank you. It was a last minute decision, which transformed the bowl. 👍
Why does everyone use their fingers to spread glue? What’s wrong with a brush?
A brush isn't as much fun! Glue on my fingers reminds me of childhood times making models and crafting. 😀
Can you possibly give me the dimensions (length and width) of each board. You told us the thickness (5.5mm) of each board and the quantity (11 pcs). I just need the width and length, please and thanks
Hi, I think that they were 8 inch square, so 200mm x 200mm. Good luck!👍
@@RDMWoodturning That is a bit of good information, thank you. I really like your work. Makes me think I might be able to something similar.
I’m gonna have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad to offer a few ideas. Good luck.
By off setting you made a very unique bowl. Well done.
Thank you very much for watching!👍😀
Very cool, but using $600 dollars worth of plywood? Lol
Thank you 😂 I think it was just less than 1/4 of a very thin sheet.
you do not need to invest on a glue spreader finger works fine or a scrap of 1/4" plywood
Thanks. I'm still using my finger! 🙂👍
I was thinking that was good ply as no voids hahaha. Turned out nice with the offset
Thank you! Cheers!
Sound is horrible during sped up turning and sanding. Bowl is nice
Thanks for the feedback, and for watching. I’m going to work on this for future projects. 👍
tres astucieux .cdt du 60
Merci 😎🎄👍🎅
New to turning what kind of plywood is this?
5.5mm hardwood ply. Pretty standard in most DIY stores. Thanks for watching
Hmmm…there may be more glue in this bowl than wood! 😜
😂 quite possibly 😂👍
Great work. This piece it's beautiful. Awesome 😊😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Actually a "cottage industry" repurposing a lot of orphaned plywood scrapes of sufficient size.
Thank you very much. There is no such thing as scrap wood. Anything is possible with enough glue! 👍😀
Was the plywood hard on your chisel edges ?
Very tough, plus I had used loads of glue! This is where carbide tips come in useful!
Is that a bowl gouge or a roughing gouge you started with?
Bowl Gouge. But I should have used carbide from the start! Thanks for watching 👍
Incredible idea
Huge thank you
Plywood can be beautiful and your piece certainly was. Just tilting it that bit made such a difference. Bet the ply blunted your tools fast though! Love your videos, thank you.
Carbide tools really helped with this one... so much glue! Thanks for watching 😃
would be cool if you used a colored resin to adhere the pieces together
Thanks for the idea 😎👍
You can use thin-set super glue and sawdust to fill voids...I love the awesome lines you created in that piece...
Thanks for watching. I was in two minds to use sawdust or coloured CA glue. I think I got away with it, as the voids were quite deep. Cheers 😎😎👍
I greatly enjoy your videos!! I was raised to improvise and make do with what I had.
Your videos are a great example of that with great results!!
Turn on!!
Thank you very much for such a positive comment. It's so rewarding to hear! 😎👍
I'm going to have to get the plywood sheet out and see how it's getting on! Excellent job Roy, (I'm going to call you Roy), I wouldn't have used the black myself, I would have used thin and fine sawdust or coffee. But, hey, , personal choices. :-)
Well turned!
Thank you very much Bryan. Sorry to let you know it's Michael, not Roy 😂
@@RDMWoodturning Ok Michael LOL
now this i have to try
It's loads of fun, but blunts your tools!!! Good luck
Very clever and very nice....good thinking. I have a question: I noticed you used traditional bowl gouges on the outside of the bowl but went to a scraping tool for the inside.....was there a particular reason? Thanks again; Peter
I started by hoping that the traditional tools would stand up to the glue and mixed grain of the plywood. After sharpening my bowl gouge twice, I gave up and went to a round carbide tipped tool. This was a much better choice, but I still managed to dull and brand new tip, just from the inside alone! Hope that makes sense. Cheers 👍
Nice concept by offsetting the attachment. I might try it one day. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you very much 👍
Wow wasn't expecting it to look that nice. Great job & idea!
Many thanks 😊
That actually turned out better than I had expected!! Good job.
Thank you very much 👍
Not enough glue
🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for watching
I like it very much it’s amazing how you make plywood look so good. I also like the offsetting part. Thank you for another great project for me to try. If it half as good as yours I will be very happy. Cannot wait for your next turning 👍👍👍
Glad you like it! Huge thanks 😃👍
I have made many objects from scrap plywood. All kinds of fun doing it. I will try the offset next time. Thanks for the idea.
Making something useful from scrap is do rewarding. Good luck! Thanks for watching 👍
I’m not familiar with the sanding sealer you’re using. Does it give you the finish you show after one coat, or does it depend more on the sanding prep?
Interesting project and good looking results. Thanks
The sealer is brilliant. Just one coat and it’s ready to finish. Honestly it’s a great product. Thank you very much for watching 👍
how many sheets of plywood did u use? chris
10 layers of 5.5mm plywood. I could have used thicker ply, but wanted as many thin layers as possible. Thanks for watching 👍😀
@@RDMWoodturning so thats 5.5mm thick?
