Big Joe was a game changer, for the boks as well as world rugby. He was in a class of his own and combined with Bobby they were like having an extra 2 centres on the field with their ball skills.
Great video as always! I can't help but spot certain players every time I watch one of these. In this case, have you ever done an Ashwin Willemse video? That would be interesting as well.
@RealRugby there is plenty of RUclips footage of him at Toulon. He was inducted into their rugby hall of fame alongside Jonny Wilkinson. Legend at Toulon.
@@PieterGildenhuyslots of footage of him on RUclips playing for Toulon. Just type in his name to RUclips 4 the videos. Was inducted into Toulon rugby hall of fame alongside Jonny Wilkinson. They loved him in Toulon. Hugely inspirational captain of that great Toulon side 2009 until 2014.
Yes and he was so loved and appreciated there as their best ever captain and was inducted into their hall of fame earlier this year alongside Jonny Wilkinson. A lot of springbok greats played at Toulon but Joe is the only 1 to be inducted into their rugby hall of fame.
My favourite rugby player during his time. It's sad that he's somewhat been forgotten.
4:43 forget how fast and good stepper Montgomery was. His kicking immaculate overshadow what a weapon he has all round.

And Andrew Aitken.
and Rassie in the beginning
and rassie ..... that loose trio
The way Skinstad got his hands around Mortlock & offloaded in the tackle was sheer brilliance
looks like he had time to bring him down too…?
So underrated!! A great great rugby player !! 🇿🇦
One of the best!!!
One of the most underrated great Springbok no 8's...
I was the ball boy at he SA trial game in 2002, was such a big JvN fan
One of the most underrated great no 8's of all time... Joe van Niekerk...
Even in high school he used to break off the scrum and run around the opposition wings to score spectacular tries. A dream to watch
Keep these videos coming - some cracking archive footage there!
Miss this great Springbok.. Dynamic...
How did I manage not to remember this guy
Brilliant player
Jah bless
Man Joe was good
If you look at other clips of his career you will notice he was a king at try assists, especially when playing at number 8 off the back of the scrum.
Jah Bless
hes one tough dude bro
Should have been included in 2007 and 2011 rugby world cup

njabulow Ashwin is in our pipeline, although we don't have that much footage of him
Understandable, thanks!
still waiting on the John Daniels tribute.
Duwayne Lombard did we commit to doing a John Daniels video?
no but would you be so kind on doing one please
No coverage of his time at Toulon?
Don't have the footage
@@RealRugby apparently he was a massively inspirational figure & leader there. Much revered even lately according to Giteau & Drew Mitchell

This era had so many world class players but poor administrators for S.A rugby
Nothing against Aus or NZ :/ 2003 was tough times

He had a brilliant career at Toulon after the Bok administration forgot about him…
