After adding a p1sc-1 pro charger with a stage 2 intercooler to my 2018 SS 1LE, I surpassed ZL1 power. Bored with that I pulled the engine, bored it .010 over and rebuilt it with forged pistons, rods, hydraulic roller rockers, stage 2 cam, long tube headers with cat deletes, E85 sensor, LT4 injectors, high press. Fuel pump, swapped some pulleys, one piece drive line and new axles all rated for 1000+HP, triple disc monster clutch, and went with Toyo R888 tires….my car is a monster now.

I built it as a track car(not a drag car) because of the handling so I’m really at about the usable limit of HP for that application. I’ve thought about upgrading the P-1SC-1 pro charger to a D1X (you can send it in and they can upgrade it for you at pro charger to give you more boost(I’m only running about 7psi right now), but that may be a bit too much for the track. I’ll maybe do a video with a cold start and a look under the hood if you wanna check it out. Check my RUclips page after this weekend. No disrespect, but I love how you talk about a built car vs stock LOL. The amount of money you likely spent to get the car to "surpass" a zl1 with your "procharger" figure what between 6-8 thousand? or even when you did the rebuild to have it rated at "1000whp" is insane. If you threw that same money into a stock zl1 youre not even coming close. A stock zl1 from the factory strength wise is good for around 1000hp. Meaning the amount of money you put into that car could have been used in a better way with the zl1 as the internals are already built for it. going to be significantly cheaper than rebuilding the motor so that you have forged internals. I have a 2013 1ss cammed N/A that puts down about 500whp. And a completely stock 17 zl1. My cammed LS3 smacks stock 6th gen ss cars, and snackpacks LOL, But it doesnt even come close to my zl1. Look up the video of cleetus mcfarland doing a CAI, and upper pulley swap on stock zl1 and it picks up 100whp. Now sure, for track days/road course then you get into heat soak because youre overspinning the blower. But for a street car thats insane we are talking maybe a grand for the upgrades and tuning. The real monster is throwing the 2650 maggie on it with supplemental mods.

I decided to do serious upgrades, whipple charger, cam, 3 stage fuel system flex fuel with E85, tune 10speed transmission, custom intake by RPM, kooks headers ceramic coated and wrapped, high flow cats with cat back exhaust, suspension set up, 325s on the rear, etc. So far $20k. Correct on all points, and the same thinking applies not to just Camaros but previous generation Corvettes as well. Not just a C8 but C6 and C7 and even C5 take mods great and being lighter are even faster. I miss my head/cam C6 and would like to pick up an older GS or Z car and do a head/cam bolt on car again. A lot of great options for folks depending on what they want to spend. A new GT500 or ZL1 is fantastic but I chose a Charger Redeye instead and haven't regretted that choice since I'm lined up for an early C8 Z06 as well. I've always looked at it as if I want a 2 door I only want 2 seats so it's light and sporty, and if it has a back seat may as well have 4 doors and be comfortable for people getting in and out. The Charger platform paired with a Corvette is perfect for me. I looked at a CT5-V BW too, another good choice for 4 doors. If I could only have 1 though maybe a GT500 or Vette only. But luckily I can have 2 or 3.

I get what you're saying and normally it would be appealing. My issue is I live at 5,000ft in elevation where their air is thinner. So forced induction is something that appeals to me, especially turbocharged. This is why I'm considering the ZL1 option.

This means that per cubic foot of volume there is less oxygen at higher altitudes than at sea level. Forced Induction, super charged or Turbo, creates a significant vacuum, pressurizes the air it's intaking (thus measuring boost in psi), and forces that into the combustion chamber, there by overcoming the deficit of density found at high altitude.

I like to keep my vehicles mostly stock, but I respect that the engines/cars I've owned can respond extremely well to mods. They don't just "slide the cam" in unfortunately. It's either a complete removal of the LT engine OR the whole front clip has to come off.. In fact, the guys at Race Proven Motorsports tend to use the 1st option and just pull the engine because it goes a bit smoother.

True story, last week I was going out of town for a few hours and a new Hellcat Challenger wanted to do a 40 roll, I obliged knowing I stood no chance. What shocked me is that he didn't start pulling on me until we were north of 100mph, me an M6 on DWS06 all seasons and him an A8 on a tire, not sure what kind of tire but it wasn't stock. He did have a passenger, I did not. Only thing I have on my SS is a RotoFab intake, thats it. Putting down 550-600rwhp in a NA car like this would be wild.

Im not saying its a terrible idea to upgrade your ss, go ahead I just want to clarify and educate ig anyone that would want to try it because it would probably cost you the same amount to upgrade your ss camaro to be the same or more hp than it would be to just buy a zl1 with the aditional feature entrior wise, aethetically wise, and handling too. @@ixpol9163 oh wow that’s awesome that’s a huge difference in price for e85. It’s only about 60 cents cheaper for e85 than it is for premium where I live, but $6+ is crazy! It’s $3.30 for premium 93 in Texas rn lol

A 2ss stock camaro vs. a stock zl1, however, finds the latter to be quite a bit faster.

I'm planning on buying a 2ss this year but, can't decide on a 6spd or automatic 🤧🤧 I have my little banger cobalt manual to bang around but, I can only imagine how fun a manual camaro is🙃

I have a manual. Its WAY more fun than an auto. Auto might be a touch faster but who cares, it's not noticeable and in a roll race I think the manual is better. If you don't want to shift, then get the auto.

As far as the 600 whp camaro. I just priced out all the parts listed in their video and it came out to $8947 before shipping and what not. Probably budget a grand for dyno tuning. My guess would be 2500-3500 in install cost. All in maybe 14k.
