I’ve been at Horizon for 3 years and I love it ! They’ve always treated me nice and always there to help if needed. Owner and employees are a blessing to me and my husband. He’s been at Horizon for 16 years. We’re both in the Tow away division.
I currently work Monday through Friday, off every weekend. I'm down on the Alabama Gulf Coast. I would like to start out hauling part time on the weekends, but I'm not sure whether or not Horizon or the dealers will be able to accommodate my availability. I would also like to be able to run up to Indiana, pickup and then drop off somewhere in the south near where I live. Do you think that's possible?
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 well that sucks, there are a lot of dealers down here in my area, I was hoping I'd be able to deliver somewhere close to my home. I have already applied with Horizon, so I guess when I hear back from them, I'll get more info on this specific area and whether or not there's enough places around here that do take delivery on the weekend to make it worth it. Says I gotta do 1 a month to stay active. If I can't do that I might have to work on something else or go all in with Horizon, I don't know if I'm ready for that just yet, but I'll keep on looking into it and make the decision later on I guess.
here's a little inside information from a veteran driver of 41 yrs...you can split your driving time, even on and especially on E logs.. here's how I used to do it, and was driving a 62 mph truck..company choice, not my choice.. Laws say you can split your driving time into 2 periods...of not less than 2 hrs. and an 8 hr break. I'd start at midnight when I could..drive for 3 and 1/2 hrs...take a two hr break..exactly 2 hrs!!! start driving again and drive for another 3 and 1/2 hrs..Now you have 7 hrs in, and take an 8 hr break...(was usually around 5 or 6pm when that break was over) The rules will pick up from you 2nd 3 and 1/2 hr break, not the first, because of the 8 hrs off!! so basically you get 3 and 1/2 hrs of free driving..but it does count for your 14 hr clock.. however after the 8 hr break, you can then drive for 6 and 1/2 hrs additional...that makes for 13 and 1/2 hrs of driving time, and your pretrip equals 14 hrs...in a 62 mph truck I was able to log LEGALLY 810 miles on more and one occasion. if you just drive 11 hrs at 62 mph, only goin to avg (with a semi) around 57 or 58 mph..or about 650 miles..!!!!
It isn’t a question of subversion of rules and D.O.T regulations.. it’s knowing those rules and regulations backwards and forwards and using them to your own advantage..like sec 395.8 Of FMCSA which allows you personal conveyance..this was upheld by the US Supreme Court in 1979.. where conveyance doesn’t matter when you are relieved from all responsibilities of the load..even if you are laden Or loaded.. example.. you get to your destination to unload and discover it’s after hours and you cannot drop the load.. you only have 10minutes left on your driving period.. There’s a safe truck stop or rest area 15 miles back up the road..since it’s in your best interest and not having anything to do with your load, the shipper or the receiving company or your company you can legally log off duty, and return to that safe haven..I always made a note on my logbook or e log.. stating the section of the fmcsa just to make sure !! But it is legal!!
Also can you use your pickup for Normal everyday driving ? I am going to do transporting as a semi retirement job and use my truck for normal transportation
No not all. If you want to tow over 26,000 you have to run an ELD. I know if you are ELD you can’t. If you’re not ELD I’m not positive but I think you could.
Hmmm, the Horizon manual says no driving between dusk and dawn because of the critters. Deer whistles required. Has the policy or the manual changed? I read it online. Nighttime would be good for the stated reasons.
Awesome, found it, thank you I’ll be emailing when I get a few minutes. Hope to see you in yard or on road sometime as I’m starting with horizon next Tuesday
I’ve applied for and been accepted with a couple rv tow-alway companies. What kind of tires are you using on your Ford dually? Mine absolutely suck on even just wet roads. I’d like to be safer on even a bit of snow. Your reply would be greatly appreciated!
Looking to apply, I know you gave your driver # out on one of the videos for referrals but I can't find it now. I'm happy to put you down if I can get your driver number again... Thanks and take care!
Hey dude your doing a great job. I have a question for you. I have a Ram 3500 it has three hundred thousands miles on it. The question is do you think it will last me to start off and see if i like it? I appreciate you comment. Be careful on the road.
What about horizon flatbed? More money with back hauls. Also watch the California 1099 law next yr. see if it affects us. Then towaway will open up with backhauls.
Wanted to ask a question based on a rumor I read. They stated that drivers are not allowed to sleep in their truck? If this is true, where do you sleep?
You are not a drive away driver sir. You do tow away and that is a completely different job! Be honest with the viewers. No disrespect but I do drive away for a living.

I have absolutely 0 complaints. You aren’t by chance a part of “slow momentum” are you?
Fair Winds & Following Seas Yes I am. I’m BJ and my husband is Keith.
Are you making good money, my wife and I drive semi and are thinking about doing this..... I have class A CDL and my wife has a normal license..
M&M Trucking LLC yes making great money. My husband has a cdl and I have a chauffeur license but can’t haul over 26
what is a ELD ?
Running at night is my favorite also for the reasons you mentioned, however be mindful of 4-legged creatures are out and about.
you still liking it ?
Do you know ìf horizon is strict with window tint on our trucks?
That’s a DOT thing not horizon
Lol I’m in the busiest place ct and they still haven’t gotten back to me

Unfortunately no. Most dealers don’t accept weekend deliveries

It also gives a timeline of what months that applies
Help me get in RV plz
Great video ! Considering RV transport. I have a friend that works for Horizon KT and his wife BJ.
New to RUclips, you mentioned emailing questions but I couldn’t find an email address
It’s in the description of every video. Little drop down arrow on the right directly under the video itself

Dually trucks are bad in snow period. I’m also on 19.5” wheels. I’m on my third set of tires and done videos on each set.
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 thanks! I just got a call from my recruiter Jean at horizon, I’m scheduled for orientation on the 19th!

No! Log on duty! Still need a 10hr before heading out with next load!

@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 Thank you sir!
Does Herriot give you the DOT number or do you have to get your own authority
Do you need a cdl to haul them trailers being under 26000k
To get hired on do you need to own a truck already or do they give you time to get one?
You have to have a truck. The VIN is associated to the lease contract
Do you have to do a logbook when you’re not hauling a trailer
Yes
Do they provide you with the ELD ??
They do. If you have a CDL and are plates over 26,000 pounds
Do you feel like it is worth the risk to buy a pickup and get into camper hauling if I've been an otr trucker for 3 years already?
There’s so many variables. Send me a message on Instagram
Do you only have to run eld when over 26k? So 25,999 no eld?
No, ELD is always on. Even unloaded
It's also 26,000 & 26,001. Not 25,999.

I am looking into flatbed. Certainly have the truck for it. Just moving cautiously.
Shipshe or mo trailers. Horizon only excepts Certain trailers. Mpg will go down. But better pay and reloads. Im heading that way next yr. good luck
Wanted to ask a question based on a rumor I read. They stated that drivers are not allowed to sleep in their truck? If this is true, where do you sleep?
I think you misheard. You cannot sleep in the trailer. Pretty much everyone sleeps in their truck
What type of receiver hitch do you use?
Running with eld makes your more tired then if you ran logbooks
Did you ever think about getting direct loads. And walking away from horizon? Then you could haul for anyone. Set your own price ect...
I have thought about it........and covered it in About 8 videos
How do u get direct loads?
