ZL1 is more than just a supercharger. Its got the forged engine that can hold well over 800whp stock form, and the much stronger 10 speed trans that can handle over 800tq. You will need to build the 1LE engine and trans to hold anywhere near that power. The potential on a ZL1 is way way higher than a 1LE.
good point but with the $25K price difference you could take that cheddar and make the SS a ZL1 killer easy. Yes the ZL1 has more forged components but it just always going to cost more money.
@@SDGlock23 by the time u apend all that money on forged engine, FI bolt ons, built trans, might as well bought a ZL1.
Another zl1 ignorance 🙄 believing that paper 550hp on zl1 is better than 1le ss. That is the reason we got zl1 for people like you that don't know anything about car enthusiasts.

My 2ss fbo (495 whp) got wrecked last Monday. I'm awaiting to see if it's totaled, if it is, do yiu think it's worth it to upgrade to a zl1? Also, is the zl1 too much to handle with a stick?

@konopandada7872 sorry to hear that man, and I completely get it
Really great comparison! I have a 2018 1LE myself and wanted the mustang at first. I can confirm after driving both the Camaro makes the mustang feel like a wet soggy paper bag
What were some key performance/handling traits that you found to be stronger in the Cam vs the Stang
@@jdchav9383 in my opinion having driven a PP2 Mustang and GT350. The SS 1LE walks all over the PP2 Mustang the true competitor is the GT350. The Camaro has better steering much more direct than a GT mustang. The chassis in general feels much more sporty in the Camaro. My recommendation is if you're looking for a comfy everyday cruiser that performs well the Mustang is your best bet. If you're ok with sacrificing a bit of daily drivability for those back road days the Camaro would be my buy. I daily my SS rain or shine and the trade-offs are worth it to me.
Yeap Camaro is Best. What's a rapid Mustang compared to Chevy Camaro😍
@@jdchav9383 Torque and handling were dramatically better on the Camaro, Tremec over the MT82 as far as transmission is not even in the same league, as a matter of fact I think the Mustang switched to the Tremec, but its not the 6060 Chevy uses, its the 3060, which doesn't hold nearly the amount of torque.
Also, if you track the 1LE in stock form, and anything happens, G.M's warranty covers it, Ford doesn't cover track activity.
Agree , the Camaro is a better sport car. I wonder why they don´t sell as much as the Mustangs, hard to understand why.
I have and ‘18 2SS 1LE with all the bells-ambient lighting, Bose, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel. One of the best sports cars I have owned and i have had corvettes Chevy guy. You’re right only difference is the supercharger.
Do u have wheel hop support
big only
Its NOT the only difference..............engine and trans (A10) are worlds stronger than the 1LE.
People act like they can just boost a 1le and they have a zl1 for cheap. The engines are forged to hold the power and suspensions are setup for the weight distribution as well.
@@IamR3D88 exactly the going to spend all that money to get to stock or slightly higher whp than a ZL1...reliably. No we not talkin about the dude on youtube that dynoed 700whp on his stock LT1....its a ticking timebomb. ZL1 laugh at 700whp........
Has to be a nice car if RP kept one for a year and has owned 2 Camaros
He was buying a house so couldn’t run credit, it’s also for sale and has been for a while now
Without a doubt the 1LE has the best looking OEM rims, not only do they look great they're concave which is almost unheard of for OEM's.
Agree 100 percent. Best looking wheels I’ve ever seen on a Chevy
I have a 21 2ss with a procharger put in, now making 591hp to the wheels. Best thing ive ever done
What psi & supporting mods?
The facelift iisss growing on me, BUT I still think the 16-18 looks better
2020 fixed the face lift. The 2019 is the one you need to avoid
Agreed man! The OG '16-'18 front ends were SO friggin sick and nice looking! The '19 SS front ends are the only ones that I thought Chevy kinda lost their minds with, the '20 SS is so much better with only 2 minor but nesceary changes. But I think the refresh is too 5th gen camaro like... They should've stuck more with the 6th gen OG styling. Those were badass looking cars! But yeah, I still prefer the OG styling of the 6th gen. These new ones are good but isn't as interesting to look at in a way, if that makes sense.
The 2020 facelift makes it look like it has a mustache.
@@zero00-100 not really, I can see what you mean, but to me It looks like a really wide devils mouth with fangs on it. lol
I still like the halo eyes instead of the guy liner look on the newer headlights.
And a shark tooth grille.
The upper grille looks much more aggressive in the 16-18 model. Which is why Chevy kept that look for the ZL1 through the 21 model. Tho I’m not too sure why they proceeded to change the look for the other models.🤔
Both gorgeous cars. I have a 2016 bumblebee 2SS with sunroof, black rims and stick. Love that car. Not sure I’ll ever really find something to replace it with. Got it for $34,000 with 18,000 miles on it about 4-5 years ago.
Zl1 looks better. The motor is stronger and can handle more power than the LT1. Even if you upgrade the front bumper, the zl1’s is functional with its 13 heat exchangers.
