Technically you're right anyway lolololol
Best. Comment. Ever.
Imagine knowing 3-4 languages and mixing words everytime you talk. I don't even know what I'm talking anymore
same, i know that feeling all too well XD
basically me
Every Malaysian or Singaporean ever. 😂
Ugh don't remind me. When you try to switch and use wrong language with wrong person. Lol
loool thats really me
Man I know the struggle. I feel so stupid when I forget words. I speak three languages at different levels and I catch myself forgetting a word in one language and knowing it in the other two. Like pls brain don’t do this to me
I feel the same way bc I'm learning Korean but I watch a lot of Thai dramas so I naturally pick up on the Thai words I hear. I'll always be practicing my Korean with my friends and get to something ik how to say in Thai but not Korean. Or sometimes I'll even forget English words. When I get angry I don't curse in English anymore. All my frustrations come out in other languages!
Samee
Same only with 5 languages 😭 my mind goes mush all the time and sometimes I use all 5 languages in 1 sentence 😂
Same man, I speak four, and one time I was explaining this word, but I only remember it in two languages, and the friends around me only spoke the other two lol, it was a mess
I speak 5 languages fluently but that never happened haha. sometimes words are very similar so i mess up the pronunciation but I think I can tell them apart pretty good
"Describe what happens when grains of starch are heated with water." Dude, that ain't English. That's science, bro.
ha I was thinking. wait i speak mainly English I don't know either. then I was like wait what the hell, we're getting into a different realm right now.
GCSE Food Technology lol
It's really fine if we don't know it
I'm assuming it's one of those reading comprehension questions where they give you a passage and ask you questions to see if you understood the passage
Grains of starch doesn't even make sense. Starches don't come in grains.
Yes it does, haha. Rice would be a starch! And pasta, beans, corn, other types of grains. It was a weird way to word the question for sure though.

that's on korean education system. they focus more on theory rather than in practice
that's why these language tests don't make sense to me. if you can't talk to people in person what's the point of getting 100 points on a test
Koreans are like that.. and I’m also Korean We can understand what they are saying, but we can’t say in english easily..😭(not everyone) I also think the korean education is the problem, but we can’t change that system because the main reason why we learn english is for our course like university.. so sad

they should teach the basics not...whatever that was. How is anyone supposed to speak English like that?? (coming from someone who's not a native speaker)
I can only speak English (barely) but I still have situations like this. I’ve been learning about Asian culture (mostly Japanese) for 5 years now and over time I naturally started to use some Japanese phases. I’m not trying to be Japanese or throw away my own culture. I don’t go around screaming Baka, Nani or Oppa. We all know English lacks in a lot of areas and I sometimes use other language to make up for it.
I mostly say Mendokusai (a pain) and Shoganai (it can’t be helped).
I sometimes can’t remember what is the norm in America because I’m so used to foreign norms. So I have to ask my friends or family if people do that in America or if they know what something means. They always look at me like I’m crazy.
Don’t even get me started on trying to figure out how to read a foreign comic books. If it’s Japanese it’s right to left. If it Korean its left and right. Sometimes I’ll get through half the first chapter without realizing I’m reading the wrong way or I’m constantly second guessing myself.
Sincerely problems of a cultured monolingual person
Pinkbrush “I can only speak English (barely)” I hope you’re kidding. Because if you think your English is ‘barely’ then you have unrealistically high standards... lol
@@Memphis_ritz There is a definite difference between writing a language and speaking it. I know this for sure because my dad was a translator in America. Sometimes people can write the language much better than they can speak it. Based only on this one post, I would say the English Pinkbrush wrote is quite good. That's college [ post secondary school ] level English prose.
Trivial post script People wanting to get a promotion in the American spy agency, the CIA, and want to be posted overseas have to take two different language tests to show their proficiency in a foreign language. One is for the written language and one is an oral test for the spoken language.

