Hi Grandpa - try putting up round poles for the chickens. Like what we have in closets. It fits their feet better than the square wood. It works!!!
Not really, they prefer flat surfaces. Something about the size of their feet. Their feet lock so they don't fall off.
They need flat so not to get bumblefoot chicken sit n walk flat footed un like Birds the claws dont grip around
Just make sure they are wood. Metal can freeze the feet to the pole .
@@kathipetersen2277mine like a 1x1 its not round but lets them grip a bit. Mine wont roost on a flat board. They like a tree brach also. We have some in our coop. Thick ones.

Hi Grandpa, Grandma, and Matt, a Happy, and blessed Birthday Grandpa! 🎉🎂 I hope you had a wonderful birthday Grandpa. Oh, I just love y'alls bird feeders. I surely do wish I could feed the birds at my house, but, well, there was a time, some years ago, when all the birds were fed here; my daddy used to love watchin all the birds come to eat, and he bought all kinds a feeders so him and my momma could watch em together. Momma loved the birds too. Well, after daddy passed away back in 2005, my younger brother Kevin, he had moved in here, and when daddy died, Kevin took all momma's bird feeders, and told her, you ain't gonna feed them dirty birds no more. Then he threw all of em out in the garbage. Broke mommas heart. Well, anyways, I'm ever so glad y'all feed the birds grandpa, bless y'alls heart. Y'all always take care of all the animals. I've seen other farmers trim all of their birds wings so they won't fly over fences & become coyote dinner. They gather eggs from nesting boxes so I take it the chickens can get into the nesting boxes with trimmed wings. Good to see you feeding the wild birds. Ralph, I'm glad you made it ok after your fall. I'm finally recovered from my fall & am trying not to repeat that. You & Matt were so silly looking like you were eating the wild bird food!! I loved it!
Yes, she will still be able to roost and nest. “Country Road Cure” even has a hen with only one wing and she can even still get around. They can jump much higher than many people think. 😊

Some might think its funny but at our age,(I'm in my 60s also) it could be life altering!! Thanks again for the entertainment guys. You feed wild birds too?? I just love my bird feeder! The Cardinals in the winter are beautiful against the snow. We get dozens of them with Black oil sunflower seeds. I hung my feeder outside my kitchen window. Even though you clip the wings the birds can still flutter up a short distance so they should still be able to get into the nesting boxes just fine. I was waiting for you to tell that more birds were getting out. It is like the power of suggestion with chickens.

Ralph, will kitty litter buckets fit inside your nesting boxes? If they will use them to block the nests at night to stop the mess in the nest. Another option would be to fix the bars so they can flip up and close the nests off at night and flip them down in the morning when you go to feed. It shouldn't be real difficult to alter so they could close up!

Good job fixing the bird feeders. Chickens love to get out. You might consider making the entrance to the dog pen a double gate area. You could use a simple 3 ft. Chainlink gate and put a small fenced area between the gates. That way you open the outside gate and step in , close it after you enter the small fenced area and then open the inside gate to actually enter the inside area. Even if they run thru the inside gate they can't go anywhere because the big outside gate is closed. Hope your photos come out right. You too are true comedians- you never miss an oppertunity for popping jokes. I love it.

Although I noticed that Matt dropped the piggies bowl's too close together.
Matt I'm so glad you asked your dad how you can get the piggies to eat the way he does.

How you go around in circles, & drop One Bowl here ,
one bowl there, & another Bowl someplace else.
You always put a certain amount of space in between the bowls.
I also noticed when You feed the wormies,
You feed them down low.
When Matt fed the chickens wormies alone,
He sprinkled them very sparingly,
from the scooper, high up in the air, above his head.
It didn't look like the chickens got very many wormies because they didn't know they were there on the ground.
Matt you did a beautiful job!

****🌺Ralph, if you get some scrap pieces of sheet metal and you put it up around each wooden side of the poles on the bird feeder, then both the cats and squirrels or rodents cannot climb up the poles to get anywhere near the bird feeders!! People who have a lot of bird feeders and also the bird houses always put this around any of the wooden surfaces that go to their feeders. You'll notice that once again, you and LeeAnn, as well as your guests will be enjoying watching all those birds again!! Best of luck to you all. God bless you, your family, and all of your animals. Do those beautiful dogs ever get to run and play? They probably do, I just don't get to see them. I know they wrestle with each other but would love to see them run, it:s so good for them. I enjoy watching Grandpa and Grandma and your love for God, your children, grandchildren and all your farm animals. I am retired, a widow, and am now 79yrs. old. I think my two favorite moments of your u-tube are the dogs, because I love dogs and always had one in my adult life, but now live in a condominium with no fenced in back yard. I really don't enjoy walking a dog in rain, cold and snow. I may get a kitten. The other part I enjoy is when Grandpa and Grandma are sitting in your rockers and talking with your viewers.

Thank you for showing the bird feeders for the other birds. This is what I like hearing on farm videos.. the different various small, wild twee-pee birds singing their song in the background, in addition with the noises of farm critters or domestic critters. For some reason to me, it just makes outdoor sounds seem so "complete".