@@thestutteringwoodturner9824 Yes 10 sheets of 5.5mm ply
Looks good but why waste your time on making it round before you start to shape it? You automatically make it round as you get the shape.
Thank you. Yeah I probably could have saved a little time, but I was concerned about the stability of the off set mount. Cheers 😀
No idea why 46 people decided to be on Santa's bad list this year. Loved your offset bowl. Keep at it.
Thank you very much. Definitely one of my best pieces. Cheers 😊👍
That turned out really cool. Nice job. Beautiful bowl. The offset made all of the difference.
Yes it does! Definitely something to try again in the future. 😎👍
Have you ever thought of stain?
Nope, but I might give it a go in the future. Thanks 👍
@@RDMWoodturning I've watched 5 videos and it's always cellulose and wax. I just some of these grain patterns would really pop if they had some stain and then sanded back. Just a thought, nice videos though, not too long.
I love it
Thank you
I like it.
Cheers 😎👍
Super!
Thank you 😀
P, to
😃👍
Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice Piece, thanks for sharing. The offset created a cool design.. Full View and Like 👍
Thank you very much. It’s a very interesting bowl.
I liked the offset also....But I would have loved to hear some comments as you work .🤪
Nice effect with the offset. Nice bowl but if I may, awful video sound ! :os
Thank you very much for the feedback. I’m definitely going to try and lower the sound in the editing process for future videos. 👍
Oh my, looks like the storms on Jupiter. Very interesting idea to offset it.
Thank you very much! 😃👍
Definitely need to wear a mask or respirator when turning and sanding plywood the glues they use are not safe to breathe. Great bowl
100% agree - High quality filters are a must!
Thus proving that with enough glue you can do anything. Cool bowl I’m starting one tomorrow. Thank
Good luck! Hope it works out. Many thanks 👍
Nicely done sir very nicely done indeed. The offset turning brings out some very interesting results. It makes one look twice at the pattern. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Thank you for watching! Cheers! 😎👍
👍 Fantastic, surprising result!👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Yo soy de México.
Muy bellos tus trabajos.
Me gusta mucho cuando usas varias piezas de madera para trabajar.
Felicidades my friend...
Thank you very much 😀👍
The offset is a great touch and makes the bowl. Excellent!! Nice bowl!!
Thank you very much! 😎👍 It's still one of my favourite bowls!
Well done...consider a staging area to show finished turnings,,,no visual distractions ...
Thank you. Yes I’m working on clearing a space in my workshop... I just need to have a good tidy up first 🤣👍
That is awesome! Try that again with your blue and yellow in between. Like the other bowl with the yellow and red. Love it.
I am definitely going to play around with plywood a little more. Hopefully I can add some extra colours. Big thanks for watching 😎👍
From simple boring plywood to a beautiful interesting bowl! Stunning work.
Glad you like it! 😎👍
Обязательно изготовлю такую посудину, просто ради интереса.
Удачи. Спасибо за просмотр 👍😎
👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🤗
😎❤👍
Outstanding.Thank you for sharing.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you very much. Yes the off set is the star here!
Lovely video. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up. 👍
Thanks for visiting 😀👍
All that fine glue dust would be very dangerous.
Definitely. Good quality PPE and ventilation is a must!
Hey that's a neat trick! Good job sir. Thanks for sharing 😎
Thank you very much for watching 😀👍
I love the colours that comes out of plywood. Beautiful piece.
Thank you so much!
Nice work! Good idea with your face plate ring to get the offset.
Thank you. It was chance that I thought of it, but what a difference!
Very nice! the offset mounting makes all the difference!
Thank you very much. I've never done one like this before, but it's definitely one that I want to try again with a larger bowl. 😀
Really great bowl brilliant I think I’ll have a go at doing one like that stay safe
Thank you very much for watching 👍
Love the offset. Amazing bowl. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like it!
❤ Most people don't realize how beautiful pallet is ❤
It really is. Thanks for watching
Who would've thought that plywood could be so pretty!
Thank you. It turned out much better than I hoped! ❤😎👍
Great piece. Off setting it works brilliantly
Thank you very much 👍
Very attractive from plywood!

Great use for plywood scraps. Love the offset!
Yes! Thank you! 🙂👍
Awesome bowl! I am going to have to try this!
You should! It's very effective! 👍
The offset worked well.
Thank you. It made me feel rather dizzy watching the layers spin around! 👍
what a great job ,,,,,,,,,,,,,keep it up
Many many thanks 😀👍
Superb.....big like
Thank you! Cheers!
I like those jaded lines in the bowl.
Thank you. Yes I’m really pleased with this effect... although it was a bit hypnotic when spinning on the lathe 😀
Beautiful bowl Jim.
Thank you kindly