I didn't get a good deal on my 1LE but after a year searching I couldn't pass up on what I had been searching for, a manual V8. The seats are not comfortable and the seatbel keeps scratching my neck, the sound system is garbage but honestly I only want to listen to the car so I rarely listen to music. Even if I try to listen to music I keep turning off the music because I want to hear the car. 😂. Tires are very expensive but totally worth it. After 30 cars give or take I am finally falling in love with one. 😂. 2021 SS 1LE manual.
The SS has a twin disc, dual mass flywheel which is why it feels so different and dosnt like the low RPMs. It's not a single disc. Great video. Love the respect the 1le gets. Your one of the reasons we end up with them. :) 👍👍 I highly suggest getting a 1le SS.
How hard is the ZL1 clutch compared to the SS1LE for daily driving on traffic?
@@jmm1174 I haven't driven a Z yet. But the SS is totally dailyable. Long gears and high low end torque means your not changing gears too often in bumper to bumper. It's a really good manual IMO for daily use.
@@jmm1174 the zl1 clutch is SLIGHTLY stiffer than the SS clutch. Both are perfectly fine for daily driving. You probably won’t even notice the difference if you drove both back to back tbh
My honda accord has a dual mass flywheel from the factory. Nothing special
I just ordered one now waiting the 10-12 weeks
The Gen6 ZL1 is worth every dime
Yup! No problem! The ZL1 is a monster of a car for it's class and price range! It blows the doors off some cars that cost twice as much around a track, also not to mention has settled multiple track records and times! 6th gen ZL1 has nothing to lose! Such an awesome car!
2021 1SS 1LE M6 is the most fun I’ve ever had driving a car and I’ve owned many. For the money, it’s unbeatable and you can track it with warranty coverage, which is extraordinary.
Gotta say, tho...that supercharger whine is better than Mozart. 😊
That’s the secret. The 6-speed manual. The manuals will become even more desirable after production officially ends.
Subbed! Great video RP, love that you still have a ZL1. I picked up a Crush 2019 ZL1 over the weekend. Can't wait to let her rip. Be safe and God Bless!
This may just be current market conditions but the ZL1 does hold its value. I recently sold my very well optioned 2018 ZL1 for $63500, only slightly less than new. Really miss it’s power from a roll but loving my 2021 C8 which is a beast from 0-60.
The values have just been continuing to climb. With GM discontinuing them, it will probably keep the value very well.
Just bought my new car because of this video, thanks Riley.
How u like it?
Thanks for the comparison, I'm currently on the market and really trying to weigh the pros and cons here of the two cars for the money spent. Bang for the buck is absolutely important, not just the overall cost.
Best American bang for your buck ever made. I've owned mine for a year and yes it put a smile on my face every single time I get on it😃
Great vid. I have a ‘18 LE and was considering trading up for a ZL1. After driving the ZL1, I was amazed at how similar it was… I think I’m going stick with my 1LE as it’s paid off. If I need to, I can mod this car. If I sold this and got the ZL1, I’d be spending nearly 30k to get the same car with 200hp more
There are so many ss though. And drive a 10 speed zl1 to top speed and you will definitely not say it’s “just 200hp difference.” The ss is nothing compared to the zl1, that’s why so many people have the ss
@@gankaheww no
@gankah one thing you're forgetting is that the ZL1 weighs about 300-350lbs more than the SS1LE. With headers, intake, and good tune you're making around 500whp with the SS1LE (50 less than the ZL1) and after you factor in the weight it's about dead even. And you're saving money and staying naturally aspirated which is the most important thing. N.A. is always better than boost.
@@GERONIMO326headers intake tune isn’t going to be door to door with a ZL1 do you own either or are you just assuming from the internet
@selfmadejay01 the ZL1 makes 545 whp. My brother has one. I have a SS 1LE with 1 7/8 Kooks headers with Corsa Catback, Rotofab cold air intake, MSD intake manifold, with flex fuel sensor making 512 whp. The thing with staying N.A. is there is no heat soak really like there is with the boosted ZL1, the power curve is more linear and consistent gear to gear, and it weighs quite a substantial amount less while being more balanced (less heavy in the nose). To each their own, but we have raced countless times, sometimes I beat him, sometimes he beats me. Both very experienced drivers, both manual.
I very much enjoyed it!!! You are a very good speaker I could listen to you all day about Camaros 😀 Thank you for all the info, much appreciated 🤟🏻
I still say your plum crazy scat pack was my favorite of the cars you owned in the pass. I do like the Camaro and if I did want one I would go with the Zl1. But my one issue with the Camaro is the cabin is too small.
I love my 2019 1LE regardless of the controversial flow tie placement.
Agreed :)
I really like the new front fascia of the Camaro. To me, it's looking right now after the redesign of the facelift, especially the SS 1LE version - but maybe the 2019 spec will turn out to be the model year that's highly searched for in a decade. So stay strong in your opinion.
So is the zl1 faster then the ss?

