What I find amazing, is Bird did that against Dominique...a younger, very healthy, very talented player -- while Bird was daily experiencing extreme back pain, and too his Achilles pain. I can't remember when it happened, but did have double Achilles surgery. And given how he fell down after that one shot and stumbled on another, I think he was struggling with the pain in his legs and back more than anyone even knew.
BTW, I blew out an Achilles tendon....it sounded like a .22 firearm shot....literally made a 'bang' sound....happened when I stepped off a curb and onto a street. A lady next to me, asked me if I just broke a bone...she heard the 'bang' too. I had been having pain in that leg, and just thought I strained something for like a week prior to the tendon letting go...so yeah, I know that pre-pain, as well as the after pain of an Achilles tendon snapping.
Larry is just absolutely amazing, doing what he did, while dealing with so much pain.

Larry Bird is who I modeled my game after. Shooting from anywhere on the court at any time in different ways. Runners, floaters, left handed hook shots, bank shots, shooting while sprinting, and always move without the ball to find easy layups.
And then also being able to keep your teammates involved, and making every hustle play. Of course, this is all easier said than done!

Players in most sports get paid so much money now and don't have team loyalty ... they won't play hurt.. they don't play with heart.. I just watched a baseball game in Oakland the other night.. this pitcher from like 1964 was saying he played every game.. all the way through.. earning 13,000 a year.. Baseball players now are making more than any sport. 400 million it's crazy..Larry as a 3 time champion wasn't making even close to that kind of money.. and played with a bad back, achilles problems in both heels, a fractured cheekbone... never quit.

It's almost a bookend to the comment "hey rook, I like you, you got balls" Larry made back in Wilkin's rookie year. Dominique wasn't just a gifted athlete, he had drive and heart and didn't back down.

See how he geew up, his coach in high school tricking those boys to practice all day "work on these three plays, I'll be back to see if you improved"
Somedays he forgot to return and they just krpt practicing.
As a kid I heard of him going to IU, he left and people were hot.
Next time I heard about Larry was at ISU, the tune "INDIANA HAS A NEW STATE BIRD" and they were undefeated.
    Magic and Sparty beat them.
    Sucked.
He goes to Boston, hated Bird, I was a Sixer. Don Buse was an Indiana Pacer and NBA ALL STAR from 3 miles away, Holland IN pop 500, my dad shot hoops with him on the playground "when Don was on your team you knew you were going to win"
Little Holland IN (in the movie Hoosiers btw) also produced Gene "Bumper" Thormolien who spent his whole life in the NBA, still has TN Volunteer records, rings, a Hawk buried in Atlanta.
Indiana fd up a d did like the rest of the country, Class Basketball.
    It set us apart
No mre David slaying Goliath, ruined it.
    Google Huntingburg Memorial Gymnasium.
When built held twice the towns population.
    6,200 capacity.
    13 team sectionals, legendary.
It was the Counry rivals after consolidation and outsiders Perry Central, incredible, risers added, 7,000+ fi grrs in the air outside, placed drunk as fuck, it was awesome.
Jasper our biggest rival had Scott Rolen the HOF baseball player, Digger Phelps and...brain fart.
Many big time coaches were there but Bobby Knight took the spotlight.
Nick Nolte was shadowing Knight studying fir Blue Chips the movie when he asked "what is Hoosier Hysteria"
Knight replied "come with me tonight, you'll find out".
Nobody noticed Nick Nolte (he's short btw) but Robert Montgomery Knight could've declared war on Kentucky and that criwd would've taken Louiswithin the hour.
Rolen had a gane for the ages but it was not enough.
    I'll stop.
    Class Basketball sucks.
Oh, nodoby gies to the games anymore.
    PS.
Holland also produced Colson Montgomery drafted 1st round out of High School by the Chicago White Sox.

Lebron couldn't hit a game winning shot against a middle school player. Lebron has quit every single meaningful game they were losing. Oh my back....lebron is the most overrated player in nba history. He's not clutch, he can't lead the league in any stat....he just happen to be part of a bought team for rings. It's amazing to me his name even comes up. He just lives off chinese money and media propaganda.
