    You can see the playstyle evolving. You very rarely see players passing to their teammates while being tackled anymore. The game has changed to where everyone goes to ground, ruck, restart. The old rugby rules seem more fluid.

    As an abs fan good to remember the old foe. My best memory was of the januarie try in 08. I was at that game in Dunedin and a giant fight broke out between an arrogant abs fan and a springbok fan. Unfortunately the abs fan got a well deserved broken eye socket and my team went down in a tight match lol. In town that night a big party and good times were had by all.

      I was in a pub in Wimbledon - mostly Saffas but one table of Kiwis who I think were there so they could watch their team win surrounded by the opposition. They were very loud until Ricky scored that try and the whole place when absolutely and utterly nuts. Was awesome - and they stuck around to get drunk with us afterwards as well. I was never a huge fan of Ricky but I will never, ever forget that try and will be forever grateful to him for scoring it - that pickup as well - I have no idea how he held onto that ball.

    Watch again at 00:45 When was the last time we saw a Springbok backline move like that, the old classic principle of passing the ball in front of the next man, who runs into it - fluent as can be. These day, it's usually standing passes to standing receivers, very stilted. We need to force players (and the coach) to watch these old tries to remind them, no matter how ' the game has changed' - it has not changed when playing from first phase.

    Ricky January's try was special because it was the last ever match played on a field where the All Blacks had been unbeaten forever. It was at the death and won the game. Epic.
    On another occasion Robby Fleck was dropped from the Bok side and got recalled at the last minute because somebody got injured. He scored two tries that day - both individual efforts, and it won us the game.(Newlands?) Those were not shown here I think, but what was is an offload from Robby. I was under the impression that he had never done that.

    • @SuperEdge67
      @SuperEdge67 6 лет назад

      Gary Lakey ‘ From 2007-2009 The Boks murdered everyone in sight ‘.
      During the years 2007 -2009 The ABs played the Boks 8 times. .....4 wins each. This represented a good period for the Boks as since the end of apartheid the ABs have dominated them. During the period 2007 - 2009 the biggest winning margin for the Boks was 12 points......the biggest winning margin for the ABs was 27 points. Just the facts without the BS. I admit I’m an All Black supporter but NO ONE matches them for intensity and they have the record to prove it. I have watched rugby for 45 years. Perhaps you are either a South African or an All Black hater. Perhaps the ABs beating the Boks 57-0 last year wasn’t ‘intense’ enough for you.

      staaldak Interesting comment. Do you think the All Blacks are able to select on merit? If so, then why is it the case? How did they get those Fijians and Samoans to become so good? Did that all happen by magic or did they have a serious NON-RACIAL development plan in place since forever?
      South Africa has a seriously defective background with regards to the equality of people. If you keep on selecting the so-called merit WHITE players, please tell me about the development plans in place to bring ALL colors of the nation up to scratch. Do you really think that rugby should be for WHITES only?

    • @kdkd693
      @kdkd693 5 лет назад +6

      kevinr ruiters No. I think he was saying merit based selection of your first team based on performance. Nothing to do with race, as per NZ selections - if you are good enough, you get the jersey that week.
      You are arguing equal outcomes as opposed to equal opportunity. Just like the current day feminists, equal outcomes is forcing against human skills not for. I am for equal opportunity only - and so long as that is there, I don’t care for the outcome being ‘unequal’ in numbers of players. Skill and ability to produce results is the key to best ‘rugby outcome’.

    • @kdkd693
      @kdkd693 5 лет назад +4

      kevinr ruiters I do recognize your desire for equal opportunity for all races. I totally agree. From what I have seen, there is at least that now? More or less.
      But after equal opportunity is achieved, must then come selection based on merit and then you’’lol produce the best SA Springbok results again - potentially better than the good old days given the increased population of rugby nous now afforded by equal opportunity.
      The SA black wingers are fantastic, more than matching the ubiquitous Fijian sourced wingers for pace. And Habana was the best ever IMO. Plus there are fabulous Trojans such as Kolisi and Mtarawere who have been top notch forever. Have faith, as I do, SA will be atthe peak again soon and as an AB supporter this is welcomed!

    Some of those were really awesome and innovative tries.
    Sad to see how so much of rugby has become structured and formulaic.

    All Black fan here and I must say there are some very nice tries. Disgusting what's been forced on your Rugby.

    Januarie's try again the All Blacks in Dunedin, I call the Fire Alarm try. We were living in Wellington NZ and me and my wife were the only ones in the entire bar wearing our Springbok jerseys. Everyone else in black. When he scored the try, the All Black supported disappeared as if the Fire Alarm had just gone off. :)

      Not seen in Super rugby from the SA teams as much anymore. Watch the Crusaders of the past 10+ years, so much confidence in someone always backing up. Thats where the confidence to trust offloads in every tackle comes from. Devastating to defenses when you think you have nailed the ball carrier and slowed the pace, to find an offload speeds the pace and another break is made.

    Man that TRI by the BIG BOPPER PROP is one of the greatest tri's I've ever seen. As a number 7 in my playing day. I hate the back's and loved to to smash em at training back's against forward's 😈👍😃 Forward's are better looking smarter faster more understanding caring and most of all never Dirty. As apposed to those weak link Back's 👍🏽🖐️

    I was, depending on how you see it, incredibly lucky to stand with Joost Van Der Westhuizen in the VIP box in Brighton in 2015 when Japan beat the Boks, while that game didnt end well, seeing Joost be so important for so many of these tries really points to how iconic and incredible that man was for the bokke

    If SA wants good black Springboks, take it to the townships, especially the township schools. So much young talent and skill unaccounted for.
