I really want to thank you so much for explaining it so clearly, it works wonders. I couldn't run for a long time after an injury, and after a few workouts, the old familiar knee pain appeared. I know that pilates and strengthening the deep gluteal muscles will help, but until I get into shape, I can keep training without pain thanks to your video. You have my many thanks, sir.
I have been suffering thru this for over 2 years. I have gone through 2 separate Physical Therapists that at times were addressing my ITBS in all the wrong ways. Now, I am seeing a Sports Medicine Physician who specializes in ITBS just like you. I am sick of addressing the pain and now want to treat the source.
If the pain is on outside of knee then is probably ITB pain and this tends to come on whilst running. If pain is on the front of the knee and hurts walking downstairs then probably patello-femoral pain syndrome. Hope that helps. JG
Thanks for the video. I have seen lots of videos about treating ITB but non really explain where it comes from. I am a keen runner and over the last 6 months I have suddenly been unable run more than about 5k without severe ITB pain. I'm curious what the cause was so that I can remove or change my habits. Having a job which means I sit down all day probably does not help in terms of glute strength but I have been doing a desk job for years now.
I have pain in the lateral area of my left knee, aggravated by cycling. I injured my knee on holiday using excessively long cranks, 3 weeks ago. I am fine doing strengthening exercises but cycling still exacerbates the issue. Seems like an ITB issue. Would you recommend this taping technique, and would you advise not cycling at all until the pain is completely gone? It is around a 3/10, so not awful. Thank you!
Try taping and short term change the seat height a little or the foot position as that normally helps - if not get a 'bike fit' person to have a look - regards JG
Thats nice tape you bought .it makes it so much easier than tradicional bandages an l can quickly apply it to my pacientes an they trust me more than when i'm fumbling around with a tune of bandaging an accidently apply it wrong an have to reapply .its exasperating ...
Excellent explanation! I play soccer and run as hobbies, and I had this injury 3 days ago. I applied ice for inflamation and started to do stretching exercises for the iliotibeal band; and I wanted to know: if I use this KP tapes as you showed (and keep on doing the stretches) when will I be able to start running and playing soccer again? Thanks!
Glad you like the video as I like those type of comments. When you have no pain for at least 2/3 days then a short run might be ok but remember the lateral knee pain of the IT Band is typically symptoms and not the underlying cause so you might need too see someone like me to look for the cause. Good luck
I have had ITBS friction for 4 years now. Unable to run, MRI shows small amounts of damage. I really miss running. would this help alleviate the knee pain that I get from my ITBS? or do I have to tape differently?
+Devyn Rohwedder The taping will only reduce the symptoms but won't treat the cause of the problem - try and see someone like me as the majority of IT Band pain is from a miss firing gluteus medium muscle. Good luck!
Tori Wright I demonstrate with KTape as it will work the best as other tape especially Athletic rigid tape won't work as well so try it and let me know what you think!
Great video! When I extend my both knees, it hurts at the lateral tibia condyles (not as shown in the video at the distal femur condyles!). I run 10km yesterday so I know that's the cause of the pain. Do you think it is normal that both knees hurt? And should I tape just like you did in the video (and set the 2 small stripes a bit lower)? Greets from a physiotherapy student from Germany :-)
Do you know what could help ... my left outside part of my knee hurts but the pain also goes to the middle of my knee and it hurts when I start walking or when I've been sitting down for long and then stand up PLASE HELP ME IM IN PAIN 😭
Thanks for the message and it is difficult for me to comment on your knee without looking at you - if it hurts as soon as your foot hits the ground then it could be the lateral meniscus, if it hurts walking but mainly running at distance then the IT Band - either way i would get someone to look at it but the tape will help short term to reduce some of the symptoms. Good luck and happy new year. JG
Good video, thanks. I've had ITBS/pain over the bony protrusion of my left knee since summer 2013. Stretching and hip strengthening (Fredericson Protocol) don't seem to be helping. Pain only presents during cycling and never enough to prevent, just a niggle, but is this taping method just to treat the pain, or can it get to cause/loosen the band? I've had to quit my gym, as increasing intensity of activity, say via spin class, is what makes it worse, not overuse. Suppose I can try this an the plunger/suction release....Cheers, Dan
Hi Dan, thanks for the comments and this taping technique will reduce the symptoms only. Most patients that cycle tend to have a Mal-tracking of the patella caused by weakness of the inner quad muscle (Vastus medialis) and an over activation of the ITBand, which tends to pull the patella laterally due to its attachment to the fascia. Try this: Strengthen the inner quad muscle (VM) by doing isolated end range knee extension exercises and also try to strengthen the Gluteus Maximus and Gluteus Medius as this will hopefully off load the ITBand, leave stretching and foam rolling the ITBand alone for now - well for at least a week or two and try what I say. Good luck
I'm kinda having the same problem, on my left knee (partial replacement inside of knee) pain on outside of knee sometimes goes down the front of the shin bone. Knee sometimes is weak. Have kt tape on now but doesn't seem to be helpful. Should I go back to surgeon, replace in 2019...
The symptoms are probably related to the partial knee replacement and the tape will only reduce some of the symptoms - perhaps see someone like me first as naturally the surgeon might consider an operation that might not be needed, regards JG
@@JohnGibbons already surgery completed 5 years back but now suddenly comes pain. I'm not able to doing speed workouts. I have tournament within a week. Most important competition for me. Plsssssss help me. I'm also doing some strength exercises and apply how water and ice twice in a day but no results please help me
I would try and see some like me as there are many reasons why you have knee pain and to answer without actually seeing you is difficult, in the short term try the taping as i am sure it will help. Regards and happy new year, JG
Overpronation (flat feet) can be the cause of pain in the knee, maybe see a specialist like a podiatrist as they can assess the biomechanics of the feet. Good luck
I get pain around my fibula joint at the side of my knee, thinking it is from the lateral collateral ligament, not certain as dr's scratch their heads and tell me they can't pinpoint the problem. I get an aching pain down the side of the leg. Do you have a strapping technique for this??
+kingswoodhj76 I doubt it will the LCL so look at the Peroneal Nerve as that can cause an ache in the lower limb, also rule out a stress fracture of the neck of the fibula (if you are a distance runner) or lateral meniscus tear as this will give you a similar pain. Good luck!
Sir thanks for sharing So nice informative video . Can patient take bath while applying this tape ? How much duration it should be kept ? Waiting for your reply Thank You very much.
Unbelievable, applied this for first time today, went to a Fitness Pilates class and no pain on squatting! Brilliant thank you.
Fantastic!

Will that deactivates that muscle
If the player wants to play with tap should we do from origin to insertion
Doesnt really make any difference as no proof - the tape might reduce some symptoms, regards JG

Any tips for determining if you have IT band problems or patella femoral problems?

Is it normal only 1 of my knees hurt when i run ?
Most people only have pain in one knee when they run so yes it is very common

Hi! Which brand of tape do you recommend using, please?
i realize I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream new series online ?
@Darian Genesis i watch on FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)

@Thaddeus Joseph Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !
