      That ZL1 is a race car. That car look like it just made for the track racing.. On the highway I'll have to be in the SS 1LE. The ZL1 is a investment how I feel. I'll hold it for 30 years brand new.

      Thanks Mike for the video very informative, nice comparison. I have a question do you know what type of improvement will add the performance exhaust that GM offers as part of the options? And do you know if adding this exhaust would delete the double exhaust mode?

    As a ZL1/1LE owner…on a racetrack - no contest. ZL1/1LE puts down power better…it did 7:16 at the Nurburgring after all. Things that people don’t know - The Aero was developed at the Mercedes F1 Wind Tunnel. The rear glass is thinner for less sound insulation and weight. The front lower grill is very different and chugs in 106cu.ft more air than the base ZL1. The wheels are forged unlike cast wheels for most Vettes to date. You can brake harder beyond the ABS threshold in the ZLE and there is no ICE mode. The 6spd has a shorter ratio in 6th gear to go like a bat out of hell in any gear. The ZLE has a solid subframe where the chassis is bolt to the body with little to no rubber. What it means is information and confidence at the limit. The stock GY3R tires are for track only with very stiff sidewalls. Most change to the Michelin PS4S for the street and it changes the ride immensely. The ZLE is GM’s version of the GT3RS. In short - lots more easter eggs.

    • @HotRodsDFW
      @HotRodsDFW Год назад +5

      Solid info boss - I forgot about the rear glass totally :)
      Yeah the car is indeed a serious track weapon and I did give a GT3 a run for it’s money ;)
      I like the Goodyear 3R due to insane grip as I don’t bring it out in rain or cold at all!

      All amazing info, and if I could add on as well: The ZL1 1LE also has under body strakes for additional aerodynamic efficiency on track, the suspension setup is multimatic DSSVs, and the huge carbon fiber wing, and dive planes + splitter are race derived. And, it also comes STOCK with R comps. So in short, the ZL1 1LE is indeed a GT3 RS for the Camaro, is a track focused car first and foremost, and is the most ultimate ICE Camaro that’ll likely ever be built. It’s the big daddy.

    This 100% helped me. I currently drive a 2019 GTI and plan on keeping it as a daily when I get my next car. It's fun and practical. For a while I was really deadset on getting a 21+ Mach 1 with the tremec. Then I saw how much cheaper the SS was with the 1LE package. I was looking at ZL1 1LE's as well. Just like you had mentioned, I want to also be able to put 100% of the power to the ground on the street and not worry as much about losing traction. Did not know it did not have the magnetic ride suspension. For me, that's a big selling point. I've never had a car with it and would love to experience it. Another selling point is the torque and power curve of the LT1 compared to the Coyote. I'll test drive one eventually but I do like the idea of how much more usable the entire torque curve is in the LT1. So now I'm looking to get an SS 1LE by the end of the year. Not sure if I want to get a lightly used one or build one to my own liking from the factory for the final model year. I have no doubt they are, but the LT1 is a pretty reliable engine right? Even with a good chunk of mileage on it?
    P.S.

      @Tyler,
      Appreciate your post.
      As an SS1LE owner, do yourself a favor and GET this car!
      You can put ALL the power down and the chassis tuning allows you to feel “one” with the vehicle.
      There’s a reason a driver like Randy Pobst has given this car such high praise.
      It’s a driver’s car!
      Next, the LT1 is VERY RELIABLE.
      Mine’s a 2018 and it’s had ZERO issues.
      Lastly, make sure you get the 6-Speed manual for maximum driver involvement.
      Hope this helps!

      LT1 engine is also direct injection only, so eventually you're gonna have to get the engine serviced to clean up all the carbon build up, I don't know how expensive that'll be but I'm guessing its not gonna be cheap. The Coyote engine is both port and direct injection. Ford did this so that you won't ever have to service the engine for carbon build up.