Me too.... I am Malay, and uses English. When I want to use Korean, I sometimes thought up Mandarin words. 😩😂

“Healthsee” 😂 this had me dying
I actually feel you dave. im using english a little bit too much now i keep on forgetting what it means in my native language. Omg, it is very embarassing indeed:(:(:(:( my friends keep asking me bcs they think im good in english and i cant explain it to them..... smh
Isa Chehab it kills you rightt:(:(:( yesterday i was just doing my assignment. i found a resource in english and i need to translate it to my native language. i understand it, but i cant seem to find the correct word in my native language. i spent like two hours with the help of google translate and i went "ah! thats right, this is xx in my native language. yes yes yes!" i cant help it tho, sometimes i feel like speaking in english is more comfortable XD
It happens to me too (not often but...) I sometimes use english words instead of my dialect, arabic or french and my parents give me a look like "WTH? can you explain?!".. but when they ask me to explain an english word from tv/net: "Sorry, I know what that means but I don't know how to explain it"
this is what i feel for my whole life :(((
It's pretty normal once you become bilingual or polyglotist, you tend to mix your words or forget them because your brain process different languages at the same time. I'm a spanish native speaker but I use english too much that I just say words in english, my father gets pretty mad at me (he's the only one out the 5 members of my family that can't speak 2+ languages). My mom is soooo used to this that she ended learning some phrases and words in portuguese, italian (those two because my brother and I learned a little bit of both), korean, japanese (my fault cuz I'm learning them xD). English is the common language between my sister, brother and mother, and mostly the rest of my cousins too.
its been a long ass ride YES EXACTLY. I have that all the time. Even when speaking, for example i had a presentation in my native language and I sometimes threw English in between without even knowing and other students corrected me by telling the Dutch word..
i forgot what driveway was, i said a car’s home.
oop to be fair, driveway is weird. You park in a driveway, and drive on a parkway. Makes no sense lmao
@@MiuXiu That is indeed quite weird
Isn’t driveway the one you see at KFC?

I have the same thing. I know how to say something in english but not in my mothertongue (french ) so when i talk with my parents it's kind of problematic. And sometime when I have something to say in french I think about it in english

LMAO I speak both Chinese and English, but English is my first language. I only speak Chinese in my mother tongue classes and when I had to talk to my grandparents. Since Singapore forces us to use our mother tongue as well, I tend to forget how things are said in Chinese. ,I was talking to my grandmother one day and I was like "我的中文没有很 fluent, 因为学校一整个星期只有1 or 2 period of 中文课而已。而且新加坡人整天讲话中间一定会 mix 一些英文来 express 清楚他们要怎么讲." And my grandmother just looked at me like , tf are you saying? Translation : *my Chinese isn't that fluent, I only have one or 2 periods of mother tongue class in a week. Also, Singaporean always mix in English while speaking in their mother tongue to express themselves more clearly.* So eventually, I remembered that fluent is 流利 in Chinese, 1 or 2 periods is 一两节课, mix is 融入 and express is 表达. Gosh I rly need to brush up my mother tongue 🤧 HAHAHA I SPEAK SINGLISH
oh my god i find this totally relatable i'm from singapore too and my chinese sucks :((
Yo Singaporean here too!!
Same xDd
Hahaha I have a Singaporean friend in my Japanese class at uni and she said she failed her Chinese exam in sg (I think her final exams at the end of hs) and I also write kanji better than her bc she does the strokes wrong. Like she does 1 stroke instead of 2 which would be marked wrong like for 先

I made the mistake of learning Mandarin and Spanish very close together. When I couldn't think of the word in Mandarin, my brain automatically popped it out in Spanish
That happened after I lived in Japan for 7 years and came back to Brazil lol Lucky me my family is Japanese-Brazilian so they understand me
I lost focus to the last two questions tho 😂 So actually 'browning' is a non enzymatic reaction when starch turns brown in color as a result of heating starch without water. There are many types of browning, one of those are Maillard reaction which is the reaction between amino acid and starch when you heat them. It is a term mainly used in food science, so it's okay if you don't know the meaning 😉 The same with the last question, the starch goes 'gelatinized' - such difficult terms haha. I'm a food science major, so those terms are familliar to me 😄
Really enjoyed your vid btw. Learned Korean a lot from your vids, and this one is so hillarious 😁😁
The last two questions are about Science subject. It's quite hard for those who haven't studied Biology or Chemistry. ^^
"Where are you from?" "Uhh.. Seoul" LOL
Honestly same thing happened to be when I went to LA last year, I was like "uh... Atlanta, GA"
It is crazy what your brain prioritizes! Working in a Korean deli, my Korean got so much better and I could hold Korean conversations without much stuttering. Now, two years later away from that job, I can't hold conversations with my own mother!

