    I feel like adding words with one another makes german a logical language so it's pretty easy to guess the meaning, but this makes the pronunciation much trickier

    • @olgahein4384

      Indeed, the german language ist very structured and logical to the core. Be it word building, sentence structure or grammar, everything is according to the rules - even exceptions have their rules. The only things that do not or 'Fremdworte' (foreign words that became part of everyday language) and most 'Lehnworte' (foreign words that got integrated into the language in its pronounciation and writing).

      @@vanillagrammer6019 I think everyone can agree that it wasn't "correct" pronunciation.
      That would be completely impossible for first time speakers. Especially without even ever hearing the Word pronounced and on top of that from people with such a different Language.
      There is simply no question that the pronunciations were wrong, and they were supposed to get them wrong obviously.
      The question is if they were understandable. I admit I probably couldn't have understood most of the Words which got a hit but I like that she wasn't unfair about it.

    german really is one of the languages of all time. recently google translate casually spat out a 30 letter translation german word for me and normally i would day that without thinking but actively seeing the comparison of multiple words in 1 language getting turned to 1 in another makes you think how is it that we can so casually read these long words without stumbling. its not like it was a dictionary word you just see the beginning and end and know what it most like is from context, you really just need to read every letter to know whats the parts are

    • @sojus7929
      @sojus7929 8 месяцев назад +5

      Try to cut them apart and pronounce them one by one, that's how it's taught in elementary school. I still do it like this with those really long words that aren't really used like "Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz"
      That way you can also translate and learn unknown German words.
      You make the cuts at: Rindfleisch etikettierungs überwachungs aufgaben übertragungs gesetz.
      The first word is: beef
      The second word is: labeling
      The third word is: monitoring or supervisory (both work pretty good in this case)
      The fourth is: tasks or duties (plural and tasks or duties fits the meaning best, there are more translations to that one though)
      The fifth is: transfer, distribution or assigning (look up "Verteilen" as well )
      The fourth is: law
      Or "Eichhörnchen"
      Cut at Eich hörnchen
      First is: Oak
      Second is the cute form of: horn
      The word horn comes from the way they resemble the musical instrument the horn when sitting. Its a horn that sits on an oak tree. And it's very cute.

      You left some compound words untouched and I have a nice story about them. :D
      A friend of mine used this word in a quiz for his students and some of them found more words in this one because they recognized the untouched compounds as single words too. Rind-fleisch (cow meat = beef) and Übertragung ("Über-trag" - over carry = assignement/assigning something). He was a little bit confused first, but its just such a good example of how our language works.

    Not only can you seemingly combine any number of words into one longer word. In German you can stretch sentences to almost any length or use commas to form sentences that could stand on their own into a long sentence. However, you have to be concentrated when writing or reading such a sentence, otherwise it can quickly happen that in the middle or at the end of the sentence you forget how the sentence began.

    They did that really well. English is a very simple language. In Korean and German you can formulate things in much more detail. I hope germany will be listen more K-Pop. I love the sound of korean. I'm always happy when a korean artist speak german.

    1:02 seems a popular word at this studio to puzzle their test subjects. it can be divided in three parts. the first four letters _Eich_ point to the favoured food of this small animal, acorns, while the next four letters _hörn_ (think English 'horn') are somewhat random to name a squirrel and the last four letters _chen_ are a diminutive. if you divide it up: Eich - hörn - chen then it is already much easier to pronounce, just learn to say it in one word then.
    7:11 they did that word before too. it's not a nice choice. a compound word again and to make it even longer, set into plural form: Freundschaft[s] - beziehung - en, the relationships between friends.

    They do a lot better than I'd do with Korean.
    Even when the pronunciation was off, they usually get the rhythm of the word correct which isn't easy when you're not used to German word boundaries like "Streich-holz-schachtel".

    12:30 'should we try a harder word next time?' NO! don't do that. you might put people off who consider learning German. maybe you can make a video and show remarkable similarities between German and English. after all, both languages belong to the family of _western Germanic languages_ . for every Korean who already knows English, learning German really is just a small step and should be much easier than learning French or Spanish.

    • @reellezahl
      @reellezahl 8 месяцев назад

      They meant harder than German, as German is a relatively easy language. There are loads of Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. people in Germany and they acquire fluency quite quickly. It's not a difficult language. What's difficult in Europe are languages like Icelandic, Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian, and also the Slavic languages (though I'm sure people who have a slavic language as their mother tongue might argue otherwise).

    Pronounciation of German words is not difficult (although the words are long, as various words are often combined together to build a new word). But what is indeed difficult it's German grammar - all these Artikel that one has to learn or Rektion des Verbs and so on.

    • @embreis2257

      French grammar is still more difficult to master

    • @MayaTheDecemberGirl
      @MayaTheDecemberGirl 8 месяцев назад

      @@embreis2257 I've learned German, but now I use it rather only passively - by reading books in German (I like reading in German), or sometimes I watch some films in this language. In my primary school I had also some French. I'm not sure if French grammar is really so much more difficult than German.

    I'm German too and I think German is a really "hard" and "harsh" language.
    Many words sound more like a command, whereas in other languages they sound melodic. For example, DANKE (Thank you) or BITTE (Please).
    These boys did great esp. for EICHHÖRNCHEN (squirrel) and ENTSCHULDIGUNG. ♥
