@@firstsoldier4257 i am currently selling my Batis 25mm because i just got a good deal on secondhand 24mm 1.4 GM . 25mm Batis is a good lens, lightweight, compact, best for travel. No autofocus issue, f/2 is large enough.

The Tamron is super sharp and offers more framing opportunities and is in roughly the same price range as this new lens . I am not interested in the Tamron prime, at all so a comparison between the zoom and the new Sony 20 mm for IQ and ultimate value for $$ is just what I am looking for......
Definitely not a pointless comparison. I have the 24 GM and the Tamron 17-28 and as much as I love both, especially the GM, I would be interested in dumping both for the 20 1.8 because it’s both wider and smaller and lighter than the 24. The Tamron 20 is already not in the running due to the IQ.
Do you think this will make prices for other Sony lenses drop? (Waiting for the price of that 16-55mm 2.8 to go down, but of course it's APS-C so perhaps not). New to your channel and loving your style my man. Keep it up!
You're the man! I was such a noob about lens and camera's and now I have some education after watching your videos. I went and bought this 20mm instead of the G Master (used your affill link as well). Keep pumping out that great content thanks for being awesome!
I've come to appreciate your channel more and more. I know I'll get quality info with PLENTY of sample images thrown in. That's what it it's all about for me, I want to see what the lens can do! Seems like this lens really hits a sweet spot of price and performance. I would love to see Sony be way more consistent in the quality and pricing of their lenses, especially their older lenses that never get any significant price drops. This seems like a much better option than the 16-35 f4 simply because of size, price, and image quality. Wishlisted! Thanks for the video!
Wow! This lens looks amazing!!!! I've been researching Sony cameras & lenses lately. I'm warming up to their system. I want this lens for landscapes & vlogging. This will be perfect!!!!!!!!!
The 20mm F1.8 seems great, that's cool that appatently the autofocus doesn't hunt even at F1.8! 👍 But beacuse the 24mm doesn't distort the image as much I'd probably prefer that, but I guess it's about personal preferance anyway! 🙂
20f18g lens focus breathing (from the corrected Sony camera body) may be because the minimum focal length is very short, so the corrected angle of view is almost 24mm. It is a top mtf section with a slight disappointing depth expression and a slight crop, but satisfactory video shooting is possible
There was already a 24mm lens. So 20 seems quite close. It would have been better if they had done wider prime lenses like 16mm or 18mm instead of 20. But it’s okay. Hope they bring a prime lens in the range of 16mm soon.
It would be awesome if they came out with g master lens for the 50mm focal length and 35mm ik they have the Zeiss distagon versions but if they could do something like the Canon RF series of lens oh man 🤯 that would be crazy
The 50mm f1.4 Sony Zeiss is one of the best lenses in the whole e mount lineup. The only thing a GM could add is faster AF performance and a custom hold button. Optically though its an absolutely stunning lens.
I guess you are the only one to point out the G lens being sufficient for 24MP cameras, honestly that’s so true.. Maybe a picture comparison of that in one of your next videos could help a lot of a7iii users.. Not always everyone needs the latest and greatest..
When I bought the a7cii (absolute love affair), I sold my 24mm f1.4 GE & bought this lens. Awesome combo, AF is scary good, & "fun fun fun till daddy takes the T-bird away." Other Sony lenses: 40 mm f2.5 G, 50mm f1.4 & 85mm f1.8 FE. No zooms or telephoto, but 85mm goes to almost 130mm ASP-C.
I had the 24mm for about 3 was and truly loved it. I saw your video on the 20mm, shipped back the 24 and preordered the 20mm which arrived today. Can’t wait to test it out when the rain stops. I love the focal length, wide angle and light weight. Please do a comparison between the 20 & 24mm
Really struggle to choose between the 17-28 2.8 and the sony 20mm for vlog and facecam video... i want to have a nice bokeh and im scared to don’t have enough on the tamron (especially if the background is not too far)

I already have the 24GM shooting on the a7RII. I think I'll sit this one out and wait for something wider. Like you said, a 14mm 1.8 (G or GM) would get me to open my wallet.
I see similar results with the Sigma 16mm 1.4, of course the quality might be slightly inferior on that one compared with the 20mm, but do you think this new 20mm is worth it?
Would have been nice for wider shots of Yosemite this past weekend but 24 still did great. Not sure if I want to purchase the 20, maybe later in the future.
We're all chasing good glass but just wow. For our A7's, our shelves have a Zeiss-Batis 18 2.8, the vaunted 24 1.4 GM, the 24-70 GM, the 16-35 GM, Sony 85MM 1.8 and the Sony 50MM 1.8. Don't think we can justify the 20MM as there seems just a bit too much overlap in our currently available focal lengths. So we did what we had to do after watching a Jason Vong video - yep, saddled up to pre-order and then added "Jason Vong Video" as a business expense in the accounting software.
It is good to see Sony adding to their lens stable. But let us not forget the size element of the A7 series of camera’s. If you wish to keep the quality but prioritise compact size in the Sony system then look to Voigtlander. Their 21mm does all that is required but is manual focus. With such DoF do you need AF? You pay a lot for f1.8 over f3.5. What aperture do you normally shoot at?
I would like to see Sony bring a 20mm tilt shift lens. Currently there is only one option and that is a 24mm Samyang which is in my opnion not wide enough for architecture and real estate...