Hey Dave.. have you ever made a video where you explain why you chose to live in Korea!?
I love your videos, especially the ones with your friends Vai, Erina and Jaine:)

I think in one video with a Korean German and Korean Italian guy, he said that he came to visit and just stayed because he liked it. Since he lived in Korea town in Atl, he was already pretty used to a lot of things when he came to Korea

Me with Norwegian and English. I forget most from Norwegian and know more English and i get norwegians to correct me and i grew up here for 18 years...😂
Filipino here but my tagalog is very mediocre. English comes in handy when I forget some tagalog words 😭😂😢
To answer that person's question, when starch is heated, it absorbs liquid and swells in size. Browning means that something is usually cooked until it turns brown. Specifically in terms of cooking beef, you lightly cook the beef and then it turns brown due to oxidation and melts some of the fat that was on the beef.
story of my life. im a multilingual and where I live, we speak in 4 languages mixed so I find it difficult to just speak one language straight
watermelon bubblegum be thankful! :) it’s hard for us in the US to learn new languages without going abroad. We don’t have as many resources as foreign countries learning English do. I love languages but the internet doesn’t do the trick for me, nor do apps. I need human interaction and I can’t afford to go abroad so all I can speak is survival Spanish and a couple sentences of Italian :(
those last two questions are totally scientific based not your fault at all even u cant answer. LOL
Spanish is my first language... the same thing happens to me. Sometimes I forget how to translate English words into Spanish. ☺️
Marisol Lucio omg that happens to me too and when my parents say to translate things for them I most of the time can't think of the words to explain it so they always make fun of me for it because they don't understand the struggle
Foreigners "where're you from?"
Me, after being in Korea for 2 years, "Here...Seoul."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Then they get mad and call me a Koreaboo.
That and mixing konglish up with English.
No joke man this happens to me when I'm LEARNING a language. Like it's fine that it happens to you cuz you've been speaking Korean for like, a gazillion years right? But I'm currently learning Chinese and I think because I try to think in Chinese too to help me learn, I can't help but replace certain words of my language with Chinese too in every day conversations. And then people were like ??? And then I try to explain to them what I actually mean when I could simply just translate the word into my mother tongue (which is not English). I sometimes replace words with English too so it's all jumbled up. So yeah, a very common problem for multilingual people, so don't sweat it Dave. 힘내!
Same for me. My native language is french but I'm learning korean so I mix everything 🤦🏽♀️my friends can't keep up with me anymore 😂😂😂
I didn't learn korean formally or been to korea but I learnt my korean from videos. In Singapore, we sometimes mix English and Chinese together. I'm from a chinese speaking family and I speak chinese most of the time unless I speak to my friends but sometimes I need chinese to fill up english or english to fill up chinese.
Just now when I was in the supermarket with my friend, I wanted to say I want to buy some chips. Korean just came into my head and I nearly said "kua ja".😂 "kua" already came out of from my mouth but it was soft so she didn't hear it. She wouldn't understand since she's one of the fewer friends I speak to in chinese since she is from China.
do u experience the horrror of chinglish too(when u go to hawker food but the seller mix english with strange accents wkwwk)
EH MOOD SIA ISTG
영등포에서 진짜 개빵터졌어요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
"he forgot how to english again"
...?
I can really relate to the ‘audition’ part lol. I lived in Tokyo for a year and spoke Japanese every day at my job. When I returned to Canada I had a weird accent when speaking English. People would ask if I was British and they didn’t believe me when I said I was born and raised in Canada. 😂
I have to speak at least 4 languages in a day so I kinda understand how confusing that can be lol
You never realise how difficult it can be to translate words from one language to another until you have to translate it XD
Singaporean?
Same over here, it doesn’t help that they all have a different way of pronouncing words. I use the rough g a lot
Chris Lo i do that xD