      Agree,, the SS makes more sense to most of we "average Jane and Joe" drivers and I'm betting in the real world it will sell easier, better and at a greater price than will the ZL1. The ZL1 is attractive to the HIGH PERFORMANCE Camaro enthusiast but in reality WHERE can you experience all it has to offer than on a track and how many of us have the time or inclination to find one. We drive up and down the "streets" of America therefore the more streetable car is more desirable. Just say'n 🙂

Found a white ZL1 with all OEM 1LE parts added, with 2700 miles, she's been with me for 4 years and almost 30K, magnetic ride is wonderful, and I will eventually get to COTA with it. It's not a daily only have 2200 miles on it right now but I enjoy driving it every time I get it out. I probably could have ordered it without a sound system, I rarely listen the radio because I love the sound of that LT1 engine. So, for me the SS 1LE was a much better option because of $20,000 difference and I can put full power to the road without traction issues. It's also a fly looking ride.

    The ZL1-1LE has wider front fenders, thinner glass, also has parts that you add underneath to help with airflow that come in a box in the trunk when you get it new, when I got my ZL1-1LE, although it was very difficult to get (waited a year) the SS-1LE was even harder to get. I don't daily mine, and if I had to, I would definitely say the SS-1LE or regular ZL1 would be a more livable choice. The ZL1-1LE also has a completely different front fascia than the reg ZL1, beyond just the dive planes, it eliminates the led lights, and has additional scoops around the central grille opening, hard to notice unless u see them side by side. I really liked this video, because I really feel like these 2 are going to be Camaros that people will want, and will be the ones that hold their value. 👍👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

By the time Mike puts all the "manual" upgrades on the SS the price gap drops, and in the end it's not about the quality of ride, it's about the initial price difference. I liked the video, but too much emphasis on the quality of ride between the SS and 1LE version of the ZL1 - if you can afford it, simply get the ZL1 without the 1LE package and you'll NEVER regret it. The SS 1le is actually equipped exactly the same as a non 1LE ZL1, so really the only thing a 1LE ss is missing from the ZL1 1LE is the super charger, the suspension, which is ludicrously expensive, and the aero.

    The ZL1 1LE is a track car first, and street car second. It’s a VERY focused and serious car, and while the SS 1LE is a serious machine as well, it’s less harsh and just dead set focused on road course work than the Z is. I mean, the ZL1 1LE comes STOCK with multimatic DSSV shocks, under body aero strakes, R compound tires, race derived aero etc.
    The SS is plenty and then some for most people; the ZL1, especially in 1LE trim is a monster and a half.

    Regular Zl1 is by far the best Camaro to drive if you use it on the street Zl1 1le is very harsh in terms of ride quality and if you arent tracking it then it s the wrong one to get . Regular Zl1 is quicker in a drag race due to less aggressive aero.

Sold my C8, 718 GT4, EVO IX RS…..and just want something different to shift. This post makes me think the regular ZL1 is the best choice? Basic Mods planned for any version. The SS is already fast as crap man and although it would lose in a drag, I wanted the cornering ability first and foremost. The biggest issue is if you stay with traffic. Drive 10 mph faster than everyone else on the road and the visibility issue slowly goes away. 20 mph faster than everyone else and there is no visibility concern.
      The Camaro feels more like a tank in visibility than the Mustang.
      I had not had a concern with visibility, but that is probably because I was always at speeds over 100 mph.

    • @MidnightBenz
      @MidnightBenz Год назад

      Well the ZL1 if babied (which no one should - no point in buying it then) will get 12 mpg. Push it and 9 is your magic number. Drive the SS like a complete maniac and you'll still get 16 mpg.
      Turns and technical tracks, the SS is the better choice. You will carry more speed through the turns as you don't get to the higher speeds in the straights. But then again, compare the top speeds on either base SS and ZL1 and 15-20 mph on top end will equal in $1000 for every mile per hour.
      The top speed difference for the 1LE is smaller. You are looking at 186 mph for the ZL1 and still 180 for the SS. So the catch is mid range.
      Pick a bumpy track, and unless the person that owns the ZL1 is someone that lovea playing with legos, the ZL1 will stay behind the SS.
      ZL1 needs the smooth sweeping turns and the straights to get an advantage. That is never the real world unless you live in the middle of the country. East and West coast streets will deem the SS as rhe better chice hands down.