So 20,000 for a super charger and a few extras😬 I think I would buy the SS and use the $20,000 to put my own super charger and extras .
It's more than 20k...
Don't forget you are comparing the SS price to zl1 but aren't factoring they don't give you the lt1 in the SS..
So it's 20k plus ➕ an lt1.
I firmly believe staying N.A. with the SS 1LE is the way to go. Exhaust, headers, intake, and a good tuner will make close to 500whp super easy (50 less than the ZL1) and after you factor in that the ZL1 weighs about 300-350 lbs more than the SS 1LE its about dead even BUT you're N.A with a more linear power band.
I still remember learning stick-shift driving on an 85 GT Mustang 5-speed. Great cars, and super easy to learn stick on. Very cool.
I went with a 1ss in manual. From what I've budgeted I can build it how I want cheaper. Then it's more my car after. So I'm happy

This was extremely helpful. I am deciding between a ZL1 and SS 1LE. Thanks
Both have cool exteriors, engines, and cool colors. Unfortunately the 1LE 2021 edition doesn't have a candy yellow color edition like bumblebee, but the 2020 ZL1 has a candy yellow color edition :)
What the hell candy is yellow?
Pops and Crackles are a timing/fueling adjustment in your tune on deceleration. You can get that with a good tuner and reflash.
A 1LE with ZL1 appearance package would be perfect!
no that would defeat the purpose
The Recaros are different than the ones that are used on stangs, so I wonder if GM had them specifically designed and looks like they have better padding on them. I've seen lots of recaros, and those are unlike any others that I've seen before. They look much more comfortable and could never travel far in a GT, my back couldn't take it and has become more of a track focused car. The most comfortable out of them all of course is the Challenger, but Camaro is kind of right in the middle and does the drag strip & road course well. It's a nicely balanced car and the stang is the lightest of them all, but I still like my Challengers best and are most true to their E body muscle car roots out of the 3 to
I have a 2019 scat pack thats almost fully optioned. Currently on a lease and waiting for buyout to become available. Would you keep the challenger or go with a nice SS or LT1 if both cost in the low to mid 30K range? My plans are daily driving with strip stuff on the weekend every now and then but I do want to make big power down the line.
That’s why I bought a 2023 camero 2SS 1LE it has the Bose speaker system and the lighting but there is also a difference between the 1SS and the 2SS within the engine
Yeah sure the Hellcats don't handle nerly as well, but neither one of those cars put a smile on your face like your cat did and remember how thrilled you were that time when you ran something like an 11.0 with a good DA and is absolutely amazing when considering the weight factor. That really speaks volumes for those gen3 hemis, plus Challenger is by far the most true to its roots than any of the others from the big 3. Those ZLs are great track cars, and is amazing what you get for your money with these American machines

