      That would be common-sense gun-control reform I could support. Even if it requires negotiated compromise (such as removing SBS & SBR but leaving auto for now) - just asking for minor common-sense first steps. These are problems we can resolve.

    Personally, I dont want Law Enforcement to show up until I as the person who is engaged with the suspect makes that decision. I dont need them showing up as im clearing my house only to have them make entry and possibly get shot. Also, unless you are in apartment no one is going to hear a single shot. If you start getting into a gunfight that will wake them up but at that point, the only thing the police can do is help with the clean-up. Finally, you are damaging a critical sense that can/will help in the future to detect threats. I keep a set of Peltors on my patrol rifle around the barrel and can throw them on when I grab the rifle.

    • @Python_John
      @Python_John 2 года назад +3

      the cops usually dont have the response time to show up that quick even when shots are fired in self defense there are plenty of cases where it took them 15-30 minutes to show up to a home invasion where the intruder was shot, second from a tactical perspective its smarter to have a plan with your family to hold up in one spot in the house with a firearm and wait for police to show up instead of trying to clear the house by yourself that just puts you at a disadvantage thirdly you may not have the time to grab your rifle with your peltors or it may be in another room entirely. everyone has this grandious plan on how they will defend there house truth of the matter is its all bullshit and will most likely fall apart your not gonna be able to throw a whole rig on most cases your gonna get caught with your pants around your ankles if you understand what i mean as john has said in his videos before its not all bout having a plan for when stuff goes down its being prepared and having your tools on you for when shit goes down those are two very different things

    If your looking into a suppressor for home defense the #1 factor you should be looking for is one that is as light as possible. Especially for using with a ar 15 you do not want a heavy can. Get as close to 10 ounces as you can and you'll thank me.

    • @ToastbackWhale
      @ToastbackWhale 2 года назад +1

      If you’re holding the rifle long enough for weight to be an issue in an HD scenario you’re probably porked anyway, no? I can see length being a primary factor, and especially noise reduction, though.

    • @finngamesknudson1457
      @finngamesknudson1457 2 года назад

      @@ToastbackWhale - Weight and length conspire to impact “quickness” with firearm. For those of us who don’t exercise enough, fatigue can set in quick - I know my pistol was getting very heavy by end of the last class I took.
      If you capture home invader/burglar without shooting them, you’ve pretty much got a best case outcome. Given police response times in many places - holding them at gunpoint could make an AR grow rather heavy.

    Putting restrictions on suppressors is like restricting seat belts, bike helmets, and balcony guardrails - it's absurd. In Poland (like most of the world, they are unregulated and I can buy a decent 9mm pistol suppressor or AR 223 suppressor for about US$200 - the cost of the tax stamp back home in the US.
    The default for every firearm should be 'with a suppressor,' and then remove it/don't have it when it's impractical (e.g. carrying concealed, blackpowder/muzzleloading). Most hunting, target shooting, plinking, and competition would be far better for everyone with suppressors.

    I think my lone argument is in a self defense shooting with a can on,not only do you lose said firearm,you lose an extra thousand plus with the can an no telling if or when you see it back.Then whats the ramifications if you never see that back?is that gonna deny every form 4 after?

    • @ASPextra

    • @finngamesknudson1457
      @finngamesknudson1457 2 года назад

      Only reason this would result in denial of future form fours is if it was a bad shoot - as in you are now a convicted felon and can no longer possess guns on which to mount the suppressors you also not allowed to possess.
      That’s on you. Watch more of this channel and several others, spend time thinking through scenarios and ramifications of possible responses until you are confident you will be able to properly protect for follow up fight (legal). Also get legal coverage, it is very cheap compared to risks you bear.
      As for losing gear into “evidence”, those cost less than first day with your lawyer. I was happy with how my Subaru performed in rollover, ‘she’ gave her life protecting me and while I did not like losing my car, she’d done her job.

    Love your videos, and well thought out options. However I think the advantages of NOT having a suppressor on a home defense gun outweigh the advantages.
    While a suppressor will certainly help with hearing protection and possible concussive TBI, a suppressor will make the gun more unwieldy, less maneuverable, and remove the advantage of the psychological effect of shots fired on the bad guy.
    SAMHIT (Small Arms Mediated Human Incapacitation Theory) holds that there are only 3 ways that a human is immediately incapacitated: a CNS hit, debilitating pain, and lastly psychological incapacitation.
    Immediate incapacitation is the main thing we look for in a shooting - as you know, having the bad guy shot, and then able to still act for several seconds or minutes is not optimum.
    So for Immediate Incapacitation, a CNS shot is obviously preferred. But as you know, CNS shots maybe only occur maybe less than 5-10% of shootings.
    Debilitating pain is possible, but unreliable and unpredictable. In addition, cannot be “designed” into a bullet.
    This leaves psychological incapacitation as the main reason for immediate incapacitation. The majority of humans that are immediately incapacitated by a gunshot are due to psychological reasons.
    Fortunately, we can increase the psychological impact of gunshots. Primarily, the ways to do this are by: the loud sound of gunfire, the perceived impact of the shot, and the visible flash of the shot.
    So actually, the better way to defend in a home situation would be to increase the sound, heighten the flash, and increase concussive blast.
    This is obviously for a civilian, defense situation, as a military application would have different requirements.

    • @finngamesknudson1457
      @finngamesknudson1457 2 года назад +1

      So perhaps a flash can, throwing more sound and flash forward, since presumably you will be pointing roughly at them. To extent they reduce blast at your ears, that helps too.

    I wish I had a QD type suppressor for my G19. The only reasons why I don't put a suppressor on it at night is that I am worried about damaging the M13.5x1LH thread on my barrel with repeated attachment/detachment and I don't want molly grease on my pillows. At this stage I only have a EDC gun as firearm licencing is a slow and painful process however suppressors are completely unregulated as it should be for safety equipment.
    I do carry suppressed when riding out in the bush if I suspect feral/poaching hunting dogs are around as we have had attacks before. Having a horse flip over and land on you from a dog attack is just as likely as firing unsuppressed from the saddle.

    • @mr.browning7.624
      @mr.browning7.624 2 года назад +1

      I've actually seen instances where supressors improve accuracy at long range. I think the basic science behind it has something to do with the gases being expelled from the rifle when it fires, doesn't make much difference at shorter distances but at extreme ranges can improve groupings.

  • @foxtrotunit1269
    @foxtrotunit1269 2 года назад

    2:30 Yes agreed. But the *bigger* reason, why silencer's need to be un-regulated, is *oil filters* achieve the same effect.
    On .22LRs they last almost forever and silence VERY well compared to regulars (what they lack in baffles they make up in volume).
    On 5,56 or 7,62x39 they still last a mag or two, and have decent suppression.
    John, I recommend in your next class bring an oil filter and pretend attaching it on a gun, to make the NFA point + it is optional to simulate the act of attachment like one would insinuate the act of coitus using his two hands👌👈 for extra comedic effect, teasing to the students you're "on the edge" of breaking the law😏 but not quite (with a cheesy grin it might be hilarious, or result in you immediate arrest - only one way to find out. Don't worry, tell them you're a pastor and they'll prob let you go🙏)
