    I went to a Lymphoedema clinic today and showed my swollen knee to clinician who put kinesiology tape in this fan pattern - I had immediate if not total relief and whereas I was unable to bend my knee enough to wash my feet this morning, this evening my knee is bending much further and without pain. I'm amazed quite frankly.

    Hi! I get random knee effusion with minimal pain about 1-2 times a year, and I've just tried this technique to reduce the swelling. It feels better immediately! It's so empowering to take care of this myself and not have to seek a physician's help to (painfully!) drain my knee. Thank you!!

      Brad whiston Thanks for the great comments, as long as you have swelling then this technique is one of the best to help reduce the swelling and pain, but you can also try the other 2 techniques I have for general knee pain and full knee taping. Good luck

    Hi! Great tutorial!
    I just have one question for you: Can you appy two different techniques of applying kinesio tape on the same joint?
    I want to apply kinesio tape on my knee to stimulate lymphe drainage (so it will hopefully reduce the swelling in my knee) But I also want to apply a different technique of kinesio tape to support my patella. Is it possible to apply both techniques on top of each other?
    I tried searching the internet but couldn't find the information I needed. Hope you can help me out!

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  10 лет назад +1

      I would try one at a time first but if you want to add a piece of extra tape for the patella then it could work, might be worth a try. Good luck.

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  6 лет назад +2

      Hi, I have a 'full knee taping' technique on here and also a 'general knee taping' and both will stabilise the patella and also assist in removal of the swelling, so try one of them first rather than mixing two techniques and see how it feels. Good luck, regards JG

    I had an ACL surgery 7 weeks ago and have a lot of swelling around the patella to the extent that it is not visible. Will this tape help? How long should I wear it For? In which position do I keep my leg after applying the tape.
    Thanks for all the help.

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  6 лет назад +3

      This technique will help for the swelling and you can also look at my other kinesiology taping for the knee joint as they will help as well. I would leave the tape on for 3-5 days, a day or two rest and then reapply. Hope that helps, regards JG

      You want the tape to be wrinkled when you straighten the knee. This allows for more space under the skin, for swelling to dissipate.
      Skin will be convoluted, like a piece of cardboard.

Could I use two fan strips, anchor them on either side of the nipple (1-2cm away from the nipple) and cross over the point of pain? Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    I need some advice please. My knee has been swollen for 5 weeks now and have I not fully recovered. I have been bed bound 2/3 weeks then I have gone to around the 80% recovery stage but that’s it unfortunately. This is the 7th time my right knee has swollen up but never for so long! I am over 30 and overall healthy but do suffer from psoriasis sadly and yes it’s on my knee but mainly scarring not currently present and active on my knee. I have been Doctors done blood tests and X-Rays they have found nothing no Psoriatic Arthritis no infection nothing and I am simply taking strong pain killers and using the RICE method to my wits end. I have no clue what to do now I am waiting for the Rheumatologist to let me know of my appointment and apart from that I am struggling to work and live a normal life. Today I went to work and guess what? My knee swelling went worse and I hardly put any pressure on the knee, I just tried to walk minimum amounts as I’ve been advised to get the blood flowing around the knee to help with aiding recovery? Please someone help any advice appreciated and God bless. Sorry for the long message :(.

    • @JohnGibbons
      @JohnGibbons  3 года назад +2

      There must be a reason for the swelling and an X-ray is ok for 'general' stuff but wont show any damage to the soft tissues like the menisci and ligaments so i would request an MRI to see exactly whats going on and take it from there, regards JG

    I tried this tonight (my new PT did this for me but we forgot to redo it last time I was in), but I got the ‘fingers’ of the tape a bit too low (on the shin rather than patella), so I just cut two more of these and added to the top of my knee, so instead of two tape things there’s four-is more better, or should I start over? The last two tape things aren’t really to the side of my knee but rather closer to the center of my lower thigh

  • @helen4641
    @helen4641 7 лет назад

    Why do you not put any stretch on the tape? I thought you are supposed to stretch it, I'll have to read more about it. I've got very worn medial meniscus on both knees and swellings below, that a doctor said was brown fat, it's tender underneath the swellings. I applied K tape to see if it will improve lymphatic drainage, do I not stretch it? I want to try and get rid of the lumps and ease knee discomfort. Do I leave the tape on for as long as it will stick on? It was still on at 5 days or does it lose its effectiveness?

    • @fabriziolottici4684
      @fabriziolottici4684 7 лет назад +1

      Helen in order to obtain a draining effect do NOT stretch the tape. Apply it with zero tension on the bend knee, so when you will extend the knee the tape will form many many micro ondulations and cause a vaacum effect

And ive lost 76 lbs so far, But I have to exercise and my knees "give out" or "dislocate" or whatever you want to call it if I twist or take a step wrong, and If I tape them up the wrong way its worse, but if I tape them the right way its a god send.. Its just things sort of look in a different place on a fat LEG and Knee.. I have torn MCLS So I try to just go for FUll knee support on both for simple walking .. But I feel like Im doing something wrong because when Im taping them up now, they are giving out more, I dont get it the more I lose weight the more they seem to be getting weaker..

      Well done for loosing the weight, it must be so hard when you are trying and you have constant knee pain. You are right as well as therapists (yes like me) demonstrate techniques typically on slim patients, which for some people is unrealistic because they are not slim but still want to have the tape applied to them. What I will say is to try ad replicate what I show on my Knee taping videos (not just this one) and if it helps you exercise and subsequently loose weight then it has worked. I wish you all the best and keep going....regards JG