Maybe the features are same , but you can tell them apart from a mile away , the ZL1 has a much meaner stance.
I feel like zl1 is too much for the street, the ss should be plenty to huff around in
I’ve owned the 6th gen ss and it’s all anyone needs. Zl1 is just for Bragging rights and racing.
I too grew up believing a sports car needs to be manual or it's not a "real" sports car, but I think we need to start accepting these cars operate so much better without our personal assistance. Shifting feels great, but it's time to let go and enjoy the ride
No. Has to be manual
Get out of here, Abe. Nobody cares if auto is faster, it’s about being more fun. I couldn’t give 2 shits of my 0-60 is better on my drive to the office, but if I nail a heel-toe downshift or flat foot an up shift, that is pure pleasure that an auto can’t provide.
super subjective.😊
Pretty sure the SS 1LE has a twin disc clutch with a duel mass flywheel.
Great video Riley. I’m currently deciding between modding my car more or upgrading to a ZLE. Leaning towards the ZLE only because it’ll retain more value vs spending a bunch on my motor. Downside is my car would easily outrun the ZL1 with those mods. (Planned on doing a H/C/I package.) The SS 1LE is an absolute blast though & such a performance bargain!

Hellcat, a big boat with ton of power which will make your tires spin. You will look cool cruising down the road, thats about it. Any other time, you are spinning your tires and praying you don't crash.
ZL1, best of the three in terms of performance. Absolute track beast, limited space, harsh ride, would not daily at all.

Probably some of the best standard wheels on any car.
The ZL1 has the nicest stock original rims! But the SS 1LE wheels are nice too.
Great video Riley as usual !!! 😎👍
Since I have had mustang 1le, and have driven my friends zl1 in almost one year, I feel with no supercharger, 1le is the best outta the three for handling and styling. Mustang sounds the best, and dodges are the most original looking muscle cars
Front zl1 has more air flow through the front
Needs it no doubt
Staying stock, basically the main difference besides aesthetics is the supercharger correct? Seems it has the same exact motor and you can get the 1LE which gives it basically the same interior, suspension, and brakes as the ZL1. So the only difference in the stock version is the ZL1 has a supercharger.
2SS Vs ZL1 the Winner = ZL1 💪🏾💪🏾more HP More power that’s all.
I need to speak to whoever designed that front bumper on the LT1. Would love to know what they were thinking when they gave it the thumbs up
I just got a SS 1le. I would rather bump the power to 550 and keep it NA.
I'd say the SS 1LE is good if you want a track car that you can daily, given it can get around 20mpg if you're conservative. The ZL1 is a toy, but worth it if you have the money.
The pre face lift 1LE looks better but the new 6th Gen refresh is starting to grow on me. ZL1 1LE would be the way you go you can rattle your teeth out with the DSSV shocks and suspension lol.
But 20 grand is easy money to get a 2SS/1SS to around 800 engine horsepower minimum. It just isn't backed by warranty
You are definitely wrong on the resale value on a zl1 I’ve never seen any of them sell under 60,000 so they definitely hold their value also you just have to find the right buyer
Looking at camaros under 30k for my next used car and what's very weird, is the ZL1 is only about 3k more than what a non 1le SS is going for now??
