I have a weird take on this, I think that LeBron is the most physically gifted and naturally talented player to step into the court.
That said, Bird would still beat him because LeBron just doesn't have the willpower, and that's the only thing Bird has over him.

@@Wearywastrel Bird is tougher than LeBron and he's a better passer too as well as that BB IQ plus that clutch factor. Bird never flopped either. He's a better shooter. Bird's trash talking would have LeBron flopping before the game started. That's seven things he has over LeBron. I know LeBron is a great athlete and the NBA's greatest scorer. I admire LeBron too but Larry Legend is something else. I bet LeBron doesn't tell people what he's going to do before he does it. Larry did that very frequently. Make that eight things. I don't consider that to be trash talking. That's telling it like it is (going to be).

The one thing that doesn't matter across generations and how the game is different is Bird's mental gifts. Between being mentally tough, vision to see a play and just his trash talking. Especially the latter. I don't know if LeBron would react well to Bird's trash talking.

So Larry is man compared to a boy in lebron. Larry missed 22 games in his career. Lebron has missed over 70. Larry played with a fractured jaw. Lebron leaves games because his hairline is showing. Lebron has more finals games lost than any other player at 22-33.

They are both great players. Bird is better. Legitimately, James has three things over Bird: Speed, Strength, and Dunking ability. It doesn't matter though. Bird made up for those differences in so many other ways, starting with his top-tier IQ. Bird was ahead of the game, and could make up for speed and strength by already being at the right place at the right time. He didn't need to dunk as definitively as James because he could shoot from anywhere with accuracy.

One of the privileges of my age is to have seen these two players play since the start of their careers (as well as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and other stars). However, if as GM, I had to choose immediately which one I would like to have in my team, it is without any hesitation that I would answer Larry Bird. Magic Johnson probably would have been a possible G.O.A.T. if Bird had not played against him and in the same period as him. Bird has been a rock in Johnson's shoe. Likewise, Lebron would have seen his star shine less if he had played in the Bird days. In addition to an exceptional talent as a shooter from all positions, a magic passer, Bird was a real aggressive player, trash talker and with limitless determination. Winning the Celtics was his only obsession. The slightest defeat was unbearable to him. Lebron is a fake tough guy. He knows that his physique impresses but often times he has shown his limits when the opponent leaves him no margin. Bird did not let any opposing player constrain him... and he had better watch himself.
Yes, following his retirement, it will be fair to say that James was a player who marked the NBA... but nothing to do with the career, the talent and the impact of LARRY BIRD. That's why, many loved it and still love to hate it.

In a 9 year run from 1980 to 1989, Larry Bird got 67% of all MVP votes that were cast. All other players combined only received 33% of the votes. I find it interesting after watching several different reaction videos by fans of either Jordan or Lebron, that the younger generation for the most part say Bird isn't even in their top 10. Yet when Jordan and Lebron were asked who was in their top 3 both named Bird in theirs. GUESS THEY THINK THEY KNOW MORE ABOUT BB THAN JORDAN AND LEBRON

🤣🤣🤣... Lebron Playing Hurt, ha ha ha... Stop It. He does have the Pretending To Get Hurt Down, I'll Give Him That. I heard this interview with Wilkins on here YT somewhere & it went something like this: "Wilkins Said, Now & Then I Would Ask Young Players This Question: If You Could Choose To Be A Great Athlete OR A Great Player, Which One Would You Pick? And He Said Most Would Pick A Great Athlete, And I Would Tell Them NO. A Great Athlete Might Get You Some Ooo's & Aww's BUT A Great Player Will Get You The Win's & That Is What Larry Bird Was". Larry Was All TEAM Playing & LeBron Is Just About Himself. Can You Just Imagine If Larry Was Selfish Like Lebron Is? Yea His #'s Would Have Been Off The Wall & He Would Have Probably Moved Around To Other Team's Too. And there it is Another Reason Why I don't respect Lebron & Other's just like Him, And I'm Not The Only One That Doesn't. Yea I get that the Game isn't played like it use to be & I hope They All Go Broke Soon Because It. It shouldn't even be called Basketball any longer, Not sure what They should call it But it isn't Basketball Playing.

    What is LeBron James
    better at on the floor
    than Larry Bird ? Not
    shooting , not passing ,
    not rebounding , not
    free throws , not the
    three pointer ! And ,
    Larry Bird was easily
    more clutch and more
    feared than James !
By the way , I have
    seen LeBron James ,
    on many occasions ,
    afraid to take the last
    shot .. that ain’t clutch !

also larry broke his back shovelling stone at his moms driveway. He would spend the night in the hospital show up 5 hours early for the game to get loose then play the game and go back to the hospital after. He played the second half or his career with a nerve root problem in his back. That age 30 season is included in that time frame

I'd take larry and few more players over LeBron. Yes LeBron is more talented but he's a nice guy and the Jordan, Bryant, magic, birds of the world were a ruthless, cutthroat, win at all cost mentality. That's the only category LeBron is lacking.. and it's a big one for me

The NBA today is soft. Players now have longer careers because of better sports medicine, ticky tacky foul calls, and load management. Put Bird into todays NBA and he's averaging 30 points a game and playing at least 5 - 6 more years.

Bird shut Jordan down 6 years in a row and swept him twice
Jordan didn't win a single championship till Bird retired ...
6'10 and the best shooter in the league
    2nd highest winning percentage ever
3 time MVP in a row
3 time 3 point champ in a row
Kareem - Magic -Jordan -Kobe and LeBron - all put Larry on their all time starting team lineup
Kareem and Magic said he's the best they ever played against
As a Rookie and the only new member on the Celtics
They had a 32 game improvement over the previous season
He was a leader out of the gate
LeBron took years to be a leader - and frankly he's kind of a cry baby

If we want to compare players, we also have to consider what era they meet in. If Lebron played in the late 80s/early 90s, they would beat the crap out of him. If Larry had to play in Lebron's era, he would have an easy time playing soft basketball. Basically, Larry would learn Lebron's basketball more easily than Lebron could deal with Larry's era.

As time goes on, I'm less fond of top list and GOAT conversations. Every year, the history of sports change with the addition of new players, new stars, new superstars and new Champions. Working from a finite list either degrades the past or present depending on perspective. If these conversations are happening 100 years from now, what will it be like then. Will any of these "top" players even be discussed. Larry is an underappreciated beast in the modern conversations of the game though and I love to see videos like this.

THE REAL GOAT! LEBRON IS GOOD NOT EVEN CLOSE THE THE LEGEND. femitøødrippy You weren't there. Lebron can jump and so can Jordan but Larry wasn't a high flyer. Skip knows greatness and so does Reggie. I grew up watching my Celtics kick ass like i watch Tom Brady kick ass. So you do not know what you're talking about femitøødrippy. Lebron lol. what a joke when you put him in Larry's category. Better passer smart passer. Lebron is all you seen. LOL! Son Lebron James is good so can you image how Larry Bird was that you're hearing these announcer's pick Larry over your boy Lebron. There will never be another Larry Bird thats how good he was. You weren't there, ask your father he was there. Back then player's played bloody and today they get paid more and take a seat when they're injured. come on son if you're going to do these video's you need to recognize.

I am someone that has no clue about basketball in general. I have never watched a game in my life. But I do want to put my 2 cents in here when it comes to injuries. The time when Larry Bird was playing was more physical that modern basketball is, since modern basketball players are alot "money focused". If they get injured, they don´t earn money. So the games are alot less physical nowadays. Ofcourse I might be wrong, but that is what I can see from clips from differnt eras.
